"Schragenheim, Camp and Surace, three leaders of TOC community, are tackling one of value destroyers of corporations—the misuse and abuse of traditional cost accounting. This book develops a practical methodology for better decision making by looking at the impact of certain types of decisions on a company’s bottom line. This well-defined methodology allows mid-managers, higher level managers and financial staff to create real value by concentrating on what truly matters." Boaz Ronen, Professor Emeritus, Coller School of Management, Tel Aviv University, Tel Aviv, Israel "Throughput Economics is a must read for entrepreneurs and managers who want to make their organizations more and more antifragile." Andrea Zattoni, CEO of Antifragility, Italy "Management accounting is a dry topic. Throughput Economics is not—managers can learn a lot they can apply to their company from it." Rudolf Burkhart, Business Development Director, Vistem Gmbh, Germany Throughput Economics challenges the current thinking of how to evaluate cost, risks and rewards of any deal or any other new market opportunity being considered, especially the practice of calculating cost-per-unit. Instead, this book offers a process that directly answers the critical question: If we accept the proposed decision, will the performance of the organization improve? The process involves the intuition of the key people in the organization, together with the relevant data, to come up with the best available information from which to form a reasonable range of net profit, when the considered decision is added on top of all the other activities undertaken by the organization. The process is explained and demonstrated using a variety of cases where the organization faces a new non-trivial idea, along with a detailed explanation of how it should work, including software support that provides very quick response to many what-if suggestions. This book offers a new and well-defined process, applicable to every organization, that considers both financial impacts and capacity limitations and, also, includes the impact of uncertainty by providing the range of reasonable results rather than one number, which is always proven wrong in the end. Overall, the book provides a holistic method for simplified decision making in seemingly complex or shifting environments using a constraints mindset to facilitate companies’ realization, for the first time, their true potential.

Throughput Accounting in a Hyperconnected World provides innovative insights into controversial debates regarding the configuration and use of accounting and finance information both internally within economic entities and through third parties. These debates underline the major responsibility of users when configuring accounting and finance models and thereby in modelling business information. Real World Economics written by Edward Fullbrook and has been published by Anthem Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2007-02-01 with Business & Economics categories.

Economics is extremely sick. It is so locked in its past that nearly all of its introductory textbooks are modelled on one that appeared in 1948. The discipline cannot continue in its autistic state much longer. This book takes you to the heart of a fiery and many-faceted debate. It is comprised of 66 articles that have been selected based on their importance to the reform movement and for their accessibility to the general reader. ‘Real economic problems’ concern real people, so their analysis must be made intelligible to an educated general public if real democracy is to function. All economists must learn to live without the belief that there is only one right way of describing and explaining reality. This requires economists to begin the development of an ethos of honesty regarding the limitations of their chosen approaches.

This volume brings together leading economists in the UK to address the issue of the sustainable use of the natural environment. The result is a set of original essays which reappraise the 'no growth' debate, investigate the new environmental ethic being built on the concept of sustainable development, look at the way in which projects with major environmental consequences should be evaluated, and ask how future generations are to be represented in economic evaluation.

Devolution Port Governance And Port Performance written by Mary R Brooks and has been published by Elsevier this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2006-11-13 with Business & Economics categories.

The relationship between ports and governments has changed profoundly over the past quarter of a century. Many governments have sought to extract themselves from the business of port operations and, in many cases, the provision of port services has devolved to local governments, communities or private management and administration. As such devolution implies a change in governance model, this trend raises questions about consequent performance. This issue examines the changed port management environment, focusing particularly on government policies such as devolution, regulatory reform and newly imposed governance models, all of which have exerted a significant influence over the nature of that changed environment. The issue is structured so as to first explore the devolution and port reform approaches for 14 countries or regions, before examining how ports are governed and what the choice of governance might mean for their performance. Part I introduces the issue, and provides a framework for defining the basic concepts involved in devolution; it paints a picture of the current port environment, its likely future evolution and the expected impact this will have on the functioning of ports. Part II examines the port industry in 14 countries or administrations, and presents the thinking behind any devolution programs that have been implemented. Part III focuses on port governance and devolution generally, and examines governance from both strategic management and economics perspectives, including topics such as governance models, supranational governance and stakeholder conflict. Part IV examines the measurement of port performance and closes by providing conclusions and a future research agenda. This issue will be of interest to port managers, government officials and academics alike. *Examines the relationship between ports and governments with a focus on devolution *Divided into sections that provide an overview, evaluate the port industry, disucss port governance, and suggest new measures of port performance *14 countries or regions are addressed
