This tense, gripping novel set in 19C St Petersburg amid desperate revolutionaries bent on the overthrow of the Tsar 'confirms Andrew William's place in the front ranks of English thriller writers' (Daily Mail). Shortlisted for the CWA Ellis Peters and the Walter Scott Awards, To Kill a Tsar will appeal to readers of John le Carre, Robert Harris and Alan Furst. St Petersburg, 1879. A shot rings out in Palace Square. Cossack guards tackle the would-be assassin to the ground. In the mêlée no one notices a striking dark haired young woman in a heavy coat slip away from the scene. Russia is alive with revolutionaries. While Tsar Alexander II remains a virtual prisoner in his own palaces, his ruthless secret police will stop at nothing to unmask those who plot his assassination and the overthrow of the Imperial regime. For Dr Frederick Hadfield, whose medical practice is dependent on the Anglo-Russian gentry, these are dangerous times. Drawn into a desperate cat-and-mouse game of undercover assignations, plot and counter-plot, he risks all in a perilous double life. From glittering ballrooms to the cruel cells of the House of Preliminary Detention, from the grandeur of the British Embassy to the underground presses of the young revolutionaries, To Kill a Tsar is a gripping thriller set in a world of brutal contrasts in which treachery is everywhere and nothing is what it seems.

An unusual Russian police detective must stop a plot to kill the tsar in this historical thriller. Eccentric and fiercely independent Inspector Vasiliev exposes a conspiracy by a high-ranking nobleman and a top official in the secret police to assassinate the tsar in late imperial Russia. He finds unexpected help from Irina, a member of the revolutionary underground, with whom he falls in love . . . "Unique among books about Russia written by western authors: being extremely rich in details it contains no factual errors at all.” —Alexei Miller, Senior Researcher in the Institute of Scientific Information in Humanities of the Russian Academy of Sciences in Moscow “In this masterful thriller, [G.K. George] meets us at the crossroads of history and literature. He deftly portrays the tensions and dynamics of life in Imperial Russia on the eve of the assassination of Tsar Alexander II in 1881, an event that set the stage for the Russian Revolution. In the process, the author creates unforgettable characters such as Inspector Vasili Vasiliev, the Swan, and the Magician.” —Ben Eklof, Professor of History, Indiana University “A true thriller, with all the delightful trimmings of a masterful historical narrative. Alfred Rieber (alias, G.K. George) lures you into the turbulent, terrorist times of Russia in the 1880s, from glittering balls in noble palaces to mystical forests in the foothills of the Ural Mountains. Erotic rituals of a religious sect called the Jumpers come frighteningly alive in this compelling narrative that is ethnographically and historically rich with plausible detail.” —Marjorie Mandelstam Balzer, Research Professor at the Center for Eurasian, Russian and East European Studies and in the Department of Sociology and Anthropology, Georgetown University “With his unsurpassed knowledge of Russian history, [G.K. George] brings the terrorist crisis of the late 1870s and early 1880s to life in this exciting historical thriller. To Kill a Tsar traces the conspiracy that led to the assassination of Tsar Alexander II in a plot filled with surprising twists and dramatic encounters between ardent young radicals and their adversaries from the security police. Along with compelling portraits of such real-life historical figures as the ill-fated Tsar, Rieber has created a complex and appealing hero, Inspector Vasiliev. Guided by the inspector, a master of disguise, and his faithful peasant sergeant, readers meet aristocrats and beggars and travel from high society salons to the slum hideouts of thieves and revolutionaries. . . . I recommend To Kill a Tsar to all readers who love action, intrigue, and vivid characters.” —Adele Lindenmeyr, Professor of History, Villanova University

Triumph of a Tsar is a work of alternate historical fiction in which the Russian Revolution of 1917 is averted, and the hemophiliac Alexei, son of Tsar Nicholas II, comes to the throne. In August, 1920, sixteen-year-old Alexei is enjoying his birthday celebrations when Nicholas dies suddenly. Overnight, Alexei becomes tsar of an empire that covers one-sixth of the world's landmass. The Great War is over, but Russia is still suffering from the devastation and poverty that it brought. Communists such as Lenin, Stalin and Trotsky view the political situation as ripe for revolution, but they realize that the popular Alexei stands in their way. To make matters worse, Alexei's hemophilia, the disease that has threatened him his whole life, returns to haunt him. With his life in constant danger from internal threats, Alexei must also navigate the external threats of fascism and Adolph Hitler. Slowly, Hitler's menace increases throughout Europe until he tries to kill Alexei himself. Only then does Alexei realize that another World War is the only way to stop his German enemy.

Sofia Perovskaya Terrorist Princess written by Robert R. Riggs and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017 with Assassins categories.

Sofia Perovskaya personally commanded the bomb squad that killed Tsar Alexander II of Russia on March 1, 1881 (date according to the Julian calendar). This startling assassination was the culmination of acts of the self-identified terrorist faction of Russian radicals, known as Narodnaya Volya. The deadly bombing was at bottom the culmination of an exercise of Perovskaya¿s personal force and stubborn determination. Her ascetic, empathic personality, avid feminism, intelligence and drive were mixed with an irrational, suicidal streak. She was born into a wealthy and prestigious family in the upper echelon of the nobility, one with royal connections as her great-great-great uncle was the husband of Russia¿s Empress Elizabeth (ruled, 1741 - 1761). Her father was the civil governor of St. Petersburg, although, he had some issues with an inferiority complex as is detailed in original research for this book. How then did Perovskaya become a terrorist leader, eager to die for the cause of radical utopian reform of Russian society? The question is answered in this in-depth profile of an entire generation of rebellious, idealistic youth, called the Russian ¿Generation of the Sixties,¿ that in many ways resembled the American Generation of the Sixties. This book is part of a series of profiles of historical terrorists. Terrorism, as these profiles show, has deep roots in an irrational facet of the human psyche. As civilized society has moved toward pluralism and respect for human life, the terrorist act of self-immolation has grown correspondingly in its appeal to the dark side of the mind. The terrorist, contrary to belief, is not the product of any particular ideological or religious movement. He or she is more accurately understood as the product of a peculiar personality disorder, one that takes over people who are intelligent, creative, adaptive and highly motivated, and who thirst for glory, and makes them suicidal. This explains the futility, as well as the lack of effectiveness, of much of what is done in the name of the war on terrorism. The typical response to terrorism is an overreaction syndrome, which can spawn many more terrorists.

"A delicate weaving of myth and history, The Witch and the Tsar breathes new life into stories you think you know."–Hannah Whitten, New York Times bestselling author of For the Wolf In this stunning debut novel, the maligned and immortal witch of legend known as Baba Yaga will risk all to save her country and her people from Tsar Ivan the Terrible—and the dangerous gods who seek to drive the twisted hearts of men. As a half-goddess possessing magic, Yaga is used to living on her own, her prior entanglements with mortals having led to heartbreak. She mostly keeps to her hut in the woods, where those in need of healing seek her out, even as they spread rumors about her supposed cruelty and wicked spells. But when her old friend Anastasia—now the wife of the tsar, and suffering from a mysterious illness—arrives in her forest desperate for her protection, Yaga realizes the fate of all of Russia is tied to Anastasia’s. Yaga must step out of the shadows to protect the land she loves. As she travels to Moscow, Yaga witnesses a sixteenth century Russia on the brink of chaos. Tsar Ivan—soon to become Ivan the Terrible—grows more volatile and tyrannical by the day, and Yaga believes the tsaritsa is being poisoned by an unknown enemy. But what Yaga cannot know is that Ivan is being manipulated by powers far older and more fearsome than anyone can imagine. Olesya Salnikova Gilmore weaves a rich tapestry of mythology and Russian history, reclaiming and reinventing the infamous Baba Yaga, and bringing to life a vibrant and tumultuous Russia, where old gods and new tyrants vie for power. This fierce and compelling novel draws from the timeless lore to create a heroine for the modern day, fighting to save her country and those she loves from oppression while also finding her true purpose as a goddess, a witch, and a woman.
