Set in 22nd century Britain 'This Green Earth' tells the story of the survivors of a series of world shattering events, how they struggle for survival to find normality and try to rebuild a community. Then against all the odds love is found. 'Tess goes about her daily duties on the farm under the constant threat of the marauders lurking in the woods.' "As he rotated, his puffy white face flashed at her, he wasn't that dissimilar in looks from her late husband and the thought of it made her start crying, ironically in the grass there was a gathering of light blue Forget-me-nots." The man began to roll on his own, his arms flinging out wildly, his legs flailing against the ground and each other, until in a ragged heap he hit the bottom of the ditch where the others lay. Now there were four of them and when she had got the other two, she would cover them over, it was only decent, it was only proper, it was only hygienic.

The Creator has called us to care for life, his creation. Unfortunately, many evangelical Christians have decided that value has too much political baggage attached to it and has forsaken caring for God's creation. In this book, pastor and author Tri Robinson clearly shows the biblical mandate for environmental stewardship?and how doing so will change the world around us. Through biblical examples, everyday stories, and practical know-how Robinson delivers a powerful message that cannot be ignored. His insights into how to move people from the idea of stewarding God's creation to actually participating will clearly show leaders in the evangelical Christian community how to raise this value.

Sylvia Engdahl became fascinated by the idea of space travel in 1946, and has believed since the early 1950s that expansion of our species to other worlds is vital to the preservation of Earth and the future survival of humankind. Many of the essays in this book express her conviction that we should not be discouraged by the public's reluctance to support space activity, since all past human progress has been brought about by visionaries who did not have the backing of their contemporaries. The shock of realizing during the moon landings that contact with the vast and perhaps peril-fraught universe is no longer mere fiction dampened the enthusiasm of the majority, but this was a natural reaction comparable seventeenth century people's resistance to the idea that Earth is not, as formerly thought, safely enclosed within crystal spheres that hold up the celestial bodies. It will pass, and we need have no doubt that generations who come after us will venture forth from this green Earth and find their way to the stars. The following essays are included. The Once and Future Dream Thoughts on the 50th Anniversary of the First Moon Landing Breaking Out from Earth's Shell Why Does the History of Outlook Toward Space Matter? Confronting the Universe in the Twenty-First Century Space and Human Survival The Only Sensible Way to Deal with Climate Change Update on the Critical Stage: The Far Side of Evil's Relevance Today Space Colonization, Faith, and Pascal's Wager Why There Will Never Be an Interplanetary War Humankind's Future in the CosmosThe Once and Future Dream (new) Thoughts on the 50th Anniversary of the First Moon Landing Breaking Out from Earth's Shell Why Does the History of Outlook Toward Space Matter? Part travelogue, part hymn of praise, and part environmental primer, The Green Earth Challenge will change the way you view the planet, your faith, and your role as a steward of God's creation. Winnie Williams has been fortunate to see many of the world's natural wonders and offers a passionate, biblically-based argument for protecting and preserving our natural resources. She also describes our worldwide energy challenges and offers practical advice for reevaluating our personal, national, and global behavior. Reading The Green Earth Challenge will awaken your gratitude for nature's miracles and inspire your resolve to preserve them for future generations. "Winnie Williams makes "environmentalism" accessible to ordinary mortals. As a Christian, she sounds a seldom-heard moral and ethical note. As one of the best kinds of Baptists, she laces the text with biblical references, leaving personal interpretation to the reader. Seldom have I seen such good stewardship of rich experiences from world travels. It is not just name-dropping of places she has been but careful management of lessons learned and fresh perspectives appropriated. We can all learn from Winnie's stewardship of life's blessings." James M. Dunn Professor of Christianity and Public Policy Divinity School at Wake Forest University "Winnie Williams challenges us to take seriously our stewardship of God's good earth. Combining theological insights, current studies, and personal experience . . . she makes a significant contribution in calling us to live out our faith regarding our environment." Todd Wilson Retired minister of First Baptist Church, Clemson, South Carolina Winnie V. Williams is a retiredassociate professor from Southern Wesleyan University, Central, South Carolina. She received her undergraduate degree from Mississippi College and Master's degrees from New Orleans Theological Seminary and Clemson University.

Much has been said about the positive effect of the photos of Earth obtained by Apollo 8, which for the first time showed our planet as a globe, a fragile refuge amid barren surroundings, and thereby launched the environmental movement. The negative impact--the subconscious apprehension resulting from realization that space is an actual place containing little that's familiar to us and perhaps much that we'd rather not meet--is not spoken of. But it may be no less significant. Could this be one of the reasons why widespread interest in space died so soon after the first moon landing? For the past fifty years space advocates have been puzzled and frustrated by the slowness of progress in space and the failure of the public to grasp its importance not only to the future of humankind, but to the preservation of Earth's environment. But is it really cause for discouragement? In this book Sylvia Engdahl argues that in the light of history, it's not surprising that acceptance of a new outlook on the universe is slow. All past human advances have been made by visionary minorities without the support of their contemporaries, and our transformation into a spacefaring species will be no exception. This book also includes all of Engdahl's earlier essays about space, such as "Space and Human Survival," which has been popular on the Web for nearly twenty years, plus new ones about the priority of Mars and the question of whether we'll ever meet hostile aliens. In addition, an Epilogue contains the quotations from her Web page "Space Quotes to Ponder" about why a presence in space is vital to humankind. X-Ray is enabled and includes biographical information about all the quotation authors as well as the people mentioned in the essays.
