The purpose of this study is to examine the link between collaboration and innovation. Recent years have witnessed hype over the need for collaborations in the innovation process. A vast literature supports the notion that collaboration leads to more innovations. Less heard are claims that collaboration might hinder innovation. This study offers empirical data on the sectoral level for two reasons: scientific research is mostly corporate; the data are collected from the stem cell industry in Israel, in which the research is conducted by research organizations. No inventors work in this field alone due to high costs of research and development (R&D). The focus on this industry provides a unique opportunity to examine the entire population and not make do with just a sample. The data include patent-based indicators of the value of innovations. Regression results support the notion of collaboration as an innovation generator, but also shed light on the nature of knowledge produced by collaborations. Collaborative patents are cited more, and they also encompass more primary and groundbreaking knowledge, as opposed to knowledge embedded in non-collaborative patents. For the first time this study provides systematic evidence of the innovative value of collaborative patents, and thus tips the scale in favor of those supporting the establishment of collaborations. From a policy perspective, a sound innovation policy should take into account that innovation ecosystem is organized in the form of Quadruple Helix, but more impotently, that to foster cross-sectoral collaborations, an emphasis must be placed especially on motivating firms to include in their Targeted Open Innovation Strategy, the main strategy employed by firms operating in the Quadruple Helix ecosystem, the initiation of cross-sectoral collaborations.This paper shows the need for a more open innovation ecosystem, and calls for further research to assess the targeted partners.

The purpose of this book seeks to examine the leadership of the Black church through a critical and theoretical lens utilizing historical and anthropological foci to better identify and understand some of the challenges within the paramount institution and its attrition to the Black American community at large and provide appropriate suggestions and generating frameworks for addressing the challenges. The church has always played a pivotal role in Black American culture's identity, development, and progression. Leadership and organizational challenges within the church pervasively matriculate to other Black spaces, historically Black organizations, and a broader societal context. Due to the church's historical and ethnographic context for Blacks in America, many of the challenges faced in the church go unrecognized, unspoken, thus unattended. This manuscript endeavors to identify the challenges, and flaws through research and data, to provide solutions through practical and theoretical implementations to some shortcomings for the betterment of the church and culture. The interconnectedness of culture and religion for Blacks in America established a gargantuan impact factor on the church and its leaders. This manuscript examines the pervading effects of the influence through leadership dispensation. It also explores the understanding of leadership through the lens of Black Christianity, deriving that the foundation of leadership in the Black community was primarily circumscribed by the influence of the church as conglomerate collectivism of almost five hundred years of the history and culture of Africans, African descendants, and members of the African diaspora in what is now America who contributed to the ideal of the Black church. The critical analysis provided is not one of condemnation but likened to a vital performance review through member experiences barred against applicable leadership and organizational development barometers.

Collaborative Networks A Tool for Promoting Co-creation and Innovation The collaborative networks paradigm offers powerful socio-organizational mec- nisms, supported by advanced information and communication technologies for p- moting innovation. This, in turn, leads to new products and services, growth of better customer relationships, establishing better project and process management, and building higher-performing consortia. By putting diverse entities that bring different perspectives, competencies, practices, and cultures, to work together, collaborative networks develop the right environment for the emergence of new ideas and more efficient, yet practical, solutions. This aspect is particularly important for small and medium enterprises which typically lack critical mass and can greatly benefit from participation in co-innovation networks. However, larger organizations also benefit from the challenges and the diversity found in collaborative ecosystems. In terms of research, in addition to the trend identified in previous years toward a sounder consolidation of the theoretical foundation in this discipline, there is now a direction of developments more focused on modeling and reasoning about new c- laboration patterns and their contribution to value creation. “Soft issues,” including social capital, cultural aspects, ethics and value systems, trust, emotions, behavior, etc. continue to deserve particular attention in terms of modeling and reasoning. Exploi- tion of new application domains such as health care, education, and active aging for retired professionals also help identify new research challenges, both in terms of m- eling and ICT support development.

In an era of accelerating technological complexity and societal transformation, multi-sector university–industry collaborations (UICs) have become vital arenas for co-creating and exchanging knowledge across institutional and industrial boundaries. Yet, industrial organizations often struggle to harness the full potential of such collaborations, particularly when it comes to effectively sharing, recognizing, and leveraging knowledge among diverse actors from different industries. Much of the existing research remains centered on the academic perspective of UIC, typically portraying universities as the primary source of knowledge. Such a framing tends to overlook the industrial perspective, especially the potential of industry-to-industry knowledge sharing and the perspective of firms with limited UIC experience. Furthermore, previous research has largely focused on dyadic university-industry ties and immediate project-level outcomes, with less attention to the structural, organizational, and social dynamics that support knowledge exchange across industries, and how this knowledge is later integrated within firms and diffused to the broader knowledge ecosystem. This thesis addresses these gaps by exploring how collaboration-level structures and firm-level actions influence the sharing and leveraging of knowledge within and beyond multi-sector UICs. It is based on a compilation of five empirical research articles grounded in case studies of multi-sector UIC initiatives in Sweden and Denmark, involving diverse industries, academic actors, and intermediaries. Data was collected mainly through interviews and observations. The analysis covers collaboration structures and practices, boundary-spanning roles, industrial engagement strategies, and actions related to internal knowledge dissemination. The thesis makes three key contributions. First, it identifies collaboration-level structures, both formal and informal, that support cross-industry knowledge sharing and ecosystem shaping. Second, it highlights industrial-level actions that enable deep internal knowledge integration, with attention to experience, engagement, and organizational readiness. Third, it offers a framework of pathways and antecedents to leveraging knowledge in multi-sector UICs, emphasizing the interplay of structures, social capital, and industrial engagement. These insights provide practical implications for industrial organizations, UIC managers, and policymakers aiming to foster impactful, inclusive, and sustainable collaborations. Samtidigt har industriaktörer ofta svårt att till fullo ta tillvara potentialen i dessa samarbeten, särskilt när det gäller att effektivt dela, identifiera och tillämpa kunskap mellan olika aktörer från skilda branscher. Mycket av den existerande forskningen har ett akademiskt perspektiv på UIC, där universitetet ofta framställs som den primära kunskapskällan. Ett sådant perspektiv tenderar att förbise industrins roll, särskilt potentialen i branschöverskridande kunskapsdelning samt erfarenheterna hos företag med begränsad erfarenhet av UIC. The book titled The Collaborative Economy in Action: European Perspectives is one of the important outcomes of the COST Action CA16121, From Sharing to Caring: Examining the Socio-Technical Aspects of the Collaborative Economy (short name: Sharing and Caring; sharingandcaring.eu) that was active between March 2017 and September 2021. The Action was funded by the European Cooperation in Science and Technology - COST (www.cost.eu/actions/CA16121). The main objective of the COST Action Sharing and Caring is the development of a European network of researchers and practitioners interested in investigating the collaborative economy models, platforms, and their socio-technological implications. The network involves scholars, practitioners, communities, and policymakers. The COST Action Sharing and Caring helped to connect research initiatives across Europe and enabled scientists to develop their ideas by collaborating with peers. This collaboration opportunity represented a boost for the participants' research, careers, and innovation potential. The main aim of this book is to provide a comprehensive overview of the collaborative economy (CE) in European countries with a variety of its aspects for a deeper understanding of the phenomenon as a whole. For this reason, in July 2017, an open call for country reports was distributed among the members of the COST Action Sharing and Caring. Representatives of the member countries were invited to produce short country reports covering: definition(s) of the CE; types and models of the CE; key stakeholders involved; as well as legislation and technological tools relevant for the CE. Submitted reports varied in length and regarding the level of detail included, in accordance with how much information was available in each respective country at the time of writing. Editors of the book have compiled these early reports into a summary report, which was intended as a first step in mapping the state of the CE in Europe. The Member Countries Report on the Collaborative Economy, edited by Gaia Mosconi, Agnieszka Lukasiewicz, and Gabriela Avram (2018) that was published on the Sharing and Caring website, represented its first synergetic outcome and provided an overview of the CE phenomenon as interpreted and manifested in each of the countries part of the network. Additionally, Sergio Nassare-Aznar, Kosjenka Dumančić, and Giulia Priora compiled a Preliminary Legal Analysis of Country Reports on Cases of Collaborative Economy (2018). In 2018, after undertaking an analysis of the previous reports' strengths and weaknesses, the book editors issued a call for an updated version of these country reports. Prof. Ann Light advised the editorial team, proposing a new format for country reports and 4000 words limit. The template included: Introduction, Definition, Key Questions, Examples, Illustration, Context, Developments, Issues, Other Major Players, and Relevant Literature. The new template was approved by the Management Committee in October 2018. The task force that had supported the production of the first series of country reports (Dimitar Trajanov, Maria del Mar Alonso, Bálint Balázs, Kosjenka Dumančić, and Gabriela Avram) acted as mentors for the team of authors in each country. The final reports arrived at the end of 2018, bringing the total number of submissions to 30 (twenty-nine European countries plus Georgia). A call for book editors was issued, and a new editorial team was formed by volunteers from the participants of the COST Action: Andrzej Klimczuk, Vida Česnuityte, Cristina Miguel, Santa Mijalche, Gabriela Avram, Bori Simonovits, Bálint Balázs, Kostas Stefanidis, and Rafael Laurenti. The editorial team organized the double-blind reviews of reports and communicated to the authors the requirements for improving their texts. After reviews, the authors submitted updated versions of their country reports providing up-to-date interdisciplinary analysis on the state of the CE in 2019, when the reports were collected. During the final phase, the chapters were again reviewed by the lead editors together with all editorial team members. At the time, the intention was to update these reports again just before the end of the COST Action Sharing and Caring in 2021 and to produce a third edition. However, the COVID-19 pandemic changed these plans. Thus, this final volume was created by 82 scholars-editors and contributors-and consists of reports on 27 countries participating in the COST Action.
