Linus Pauling wrote a stellar series of over 800 scientific papers spanning an amazing range of fields, some of which he himself initiated. This book is a selection of the most important of his writings in the fields of quantum mechanics, chemical bonding (covalent, ionic, metallic, and hydrogen bonding), molecular rotation and entropy, protein structure, hemoglobin, molecular disease, molecular evolution, the antibody mechanism, the molecular basis of anesthesia, orthomolecular medicine, radiation chemistry/biology, and nuclear structure. Through these papers the reader gets a fresh, unfiltered view of the genius of Pauling's many contributions to chemistry, chemical physics, molecular biology, and molecular medicine.

Chemical Graph Theory written by D Bonchev and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2018-05-11 with Science categories.
This volume presents the fundamentals of graph theory and then goes on to discuss specific chemical applications. Chapter 1 provides a historical setting for the current upsurge of interest in chemical graph theory. Chapter 2 gives a full background of the basic ideas and mathematical formalism of graph theory and includes such chemically relevant notions as connectedness, graph matrix representations, metric properties, symmetry and operations on graphs. This is followed by a discussion on chemical nomenclature and the trends in its rationalization by using graph theory, which has important implications for the storage and retrieval of chemical information. This volume also contains a detailed discussion of the relevance of graph-theoretical polynomials; it describes methodologies for the enumeration of isomers, incorporating the classical Polya method, as well as more recent approaches.

Divided into five major parts, the two volumes of this ready reference cover the tailoring of theoretical methods for biochemical computations, as well as the many kinds of biomolecules, reaction and transition state elucidation, conformational flexibility determination, and drug design. Throughout, the chapters gradually build up from introductory level to comprehensive reviews of the latest research, and include all important compound classes, such as DNA, RNA, enzymes, vitamins, and heterocyclic compounds. The result is in-depth and vital knowledge for both readers already working in the field as well as those entering it. Includes contributions by Prof. Ada Yonath (Nobel Prize in Chemistry 2009) and Prof. Jerome Karle (Nobel Prize in Chemistry 1985).

Changing Landscapes Of Nuclear Physics written by Klaus Fischer and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012-12-06 with Science categories.
Nuclear physics between 1921 and 1947 shaped more than any other science thepolitical landscape of our century and the public opinion on physical research. Using quantitative scientometric methods, a new branch in the history of science, the author focuses on the developments of nuclear physics in these formative years paying special attention to theimpact of German emigrants on the evolution of the field as a cognitive and social unity. The book is based on a thorough analysis of various citation analyses thus producing results that should be more replicable and more objective. The scientometric techniques should complement the more qualitative approach usually applied in historical writing. This makes the text an interesting study also for the historian in general.

Excerpt from The Theory of Valency IT seems rather remarkable that no treatise Should be extant in our own language on such an important subject as valency. Nor is the German literature in a much better position, for it contains but one monograph on the subject, written by Dr. F. Willy Hinrichsen in 1902. This, though excellent, can scarcely be regarded as exhaustive. Moreover, during the past six years much new material has been collected, and calls for rearrangement and discussion. Perhaps this lack of systematic treatment of the subject is to be ascribed to the difficulty of reconciling any theory of valency with the facts of inorganic chemistry. But the remarkable success which has attended our application of the theory to the study of organic chemistry may be regarded as a guarantee that we are on the right track, and should serve to stimulate us, rather than otherwise, in our attempts to perfect our theory. It has been my endeavour in the present volume to present to the reader a concise account of the more important theories of chemical combination, which have exercised the minds of scientific men down to the present day.
