Fifteen-year-old Mina Clark lives in a future Manhattan that is ruled by extremists. Girls aren’t allowed to get an education, they need permission to speak to boys, and all marriages are negotiated by contract. But Mina’s grandmother has secretly been teaching her to read, leading Mina down a path of rebellion, romance, and danger that not only threatens to destroy her family’s reputation, it could get Mina killed. Suspenseful and empowering, Time Zero is about what it’s like to be powerless, underestimated, and manipulated and what it takes to go against society to assert who you actually want to be.

Many books have been written with respect to either time management, quality control/assurance, cost control or the likes. However, if you apply them in isolation, you may compromise either time, quality or cost. As a result, many people just accept the so called balance between time, quality and cost. To the writer, that balance is not good enough. So for the first time, a book is written with the view to acquire the three important values in totality and achieve excellence with the introduction of the terms zero time, zero mistake, zero cost and a problem solving principle. Chapter 1 will explain the philosophies behind the problem solving principle uphold by this book. Chapter 2 will illustrate the ingredients of this problem solving principle i.e. the formulas such as "the next definite step", "discontinue the work", "what we want ultimately", etc. which were derived from the philosophies explained in Chapter 1. Chapter 3 will explain how the formulas stated in Chapter 2 were applied in piece meal basis to manage fast track projects by some reputable companies in the world. Chapter 4 will illustrate how the formulas are integrated to form a simple but yet effective and efficient problem solving principle. The ways on how this problem solving principle can be applied to solve simple to complicated problems are explained in Chapter 5 This problem solving principle is also flexible such that you can integrate it with your way of thinking to manage time, quality and cost the way you want.

It is an inescapable fact; every situation has a "Time Zero" waiting to occur, be it the expectant mother anxiously looking forward to her new baby, a weary worker watching the clock slowly drag toward quitting time, or the end of San Francisco as we know it today. A clandestine meeting on the French Rivera between a terrorist and an international arms dealer to obtain Atomic Demolition Charges (mini A-bombs) begins the trail of action and intrigue that culminates in San Francisco. Cross and double cross occurs as the A-bombs change hands. Captain Tim Mitchell, (the President's prodigal stepson), sneaks Major Jaqui Carlyle, an unauthorized crew member, onboard the final flight, testing the 21st century's newest military weapon. Night Vision Goggles for pilots. When exposed, Major Carlyle is reassigned to a new hush-hush facility in west Texas. Captain Mitchell is assigned to flying a desk as assistant information officer at the home of Star Wars. The Lawrence Livermore Laboratory in California. Armando Quionez; a self-educated scientist is contacted by the terrorist who Sky-Jacked the ADCs and manufactures the ADC detonators. To prove his firing pin works, one is exploded at White Sands New Mexico. Plexiglass coffins nicknamed "Gadgets" are constructed for two A-bombs which are placed under the Golden Gate and Bay bridges. The bombs are armed so if it is disturbed it will detonated. The news media is notified that the Gadgets are hot and the deadline for denotation is established. Mitchell has minimal qualifications as a scientist but is about to prove his talent as commander under fire.

This text describes a series of models, propositions, and algorithms developed in recent years on time-varying networks. References and discussions on relevant problems and studies that have appeared in the literature are integrated in the book. Its eight chapters consider problems including the shortest path problem, the minimum-spanning tree problem, the maximum flow problem, and many more. The time-varying traveling salesman problem and the Chinese postman problem are presented in a chapter together with the time-varying generalized problem. While these topics are examined within the framework of time-varying networks, each chapter is self-contained so that each can be read – and used – separately.

This is an introduction to an investment course that focuses on basic models used in the financial industry for investment and decision making. The course begins with an overview of the investment environment in developed markets, followed by a more in-depth analysis of key investment topics. These topics include modern portfolio theory, asset pricing models, term structure of interest rates, stock and bond portfolio management and evaluation of portfolio performance. Modern finance extensively uses the concept of arbitrage, or rather the lack of it in financial markets, and the course highlights such uses in different circumstances. The course takes a hands-on approach with the aid of a software package, Maple™, the details of which will be explained during the first lecture. Consequently, most lectures will be divided between a theoretical lecture and a lab — a practical implementation of the theoretical material of the lecture. The use of the Maple™ software in this course simulates, to a certain extent, a professional environment. It allows visualizations of different concepts, minimizes tedious algebraic calculations and the use of calculus while equipping students with intuitive understanding. This is facilitated by the symbolic power of Maple™ and its excellent graphic and animation capabilities.Institutional material is surveyed very concisely, so the reader gets an appreciation of the investment 'lay of the land'. It is enhanced by an eLearning unit, self-administrated quizzes as well as a stock market game, utilizing StockTrack™. StockTrack™ introduces students to trading in the real world by practicing different types of orders as well as introducing conventions common in the investment community.

An updated edition of the text that explores the core topics in scheduling theory The second edition of Principles of Sequencing and Scheduling has been revised and updated to provide comprehensive coverage of sequencing and scheduling topics as well as emerging developments in the field. The text offers balanced coverage of deterministic models and stochastic models and includes new developments in safe scheduling and project scheduling, including coverage of project analytics. These new topics help bridge the gap between classical scheduling and actual practice. The authors—noted experts in the field—present a coherent and detailed introduction to the basic models, problems, and methods of scheduling theory. This book offers an introduction and overview of sequencing and scheduling and covers such topics as single-machine and multi-machine models, deterministic and stochastic problem formulations, optimization and heuristic solution approaches, and generic and specialized software methods. This new edition adds coverage on topics of recent interest in shop scheduling and project scheduling. This important resource: Offers comprehensive coverage of deterministic models as well as recent approaches and developments for stochastic models Emphasizes the application of generic optimization software to basic sequencing problems and the use of spreadsheet-based optimization methods Includes updated coverage on safe scheduling, lognormal modeling, and job selection Provides basic coverage of robust scheduling as contrasted with safe scheduling Adds a new chapter on project analytics, which supports the PERT21 framework for project scheduling in a stochastic environment. Extends the coverage of PERT 21 to include hierarchical scheduling Provides end-of-chapter references and access to advanced Research Notes, to aid readers in the further exploration of advanced topics Written for upper-undergraduate and graduate level courses covering such topics as scheduling theory and applications, project scheduling, and operations scheduling, the second edition of Principles of Sequencing and Scheduling is a resource that covers scheduling techniques and contains the most current research and emerging topics.
