"The Commandment to Restore and to Build Jerusalem" is a study on the book of Ezra by Adventist pioneer John Nevins (J.N.) Andrews. First written in 1865, this short book proves without a doubt that the starting date of the 2,300 year prophecy of Daniel 8:14 was in the year 457 BC. Andrews weighs up the arguments for and against 457 BC as the year of the decree, substantiating the date with authoritative historical evidence. The reader is systematically taken through the scriptures and shown very clearly that the three decrees of Cyrus, Darius, and Artaxerxes as a whole make up the commandment to restore and to build Jerusalem. One impetus for Andrews' book was to lay to rest the theory proposed by William C. Thurman in his book entitled "The Sealed Book of Daniel Opened." In his introduction, Andrews dismissed most of Thurman's claims as not even worthy of consideration. One point Andrews felt must be addressed, however was Thurman's contention that it was Cyrus, not Artaxerxes, who issued the command to restore and rebuild Jerusalem. The interpretation of the 2300 days, and their start date, hinged on the correct historical placement of this decree. Thurman's "unsealing" of Daniel was based on his contention that the sixty-nine weeks were to be dated from the decree of Cyrus. In "The Commandment to Restore and Build Jerusalem," Andrews provides ample biblical evidence to disprove Thurman's contention, demonstrating from scripture that the 2300 days commenced at the decree of Artaxerxes, and with that, that the Adventist interpretation of the 2300 days was and still is correct.

“Build Thou the Walls of Jerusalem” and “True Light” are two of the many sermons delivered by Pastor Paul Sudhakar. Today, there are many believers who are not leading a fruitful Christian life either because they are guilty of some sin they’ve committed or they’re faced with so many questions that they are lost in finding a biblical answer. Pastor Paul Sudhakar, through his sermon series on “Build Thou the Walls of Jerusalem” and “True Light,” explains many of these questions. “Build Thou the Walls of Jerusalem” is an in-depth study on what happens when a believer sins. Through the prayer that King David makes in Psalms 51, Pastor Paul Sudhakar has explained the following points: 1. What led David to sin? And how should a believer watch out at present times? 2. Can God not bless and restore us in the same way that he did with King David? The second sermon, “True Light,” is emphasized on the verse “let there be light.” It talks about how without the true light, darkness, emptiness, and ugliness is spread all over. It explains the impact of true light shining on three individuals: Zacchaeus, Job, and John the Baptist. It correlates how a God of multitude is also a God of an individual. Though he ministered to the larger crowds, he still took time to seek out individuals and minister to their needs.

A biographical excavation of one of the world’s great, troubled cities A remarkable view of one of the world’s most beloved and troubled cities, Adina Hoffman’s Till We Have Built Jerusalem is a gripping and intimate journey into the very different lives of three architects who helped shape modern Jerusalem. The book unfolds as an excavation. It opens with the 1934 arrival in Jerusalem of the celebrated Berlin architect Erich Mendelsohn, a refugee from Hitler’s Germany who must reckon with a complex new Middle Eastern reality. Next we meet Austen St. Barbe Harrison, Palestine’s chief government architect from 1922 to 1937. Steeped in the traditions of Byzantine and Islamic building, this “most private of public servants” finds himself working under the often stifling and violent conditions of British rule. And in the riveting final section, Hoffman herself sets out through the battered streets of today’s Jerusalem searching for traces of a possibly Greek, possibly Arab architect named Spyro Houris. Once a fixture on the local scene, Houris is now utterly forgotten, though his grand Armenian-tile-clad buildings still stand, a ghostly testimony to the cultural fluidity that has historically characterized Jerusalem at its best. A beautifully written rumination on memory and forgetting, place and displacement, Till We Have Built Jerusalem uncovers the ramifying layers of one great city’s buried history as it asks what it means, everywhere, to be foreign and to belong.
