This volume is part of a comprehensive review of the thermal radiative properties of air by the Lockheed Palo Alto Research Laboratory for the Defense Atomic Support Agency. The review was published as DASA 1917 (Unclassified) in four parts, April, 1967. Most of this material is now being offered in new editions by Plenum Press. The authors and editors hope that it will be more widely available to scientists and engineers who work in the various fields which require the use of high temperature air properties. F. R. Gilmore and A. Hochstim have revised and increased the material presented in DASA 1917-1 in "Equilibrium Thermodynamic Properties of Air" . The present editors have prepared an introduction for the tables presented in DASA 1917-3 so that "Tables of Radiative Properties of Air" offered herewith is essentially self-contained. A few more figures have been added and a number of errors have been corrected. We have also prepared a slightly revised edition of DASA 1917-4, "Excitation and Non-E"quilibrium Phenomena inAir," offered by Plenum Press at this time as a companion volume. DASA 1917-2, "The Radiative Properties of Heated Air" by B. H. Armstrong and R. W. Nicholls is not being offered in a new edition at this time.

In the spring of 1906, Nobel laureate H.A. Lorentz gave a famous series of lectures at Columbia University. Gathered in one volume and published as The Theory of Electrons in 1909, these talks are still widely read and admired today, more than 100 years later. This collection includes lectures on: . the theory of free electrons . the emission and absorption of heat . the theory of the Zeeman-effect . the propagation of light in a body composed of molecules . the theory of the inverse Zeeman-effect . the optical phenomena in moving bodies Extensive notes, complete with mathematical equations, complement the text, and an extensive index will aid the reader. Dutch physicist HENDRIK ANTOON LORENTZ (1853-1928) shared the Nobel Prize in physics with Pieter Zeeman in 1902. His publications include The Einstein Theory of Relativity: A Concise Statement (1920), Lectures on Theoretical Physics (1927), and Problems of Modern Physics (1927).

Excerpt from The Theory of Electrons and Its Applications to the Phenomena of Light and Radiant Heat: A Course of Lectures Delivered in Columbia University, New York, in March and April 1906 The publication of these lectures, which I delivered in Columbia University in the spring of 1906, has been unduly delayed, chiefly on account of my wish to give some further development to the subject, so as to present it in a connected and fairly complete form; for this reason I have not refrained from making numerous additions. Nevertheless there are several highly interesting questions, more or less belonging to the theory of electrons, which I could but slightly touch upon. I could no more than allude in a note to Voigt's Treatise on magneto-optical phenomena, and neither Planck's views on radiation, nor Einstein's principle of relativity have received an adequate treatment. In one other respect this book will, I fear, be found very deficient. No space could be spared for a discussion of the different ways in which the fundamental principles may be established, so that, for instance, there was no opportunity to mention the important share that has been taken in the development of the theory by Larmor and Wiechert. It is with great pleasure that I express my thanks to Professor A. P. Wills for his kindness in reading part of the proofs, and to the publisher for the care he has bestowed on my work. The primary objective of the book is to provide basic idea on fluid dynamics and its related properties and help to understand research work in the field of transport phenomena in MHD flow. The fluid model describing various aspects of boundary layer flow past a vertical flat surface embedded in Darcian porous media have been studied. An asymptotic periodic transformation is used to solve the dynamical equations. The influence of several physical effects like thermal radiation, chemical reaction, magnetic field, radiation absorption, heat sink etc. have been considered on various fluid properties. In this study some significant engineering properties of interest such as skin-friction, Nusselt number and Sherwood number are also calculated and analyzed through graphs and tables. It is expected that, the governed exact closed form of solutions corresponding to different problems can be used for validating numerical treatment of certain critical flows with heat and mass transfer phenomena.

Excerpt from The Theory of Heat Radiation The present volume is a translation of the second edition of Professor Planck's Waermestrahlung (1913).The profoundly original ideas introduced by Planck in the endeavor to reconcile the electromagnetic theory of radiation with experimental facts have proven to be of the greatest importance in many parts of physics. Probably no single book since the appearance of Clerk Maxwell's Electricity And Magnetism has had a deeper influence on the development of physical theories. The great majority of English-speaking physicists are, of course, able to read the work in the language in which it was written, but I believe that many will welcome the opportunity offered by a translation to study the ideas set forth by Planck without the difficulties that frequently arise in attempting to follow a new and somewhat difficult line of reasoning in a foreign language. Recent developments of physical theories have placed the quantum of action in the foreground of interest. Questions regarding the bearing of the quantum theory on the law of equipartition of energy, its application to the theory of specific heats and to photoelectric effects, attempts to form some concrete idea of the physical significance of the quantum, that is, to devise a "model" for it, have created within the last few years a large and ever increasing literature. Professor Planck has, however, in this book confined himself exclusively to radiation phenomena and it has seemed to me probable that a brief resume of this literature might prove useful to the reader who wishes to pursue the subject further. I have, therefore, with Professor Planck's permission, given in an appendix a list of the most important papers on the subjects treated of in this book and others closely related to them. I have also added a short note on one or two derivations of formulæ where the treatment in the book seemed too brief or to present some difficulties.
