Fra de første bistader i hule træstammer til nutidens opmærksomhed på vilde bier, sprøjtemidler og bæredygtighed. Bogen er den første udgivelse om biavlens udvikling i Danmark og portrætterer både professionelle biavlere og fritidsavlere. Honning er stadig det primære produkt, men bivoksen som man engang brugte til vokslys og til bronzestøbernes produktion af kirkeklokker, benyttes i dag også i alt fra kosmetik til overtræk til granater og moderne jagerfly.
