Irony S Edge written by Linda Hutcheon and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2003-09-02 with Literary Criticism categories.

The edge of irony, says Linda Hutcheon, is always a social and political edge. Irony depends upon interpretation; it happens in the tricky, unpredictable space between expression and understanding. Irony's Edge is a fascinating, compulsively readable study of the myriad forms and the effects of irony. It sets out, for the first time, a sustained, clear analysis of the theory and the political contexts of irony, using a wide range of references from contemporary culture. Examples extend from Madonna to Wagner, from a clever quip in conversation to a contentious exhibition in a museum. Irony's Edge outlines and then challenges all the major existing theories of irony, providing the most comprehensive and critically challengin theory of irony to date.

Field Theories Of Condensed Matter Physics written by Eduardo Fradkin and has been published by Cambridge University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-02-28 with Science categories.

Presenting the physics of the most challenging problems in condensed matter using the conceptual framework of quantum field theory, this book is of great interest to physicists in condensed matter and high energy and string theorists, as well as mathematicians. Revised and updated, this second edition features new chapters on the renormalization group, the Luttinger liquid, gauge theory, topological fluids, topological insulators and quantum entanglement. The book begins with the basic concepts and tools, developing them gradually to bring readers to the issues currently faced at the frontiers of research, such as topological phases of matter, quantum and classical critical phenomena, quantum Hall effects and superconductors. Other topics covered include one-dimensional strongly correlated systems, quantum ordered and disordered phases, topological structures in condensed matter and in field theory and fractional statistics.

For decades, multinational corporations benefited from developing countries mainly as a source of cheap labour and weak regulations. Even when corporate social responsibility (CSR) was embraced it has been tailored to customers in the developed world. With the rise of the middle class in emerging economies and social media driven scrutiny of corporate conduct around the globe, CSR increasingly requires an international outlook. Adopting strategic CSR in international business provides multinational corporations with a competitive edge. An emerging field of research around international CSR points to global, local and transnational strategies as viable options. Considering impacting variables such as cultural distance, industry features and brand visibility, recommendations are derived for managers that advance the concept of shared value for business and society. In addition, a set of future research questions is outlined to further the academic discussion around this important aspect of business in the 21th century.

Critical Race Theory written by Richard Delgado and has been published by Temple University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2000 with Law categories.

This tightly edited volume contains the finest, highly accessible articles in the fast-growing legal genre of critical race theory--a field which is changing the way this nation looks at race, challenging orthodoxy, questioning the premises of liberalism, and debating sacred wisdoms. Including treatments of two new, exciting topics--Critical Race Feminism and Critical White Studies--this volume is truly on "the cutting edge." Questions for discussion and reading suggestions after each part make this volume essential for those interested in law, the multiculturalism movement, political science, and critical thought. In this wide-ranging second edition, Richard Delgado and Jean Stefancic bring together the finest, most illustrative, and highly accessible articles in the fast-growing legal genre of Critical Race Theory. In challenging orthodoxy, questioning the premises of liberalism, and debating sacred wisdoms, Critical Race Theory scholars writing over the past few years have indelibly changed the way America looks at race. This edition contains treatment of all the topics covered in the first edition, along with provocative and probing questions for discussion and detailed suggestions for additional reading, all of which set this fine volume apart from the field. In addition, this edition contains five new substantive units--crime, critical race practice, intergroup tensions and alliances, gay/lesbian issues, and transcending the black-white binary paradigm of race. In each of these areas, groundbreaking scholarship by the movement's founding figures as well as the brightest new stars provides immediate entry to current trends and developments in critical civil rights thought. Author note: Richard Delgado, Jean Lindsley Professor of Law at the University of Colorado at Boulder, is one of the founding members of the Conference on Critical Race Theory. Winner of the Association of American Law Schools' 1995 Clyde Ferguson Award for outstanding law professor of color, he is the author of over 100 articles in the law review literature on civil rights and of several books, including Failed Revolutions, Words that Wound, and The Rodrigo Chronicles. Jean Stefancic, Research Associate in Law at the University of Colorado, is the author of leading articles and books on Critical Race Theory, Latino/a scholarship, and social change, including No Mercy: How Conservative Think Tanks and Foundations Changed America's Social Agenda (Temple).

A Semiempirical Method For Predicting Aerodynamics Of Trailing Edge Flaps written by Frankie Gale Moore and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2001 with Aerodynamics categories.

An improved semiempirical method has been developed to estimate the static aerodynamics of configurations that use a trailing edge flap for control. The method is based on deflecting the full aft-located lifting surface an amount that allows the normal force coefficient to be equal to that generated by the deflected flap. A transfer in pitching moments and a modified axial force coefficient is arrived to complete the set of static aerodynamics . The method to give satisfactory results over the practical range that trailing edge flaps are contemplated for use. However, additional wind tunnel data is needed to refine and expand the applicability of the method. This is particularly true for transonic Mach numbers and for supersonic Mach numbers where the angle of attack and control deflection are of the same.

The book comprises of different areas in which vortex dynamics is important, its generation, evolution, interactions with other motions, and finally the ways it can be controlled. Vortex characteristics are important in many aspects of our lives, from blood circulation in the arteries to the high-speed jet. Flow control and manipulation of vortices have been used to reduce drag for large tankers resulting in billions of dollars in savings. An effective smoke management system must be put in place for critical areas to ensure the safety of people, for example in a very large shopping complex or a large airport. Advanced computational and cloud-computing facilities have contributed significantly to large-scale simulation projects. Therefore, validations could be performed for larger windows of study so that it can now cover the entire e.g. central business district (CBD) for urban heat island (UHI) study or land-ocean interactions.

What Newton′s Principia was to his natural science colleagues, Russ Marion′s The Edge of Organization is to today′s social scientists. This book clearly elucidates the arrival of the social sciences at the end of the alley of modernism but then presents us with the tools and ideas to climb out of a dead end, rise above old limitations, and take flight for new horizons bright with promise for advancing both theory and praxis. . . . For social scientists, it is both the most relevant and most easily apprehended treatment to date of the totality of chaos and complexity theory and technique. --Raymond A. Eve, Editor, Chaos, Complexity, and Sociology The Edge of Organization offers a readable, comprehensive, and integrated overview of the new sciences of chaos and complexity. Author Russ Marion describes formal and social organizations from the perspective of chaos and complexity theories. His multidisciplinary approach will appeal to students and scholars across a wide range of social sciences. This book is generously illustrated and includes comprehensive references plus an annotated bibliography of useful books and articles. The Edge of Organization will appeal to students and professionals in sociology, management/ organization studies, management studies, marketing, political science, public administration, and psychology.
