Together on God’s Mission investigates Southern Baptist history, showing how and why the Southern Baptist Convention came to embrace the vision of a cooperative denomination. It also explores how this vision has shaped denominational identity and structure. This historical study is followed by a discussion of the biblical description of how the mission of God determines the mission of the church. This study shows that God’s mission is not simply furthered by churches working together, but rather that cooperation between churches makes up a key component of God’s mission. Finally, the study concludes that the Southern Baptist Convention is uniquely positioned to enable churches to fully participate in God’s mission to redeem the nations and restore creation from the effects of the Fall.

This book brings together a passion for the church and a passion for global mission. It looks at the heart of the UK church, asking whether and how it beats for mission and explores the passion of the mission community, and asks how it involves the local church. Christendom removed mission from the church and the launch of the missionary societies disengaged the local church from mission. We realized that we could be better together and use our assets for mission and ministry. While this book is not a "how to" step by step manual; it explains how we went through this process and why congregations might choose to come together to in order to continue fulfilling God's mission in your community. By sharing our story I hope it gives you examples of how your congregation may consolidate or merger with another congregation. This book is all about mission, about doing ministry. It is NOT about merely surviving as a congregation.
