This book addresses the urgent need for a large and systematic analysis of current interdisciplinary (ID) research and practice. It demonstrates how ID is essentially a cognitive phenomenon, something different from the frivolous and inconsequential attempt of trying to overcome the disciplinary competencies and exigencies. By ID, the authors show that it is a manifestation of the transversal rationality that underlies current scientific activity. It is the very progress of specialized disciplines that requires interdisciplinary new research practices and new forms of articulation between domains, something that has a strong impact on the traditional disciplinary structure of scientific and educational institutions. Divided into two parts, the book presents a conceptual framework as well as several case studies on ID practices. The book aims at covering three main themes. It contributes to the stabilization of ID meaning and characterizes the main ID theorizations which have been proposed until now. It builds an innovative and broad understanding of the several ID determinations as an essentially cognitive phenomenon and of its institutional implications at the level of disciplinary structures and curricular organization. Finally, it distinguishes and maps the diversity of ID procedures and practices which are being used and tested by contemporary scientific and educational institutions. This book is addressed to philosophers, scientists and every one interested in science production and reproduction, including science teaching.

How can exhibitions not only stage existing knowledge, but also raise questions that lead to new research? This question has become ever more relevant due to the museum sector's growing interest in the development of thematic exhibitions that combine narratives and objects from art, science, cultural history, and everyday life. Using theories from interdisciplinarity studies, Henriette Pleiger identifies different ways of producing knowledge during the exhibition-making process, as well as the mechanisms that are necessary for an exhibition to be considered interdisciplinary. The development of such exhibitions can be understood as collaborative research processes.

Social Ecological Transformation written by Karl Bruckmeier and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016-06-03 with Science categories.

This book advances a social-ecological theory to reconnect nature and society through sustainable transformation of interacting social and ecological systems. Social ecology develops as an interdisciplinary science by using knowledge from the social sciences, especially sociology and economics, and from natural-scientific ecology. Knowledge integration across the boundaries of social and natural sciences is not widespread, blocked by the specialisation of theories and their competing forms of explanation and interpretation. Chapters in this book describe a new social-ecological theory that connects concepts and theories from both sides to create a new interdisciplinary theory. Inter- and transdisciplinary knowledge synthesis creates possibilities to analyse global environmental problems more systematically by integrating specialized research on environmental problems. The author uses social-ecological theory to analyse and explain problems and processes of global change in modern society such as climate change and adaptation to it, ecosystem change, and transformation of the industrial energy regime , finally offering pathways of transformation to a future sustainable society.

Determining the Ethical Codes of Artificial Intelligence-Assisted Informed Consent tackles a pivotal issue: Can artificial intelligence (AI) ethically secure informed consent, and what codes should guide its integration into healthcare? This illuminating book probes the fusion of AI with the bedrock of medical ethics—patient autonomy. As AI transforms diagnostics, treatments, and decision-making, it disrupts traditional consent processes, sparking critical questions about trust, equity, and human agency. This work boldly examines whether machines can responsibly handle the nuanced act of consent and outlines the ethical scaffolding needed to ensure they do. Setting itself apart from broader AI ethics debates, this book hones in on the specifics of AI-assisted consent. It journeys through the history of informed consent, uncovers algorithmic biases that threaten fairness, and crafts precise ethical codes to govern AI’s role in medicine. Drawing on real-world research and case studies, it balances the promise of AI-enhanced care with its ethical pitfalls, offering a clear-eyed look at transparency, accountability, and patient empowerment. More than a critique, it provides a practical blueprint for ethical standards that safeguard human values in an AI-driven era.

The Routledge Handbook Of Contemporary Inequalities And The Life Course written by Magda Nico and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021-12-31 with Social Science categories.

Drawing upon perspectives from across the globe and employing an interdisciplinary life course approach, this handbook explores the production and reproduction of different types of inequality across a variety of social contexts. Inequalities are not static, easily measurable, and essentially quantifiable circumstances of life. They are processes which impact on individuals throughout the life course, interacting with each other, accumulating, attenuating, reproducing, or distorting themselves along the way. The chapters in this handbook examine various types of inequality, such as economic, gender, racial, and ethnic inequalities, and analyse how these inequalities manifest themselves within different aspects of society, including health, education, and the family, at multiple levels and dimensions. The handbook also tackles the global COVID-19 pandemic and its striking impact on the production and intensification of inequalities. The interdisciplinary life course approach utilised in this handbook combines quantitative and qualitative methods to bridge the gap between theory and practice and offer strategies and principles for identifying and tackling issues of inequality. This book will be indispensable for students and researchers as well as activists and policy makers interested in understanding and eradicating the processes of production, reproduction, and perpetuation of inequalities.
