This book provides therapists with an understanding of displacement-related issues to help them better serve potential clients such as emigrants, expats, migrants, digital nomads – all those who have left their original home country behind and moved to a different culture and place. With the spread of communication technologies, psychotherapists are expanding their practice to the online setting and into the unfamiliar waters of transcultural counselling with highly mobile and displaced individuals. Building on her research, the author brings up new concepts in therapy practice with emigrants, calling for a displacement-focused, transcultural approach for a modern psychotherapy practice, blended or online, in a world shaped by ubiquitous displacement. Giré’s own experience of relocations and multicultural families have helped her develop a personal approach to universal topics of the therapeutic endeavour, such as displacement, multilingualism, and shame. Meeting displaced individuals’ mental health needs is a priority for the mental health community. Therapy with Displaced and Highly Mobile Individuals will be of interest to all therapists working online with this client group, and for all those interested in psychotherapy (therapists or not), who want to learn about the psychological issues created by displacement.

Emotions And The Therapist written by Paolo Bertrando and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2018-05-08 with Psychology categories.

In recent years, systemic theory and practice adopted a dialogical orientation, centred on the persons of the therapist and client. This has led to a growing attention toward emotions, which, in this book, is developed in terms of emotional systems. An emotional system in therapy may be viewed as the sum of the emotions existing and interacting in people's lives. Relevant changes in life happen when emotional stances and sequences change within the system, leading, for example, to a greater sense of agency or hope, or to a different perception of the situation. This book looks at emotions within human systems in terms of dominant and silent emotions, which shape and are shaped by human relationships, and may be played in several ways according to reciprocal emotional positioning. The therapist uses his or her own feeling, and understanding of the emotions within the therapeutic dialogue, in order to create hypotheses and new dialogues which allow change.

Unlocked tells the stories of ten different people in therapy in various cultural and geographical contexts - from Saudi Arabia to Venice or New York. Each narrative explores a unique presenting situation and uncovers the complexities of the therapeutic experience. All therapeutic work described in this book happens online. Inspired by real client sessions, the therapist narrator and the clients' stories are fictionalized for privacy. Rather than presenting a barrier, Unlocked demonstrates how a curious and skilled therapist can make the most of the unexpected gifts that the 'screen' offers--be it the intrusion of a pet, a parent breaking into the session, or a client taking her therapist for a ride outside. Therapeutic conversations that happen on the screen have a surprising close-up quality; these stories convey the renewed intimacy and intensity of such practice and present new possibilities for the therapeutic process. They will be of interest not only to therapists who are transitioning their practice online but also to those considering therapy or curious about the therapeutic process.
