The Green Berets' motto is "Liberate the Oppressed," and it takes extremely capable and highly trained individuals to carry out their operations in the world's most dangerous and unforgiving locales. They operate behind enemy lines, sometimes for months at a time, are trained to work in all climates and cultures, and have a "no surrender" will of spirit if ever taken prisoner. This book provides an insider's view of what it takes to become a member of the Army's Special Forces, the elite Green Berets. It describes the skills they learn and equipment and tactics used to engage in unconventional warfare, foreign internal defense, direct action, special reconnaissance, anti-terrorism missions, information operations, and counter-proliferation.

Memoirs cover the life of an immigrant from his youth in Berlin, Germany, experiencing World War II to his later immigration to the United States and service in the US Army and Special Forces, the Green Berets. The book covers his experiences as a member of the "Jungvolk" and Hitler Youth during Air Raids in Berlin, evacuation of the family without a father to the East, life on a Trek from the Polish border back to Berlin and combat against the Russian Army. Following the loss of WWII it describes life under Soviet Occupation, bare survival and later flight to freedom from East Germany to West Germany. Reaching the American Sector in West Germany and processing through a refugee camp, his family was reunited with their father a former member of the German Air Force, who had been a POW. Having lost all of their personal belongings as a result of the war, the author was obligated to leave school to support the family. Unable to find adequate employment he eventually joined a para-military US Army unit, which later on gave him the opportunity to emigrate to the United States. Once in the States, he saw the opportunities the military offered to "Be all you can be", as the Army once promised in their recruiting efforts. He joined the Army and following his enlisted career advanced through his determination to become a commissioned officer, qualifying himself through extraordinary training in the field of Ranger, Airborne, Jungle Warfare and finally the US Army Special Forces, the so-called Green Berets. He had the opportunity to serve several tours in Germany, as well as tours in the Republic of South Vietnam during 1967-1968 and the Republic of Korea. Following a 20-year career in the military, the decorated combat veteran retired at Fort Bragg, NC and finally moved with his wife and two children to Hagerstown, MD.

Yellow Green Beret written by Chester Wong and has been published by CreateSpace this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012-04-01 with History categories.

Yellow Green Beret: Volume II delves into many of the gaps in between the crooks and alleys of the keystone stories in Volume I that colored Chester Wong's checkered career as a U.S. Army Special Forces officer - again, with the same brutal cynicism and genuine honesty in his portrayal of his experiences. As with Yellow Green Beret: Volume I, Wong relates his unusual experiences as an Asian-American special operations commander in a humanistic and flawed tone to which all can relate, and this collection helps further paint a detailed picture of the special operations world in which he lived. Both humorously self-deprecating and solemn at times, his accounts follow the painful road he took to reach the position of elite counterterrorist commander, and reveal his fleeting moments of fortitude and determination, despite having the odds often stacked against him. Again spanning his days as a young and naive West Point cadet to his later years as a counterterrorist commander in Iraq and the Philippines, Wong lays out stories that range from desperately taking singing lessons to improve his performance during karaoke parties with his Filipino special operations counterparts to the palpable nervousness and fog of war on his first helicopter raid to capture one of Iraq's most dangerous insurgent leaders. Never hesitating to point out the difficulties and lessons he learned along the way, the author invites you to enjoy, laugh, and reflect upon his experiences along with him.

In October 2001 the most militarily advanced nation on earth came into conflict with one of the least developed nations as American forces poured into Afghanistan. The tip of the spear was drawn from the US Special Forces community, and largely from the units of the United States Army Special Forces – the famous Green Berets. Together with the Special Activities Division of the CIA and the Afghan Northern Alliance, they overthrew the Taliban in a lightning campaign that redefined modern warfare. This new study reveals the grueling Green Beret training and preparation, the specialized equipment they used in the field and traces their deployment throughout the campaign, from the first insertion of forces through to the fall of Kabul and Kandahar, the Taliban uprising at the notorious Fort of War in Mazar-e-Sharif, and the clearance of Tora Bora and Operation Anaconda in the Shahikot Valley.

Reflections of a Warrior is a Medal of Honor winner's true story—a Green Beret's six deadly years in the killing fields of Vietnam. PFC Franklin Miller arrived in Vietnam in March 1966, and saw his first combat in a Reconnaissance Platoon. So began an odyssey that would make him into one of the most feared and respected men in the Special Forces elite, who made their own rules in the chaos of war. In the exclusive world of the Military Assistance Command, Vietnam, Studies and Observation Group, Miller ran missions deep into enemy territory to gather intelligence, snatch prisoners, and to kill. Leading small bands of battle-hardened Montagnard and Meo tribesmen, he was fierce and fearless—fighting army policy to stay in combat for six tours. On a top-secret mission in 1970, Miller and a handful of men, all critically injured, held off the NVA in an incredible Alamo-like stand—for which he was awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor. When his time in Southeast Asia ended, he had also received the Silver Star, two Bronze Stars, an Air Medal, and six Purple Hearts. This is his incredible story.
