The papers in this book question the tyranny of typological thinking in archaeology through case studies from various South American countries (Venezuela, Colombia, Bolivia, Argentina, and Brazil) and Antarctica. They aim to show that typologies are unavoidable (they are, after all, the way to create networks that give meanings to symbols) but that their tyranny can be overcome if they are used from a critical, heuristic and non-prescriptive stance: critical because the complacent attitude towards their tyranny is replaced by a militant stance against it; heuristic because they are used as means to reach alternative and suggestive interpretations but not as ultimate and definite destinies; and non-prescriptive because instead of using them as threads to follow they are rather used as constitutive parts of more complex and connective fabrics. The papers included in the book are diverse in temporal and locational terms. They cover from so called Formative societies in lowland Venezuela to Inca-related ones in Bolivia; from the coastal shell middens of Brazil to the megalithic sculptors of SW Colombia. Yet, the papers are related. They have in common their shared rejection of established, naturalized typologies that constrain the way archaeologists see, forcing their interpretations into well known and predictable conclusions. Their imaginative interpretative proposals flee from the secure comfort of venerable typologies, many suspicious because of their association with colonial political narratives. Instead, the authors propose novel ways of dealing with archaeological data.

Quien se haya adentrado en el pensamiento del filósofo francés Paul Ricœur tendrá presente alguna tensión conceptual o debate entre pensadores con los que se enfrentó su obra. Si hay algo que caracteriza su estilo de filosofar es haber hecho frente a este tipo de conflictos para intentar lograr alguna suerte de “reconciliación”, que adopta el rostro de dialécticas siempre abiertas, imperfectas e incluso asimétricas. Como fruto del Primer Coloquio Iberoamericano sobre el Pensamiento de Paul Ricœur se presentan reflexiones organizadas en tres dimensiones: algunas ensayan comprender, explicar y “aplicar” lo que sostenía Paul Ricoer. Otras toman su obra como plataforma para entender cuestiones no evaluadas originariamente por él o extenderla a contextos que exceden su situación histórica o sus cuantiosos intereses filosóficos. Finalmente, están las que cavaron en los fundamentos teóricos para repensar su legado filosófico. Todos estos escritos pueden ser pensados de acuerdo con las mismas pautas reflexivas que el propio Ricoer propuso frente a la obra de Bultmann: no pensar contra Ricœur, “ni siquiera junto o más allá de su obra, sino, en cierto modo, por debajo”.

Considerar que las identificaciones fáctico-jurídicas se encuentran prefiguradas por el propio marco de información factual que las reglas del proceso instruyen, simplifica la complejidad del problema de los hechos, mas no lo resuelve. Para su comprensión no basta con comprimirlos —mediante subsunción simple o doble (ponderación)— en figuras jurídicas. Es necesario recurrir, además, a la teoría de la norma y la teoría de la prueba. Pero para delimitar el perímetro de incertidumbre normativa, así como para conocer qué y cómo probar un hecho, antes se debe elaborar una reconstrucción en historia capaz de mostrar los hechos en acción y no sólo la acción de estos. Temas como el control narrativo de la coherencia de la cuestión fáctica, el artificio y las condiciones narrativas en que los hechos se construyen procesalmente, estándares de discursividad narrativa en las retóricas partidarias y retóricas de la imparcialidad desenvueltas por los protagonistas procesales, el compromiso del proceso con la verdad de los hechos, son parte del contenido que esta edición hace visible bajo el título de Proceso y Narración.
