This two-volume reference presents a series of review and research articles on advances in computing, marine physics, and remote sensing and addresses their importance to shallow sea modeling. Intended as a tribute to Dr. Norman Heaps, topics in the book reflect the range and diversity of his work, as well as his influence on international marine science. Topics discussed include numerical techniques, flow in homogenous sea regions, stratified flows, lake regimes, validation of numerical models, remote sensing as a method to collect oceanographic data at the sea surface, and bottom boundary modeling. Marine scientists actively involved in mathematical modeling and scientists who are interested in using models as tools to gain more insight and understanding of the processes they are observing will find this text useful.

This book presents the texts of selected lectures on recent work in the field of nonlinear partial differential equations delivered by leading international experts at the well-established weekly seminar held at the Collège de France. Emphasis is on applications to numerous areas, including control theory, theoretical physics, fluid and continuum mechanics, free boundary problems, dynamical systems, scientific computing, numerical analysis, and engineering. Proceedings of this seminar will be of particular interest to postgraduate students and specialists in the area of nonlinear partial differential equations.

Hydrodynamics And Transport For Water Quality Modeling written by James L. Martin and has been published by CRC Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2018-05-04 with Technology & Engineering categories.

Hydrodynamics and Transport for Water Quality Modeling presents a complete overview of current methods used to describe or predict transport in aquatic systems, with special emphasis on water quality modeling. The book features detailed descriptions of each method, supported by sample applications and case studies drawn from the authors' years of experience in the field. Each chapter examines a variety of modeling approaches, from simple to complex. This unique text/reference offers a wealth of information previously unavailable from a single source. The book begins with an overview of basic principles, and an introduction to the measurement and analysis of flow. The following section focuses on rivers and streams, including model complexity and data requirements, methods for estimating mixing, hydrologic routing methods, and unsteady flow modeling. The third section considers lakes and reservoirs, and discusses stratification and temperature modeling, mixing methods, reservoir routing and water balances, and dynamic modeling using one-, two-, and three-dimensional models. The book concludes with a section on estuaries, containing topics such as origins and classification, tides, mixing methods, tidally averaged estuary models, and dynamic modeling. Over 250 figures support the text. This is a valuable guide for students and practicing modelers who do not have extensive backgrounds in fluid dynamics.

The Mathematics Of Models For Climatology And Environment written by Jesus I. Diaz and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-06-29 with Science categories.

This book is the culmination of the NATO Advanced Study Institute on The Mathematics of Models for Climatology and Environment which was held at Puerto de la Cruz ,Tenerife, Spain during 11-21 January 1995. One of the main goals of the ASI was to establish a bridge between mathematical modellers on the one hand and physical oceanographers and climatologists on the other. The book is divided into fourth parts containing a total of 16 chapters: Parts I, II and III are devoted to general models and Part IV to models related to some local problems. Most of the mathematical models here considered involve systems of nonlinear partial differential equations. The mathemat ical treatment cover a large list of subjects: existence and uniqueness for well-possed problems, large time behaviour, stability, bifurcation, diagrams of equilibria, conditions for the occurrence of interfaces or free boundaries, numerical algorithms and its implementation, controllability of the problems, etc. I thank Jacques- Louis Lions and Cornelius Johannes van Duijn for their guidance and collaboration as co-directors of the AS!. I also thank J.F.Padial and G. Diaz for their help in the planning and conduct of the ASI as well as in the preparation of this book.

Marine Turbulence written by Helmut Z. Baumert and has been published by Cambridge University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2005-04-04 with Science categories.

This 2005 book gives a comprehensive overview of measurement techniques and theories for marine turbulence and mixing processes. It describes the processes which control the mixing of greenhouse gases, nutrients, trace elements, and hazardous substances in our oceans and shelf seas - from local to planetary scales. These processes buffer climate changes and are centrally important for regional to global ecosystem dynamics. The publication also contains source codes of turbulence models and models of the upper-ocean mixing layer (COHERENS and GOTM), and observational data sets of turbulence characteristics or corresponding proxies of waters from all over the world. These can be found at www.cambridge.org/9780521153720. Written by a team of 53 world-leading experts, it represents a rich source of data and methods for students and scientists in oceanography, hydrology, limnology, and meteorology, as well as marine, naval and civil engineers.
