Return with us now to those thrilling days of yesteryear, when from out of the past come the thundering hoofbeats of the great horse Silver! The Lone Ranger rides again! Who was the mind behind The Lone Ranger? It's 1930s Buffalo, and the Great Depression rages. Playwright Fran Striker needs to write the pilot for a new radio show but, first, he must overcome writer's block, defeat a curse, foil a plot to assassinate FDR, and recover stolen diamond rings belonging to alcoholic boxing champion. Who was that masked man? Based on the controversial true-life story of Lone Ranger creator Fran Striker, Yesteryear takes us on a magical journey leading to an icon's debut, a show that provided hope to Americans during the country's darkest days. Populated by characters of the era— radio actor John Barrett, Mafioso Stefano Magaddino, former lightweight champion Jimmy Slattery, and president-elect Franklin D. Roosevelt— Eoannou's latest novel breathes new life into the immortal Lone Ranger, and the man who struggled to create him, echoing the spirit of W.P. Kinsella's Shoeless Joe, Bernard Malamud's The Natural, Daniel Wallace's Big Fish.

This book leads you down the not-so-hallowed halls of law enforcement of four decades ago. It gives you an extra set of eyes and ears in the roll call lineups, in the patrol cars and detective cruisers, on the radio calls, in the streets and in the interview rooms, in the chases, arrests, gunfights, fist fights, hostage situations, and investigationsnot on a movie set but the real thing. You experience the sights, the sounds, the smells of a cops days and nights. You hear their words and those of the victims, witnesses and suspects when theyre not reading from a screenwriters script or posturing for the cameras of a reality show. It is populated not with fictional creations but real characters, by every definition of those words. The events, emotions and language are all served rawno dressing, no garnish. The rookies enthusiasm and optimism, the experienced veterans cynicism, the boredom of routine, the thrill of the pursuit, the satisfaction of a job well done, the frustration when events go bad, the anger, the hilarity, the dark and irreverent sense of humor, all pathways to the Ph. D. in Human Nature every street cop receives in a big city.

Raised On Radio written by Gerald Nachman and has been published by Pantheon this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012-10-17 with Performing Arts categories.

For everybody "raised on radio"—and that's everybody brought up in the thirties, forties, and early fifties—this is the ultimate book, combining nostalgia, history, judgment, and fun, as it reminds us of just how wonderful (and sometimes just how silly) this vanished medium was. Of course, radio still exists—but not the radio of The Lone Ranger and One Man's Family, of Our Gal Sunday and Life Can Be Beautiful, of The Goldbergs and Amos 'n' Andy, of Easy Aces, Vic and Sade, and Bob and Ray, of The Shadow and The Green Hornet, of Bing Crosby, Kate Smith, and Baby Snooks, of the great comics, announcers, sound-effects men, sponsors, and tycoons. In the late 1920s radio exploded almost overnight into being America's dominant entertainment, just as television would do twenty-five years later. Gerald Nachman, himself a product of the radio years—as a boy he did his homework to the sound of Jack Benny and Our Miss Brooks—takes us back to the heyday of radio, bringing to life the great performers and shows, as well as the not-so-great and not-great-at-all. Nachman analyzes the many genres that radio deployed or invented, from the soap opera to the sitcom to the quiz show, zooming in to study closely key performers like Benny, Bob Hope, and Fred Allen, while pulling back to an overview that manages to be both comprehensive and seductively specific. Here is a book that is generous, instructive, and sinfully readable—and that brings an era alive as it salutes an extraordinary American phenomenon.

Sending emails 'You have News from Wandaland" to family and friends all across the states and to foreign countries is a hobby of Kodell Parker. He lives on a small cattle farm in north east Texas where cattle graze and coyotes sing at night. He often wrote about some amusing experience or happening. This became an interest after having retired from a major Oil Company in Alaska in the late 70's, and settling down in Texas. Since there are days for no hay pitching, stalls to clean or fences to fix there was time for other satisfying and pleasurable activities to engage in. In the bunk house in the drawer of an old file cabinet which has seen its better days is a folder containing copies of many e-mails he has sent to a mail list over the past few years. He never kept any of the replies sent to him for reasons which have escaped his mind. Often comments about a certain subject written about were received. It was not uncommon for someone to say "better layoff the juice" or "hide the jug in the barn." There was one who said that he was a "hoot" whatever that is. When the "mood "came upon him to tell folks hither and yonder how it is at Wandaland he just weighed in and commenced to write. His e-mails are styled as "News from Wandaland where the cows are always hungry and never give up their milk." More than once a person or two would say you should write a book about that. This is a collection of a few of his "News from Wandaland" just to show that he is not "loco", strange or a complete idiot as some people have commented. Perhaps you will say there is a wrangler "out there" sending e-mails all over the country and you should read one or two. The short stories are Reflection of rural life of the Parker family of fifteen siblings living in East Texas. The author penned the stories when he worked for a major oil company at Dead Horse, Alaska in the 1970's when there was total dark days and "cabin fever" would set it. He truly hopes the e-mails and the short stories are pleasurable.. Thank you for allowing them to be shared with you. Sincerely, Kodell Parker, head wrangler at Wandaland.

America A Purpose Driven Nation written by Philip Michael Pantana and has been published by Xulon Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2007-11 with Religion categories.

AMERICA-A PURPOSE - DRIVEN NATION ONE NATION UNITED ONE GOD JEHOVAH ONE LAW BIBLICAL Freedom of Religion The founding of America was Providential, not accidental. America was founded on purpose for a purpose-freedom to worship as people please. Christianity is the faith that gave birth to freedom of religion. Because of this spiritual heritage, America is known around the world for freedom the Bill of Rights ensures for all citizens, beginning with religious tolerance. Reversing Current Secular Trends What secularists are doing today is repressive to the First Amendment and offensive to Christians. The secularist agenda to enact "Hate Crimes" laws designed contrary to biblical principles is a destructive form of government opposing the consent of the governed. Ronald Reagan, hero of conservatives, said, "The frustrating thing is that those who are attacking religion claim they are doing it in the name of tolerance. Question: Isn't the real truth that they are intolerant of religion?" Reversing the current trend of secularization in American society involves making two essential changes: (1) quashing the unfriendly secularist war on faith; and (2) overturning activist Courts which limit Judeo-Christian expression in the public arena. Real Problems-Real Solutions This book features a Contract with Conservatives that offers real solutions to the vital issues "we the people" must come to grips with. Like German reformer Martin Luther in October of 1517, Pantana nails 95 theses of conservatism on the false walls, erected by secularists, which separate church from state. History is too filled with examples of this pattern for it to be ignored. The silent majority must let its voice be heard loud and clear at the ballot box in the 2008 election. For more information on the 95 proposals in the Contract with Conservatives visit www.purposedrivennation.com
