Together on God’s Mission investigates Southern Baptist history, showing how and why the Southern Baptist Convention came to embrace the vision of a cooperative denomination. It also explores how this vision has shaped denominational identity and structure. This historical study is followed by a discussion of the biblical description of how the mission of God determines the mission of the church. This study shows that God’s mission is not simply furthered by churches working together, but rather that cooperation between churches makes up a key component of God’s mission. Finally, the study concludes that the Southern Baptist Convention is uniquely positioned to enable churches to fully participate in God’s mission to redeem the nations and restore creation from the effects of the Fall.

The true story of mission has been deeper, wider, and far more diverse than many Christians in countries with long histories of church presence have realized. The authors in Reflecting God’s Glory Together: Diversity in Evangelical Mission drive that point home in a variety of ways. From Filipino and Ghanaian missionary work in North American cities, to Canadian work among the Chinese diaspora, to African-American work in Zimbabwe, the authors help us begin to grasp just how many ways evangelicals in mission are truly going from and coming to everywhere as they follow Christ’s mandate to reach the nations. Diverse voices utilizing diverse strategies pursuing a common call: these result in a mosaic whose larger pattern glorifies the God who came to live among us—and who continues to send us out in the pattern God so clearly established. As editors, Beth and Scott invite you to explore the stories embedded in that marvelous mosaic that we have been privileged to collect for this volume.

The Heart Of Church And Mission written by Bryan Knell and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2015-08-06 with Religion categories.

This book brings together a passion for the church and a passion for global mission. It looks at the heart of the UK church, asking whether and how it beats for mission and explores the passion of the mission community, and asks how it involves the local church. You might be forgiven for expecting that the heart of church and the heart of mission would be interwoven and closely linked together, but that has not been the case. Two significant historical events continue to shape the church and mission in the Western World. Christendom removed mission from the church and the launch of the missionary societies disengaged the local church from mission. Although there is plenty of talk of change, the dominant mind-set is still shaped by these events. Practical suggestions are directed at churches and agencies with the aim of re-establishing, Mission at the heart of the church and the church at the heart of mission. The world is a different place to when the "modern" Western mission movement developed. Yet many of the same structures exist today, in both churches and mission agencies. The church in the West needs to engage in new and appropriate ways in the world, building on history but not being bound by it. Bryan's prophetic call is to new ways of thinking, new attitudes and clear Biblical principles and deserves a wide audience. The Global Church deserves no less than a fresh approach to obeying His command to join together in God's mission in His world. Martin Lee, Executive Director, Global Connections, UK Bryan Knell has been involved with mission for over 40 years. Firstly, in the International Student world with UCCF and then, following some theological study, Bryan was the UK Director of Arab World Ministries for 16 years and the Founding Coordinator of CRIB (Christian Responses to Islam in Britain) for 15 years. More recently, he has worked for Global Connections as the Church Relations Director and is still involved in ministry to Muslims in the UK.

Many churches are facing declining membership and resources to fulfill their mission and are at a loss as to what they can do to remain a vital ministry in their community. This book explains two options, that if done well can breathe new life into those once dying congregations. Merging or consolidating with other congregations is a wonderful way to grow and enhance ministry. While some churches decide to use all their money and resources until they close, I believe that merging or consolidating with other churches reflects better stewardship than burning through your money until you close. In this book I tell the story how United Lutheran Church was born out of a consolidation of 3 congregations who were all at risk of closing. We realized that we could be better together and use our assets for mission and ministry. While this book is not a "how to" step by step manual; it explains how we went through this process and why congregations might choose to come together to in order to continue fulfilling God's mission in your community. By sharing our story I hope it gives you examples of how your congregation may consolidate or merger with another congregation. This book is all about mission, about doing ministry. It is NOT about merely surviving as a congregation.

This book argues that God's mission is broad and that all of us can live with missional intentionality by understanding the many facets of missions and focusing on a particular calling. Just like different instruments of a symphony harmonize together, each aspect of human participation in mission--evangelism, justice initiatives, poverty alleviation, faithful work in the marketplace, art--helps us play our part in God's work in the world. Combining expertise from a mission scholar and a working pastor, the book includes practical examples and tools to help readers imagine their part in God's mission.
