On 16 June 2004, the international community celebrated the centenary of 'Bloomsday'. The epicentre of events was Dublin where the Australian artist, Robert Jacks, had been invited to exhibit his paintings at 15 Usher's Island, once the home of James Joyce's aunts and the building in which Joyce located THE DEAD, the final story of his Dubliners. This limited standard edition of 400 copies, each with a bookplate signed by the artist, uses colour and abstract shapes to symbolise the passing of one day, from morning to night. The day is 16 June 1904, when Stephen Dedalus and Leopold Bloom junketed through Dublin and their adventures were recorded, for posterity, in Joyce's ULYSSES.

The author invites you to take a stroll with him through his beloved Alps, where myths and folk customs still sing of the people who lived there in antiquity, the Celts. Walk with the author along the narrow ridge between history and otherworld, which we encounter behind many a jagged rock, in a deep forest, or dark cave. We will meet giants there, mystical ladies, and the Kasermandl; and all have fascinating stories to tell. Learn what the Alpine people of old thought about Vervain and how ancient magical spells connected folks on continent with their brethren on the British Isles. And finally, you can go with Christian Brunner on a shamanic journey to Mutter Perchtl and thus participate in the remembrance of the Great Goddess.

This fascinating book uncovers the history behind urban legends and explains how the contemporary iterations of familiar fictional tales provide a window into the modern concerns—and digital advancements—of our society. What do ghost hunting, legend tripping, and legendary monsters have in common with email hoaxes, chain letters, and horror movies? In this follow-up to Libraries Unlimited's Tales, Rumors, and Gossip: Exploring Contemporary Folk Literature in Grades 7–12, author Gail de Vos revisits popular urban legends, and examines the impact of media—online, social, and broadcast—on their current iterations. What Happens Next? Contemporary Urban Legends and Popular Culture traces the evolution of contemporary legends from the tradition of oral storytelling to the sharing of stories on the Internet and TV. The author examines if the popularity of contemporary legends in the media has changed the form, role, and integrity of familiar legends. In addition to revisiting some of the legends highlighted in her first book, de Vos shares new tales in circulation which she sees as a direct result of technological advancements.

German Narratives Of Belonging written by Linda Shortt and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017-07-05 with Foreign Language Study categories.

Since unification, German culture has experienced a boom in discourses on generation, family and place. Linda Shortt reads this as symptomatic of a wider quest for belonging that mobilises attachment to counter the effects of post-modern deterritorialisation and globalisation. Investigating twenty-first century narratives of belonging by Reinhard Jirgl, Christoph Hein, Angelika Overath, Florian Illies, Juli Zeh, Stephan Wackwitz, Uwe Timm and Peter Schneider, Shortt examines how the desire to belong is repeatedly unsettled by disturbances of lineage and tradition. In this way, she combines an analysis of supermodernity with an enquiry into German memory contests on the National Socialist era, 1968 and 1989 that continue to shape identity in the Berlin Republic. Exploring a spectrum of narratives that range from agitated disavowals of place to romances of belonging, this study illuminates the topography of belonging in contemporary Germany.
