El 13 de septiembre de 1993 se firmaba la Declaración de Principios entre la Organización para la Liberación de Palestina (OLP) e Israel, conocida más genéricamente como los Acuerdos de Oslo. Tres décadas después, la situación humana y política de los territorios palestinos está considerablemente peor que antes. Lejos de las expectativas suscitadas entonces, se ha ampliado la ocupación, reforzado la dependencia palestina de Israel y eliminado la posibilidad de un Estado palestino viable. Pese a los avances de la cuestión de Palestina en la esfera internacional, no existe ninguna iniciativa ni compromiso internacional significativo que abogue por su defensa de manera efectiva. Por el contrario, se observa un palpable abandono de los esfuerzos políticos y diplomáticos en esa dirección entre las grandes potencias mundiales, regionales e, incluso, Estados árabes. Nada de esto excusa la excepcionalidad israelí como expresión de un arcaico, ilegal e inmoral colonialismo de asentamiento y régimen de apartheid. La pasividad o la neutralidad no son más que expresiones de complicidad ante situaciones de injusticia. El pueblo palestino se enfrenta a una de las mayores encrucijadas de su historia contemporánea. Después de que su territorio sufriera una radical transformación geopolítica y demográfica en el siglo XX, con la limpieza étnica de tres cuartas partes de su población entre 1947 y 1948, hoy afronta la amenaza de un masivo desplazamiento forzado; además de ser objeto de una campaña militar en la que se han perpetrado crímenes de guerra y de lesa humanidad, además de un posible genocidio según la Corte Internacional de Justicia. El comportamiento israelí es más propio de un Estado paria que, paradójicamente, goza de impunidad en el sistema internacional debido al apoyo de las principales potencias occidentales, encabezadas por Estados Unidos, Reino Unido y Alemania. Además de la potencial desestabilización de Oriente Medio, todo indica que se ha establecido un punto de inflexión que entierra definitivamente la solución de los dos Estados sostenida por la mayoría de la comunidad internacional como vía para resolver este prolongado conflicto colonial. El Gobierno de Netanyahu y sus aliados de coalición pretenden aprovechar esta nueva coyuntura para imponer su proyecto expansionista, con la extensión y normalización de la soberanía israelí sobre el conjunto del territorio entre el río Jordán y el mar Mediterráneo, de un solo Estado etnocrático y de apartheid.
