In 1922, at just 20 years of age, farm boy Carl Rogers embarked on a journey halfway around the world. The China Diaries provides an intimate portrait of a young man exploring his faith, his purpose, and his personhood. Situated during the Chinese Civil War that birthed the Communist Party, The China Diaries also provides insight into the benevolent, yet at times ugly, history of Christian and Western influence in East Asia, the global YMCA movement at its apex, and Nobel Peace Prize winner and traveling companion, John R. Mott. For the life of me, I can't realize that I am really off for six months of high adventure, with great experiences, and tremendous opportunities ahead of me. I can't help but wonder how much the trip will change me, and whether the Carl Rogers that comes back will be more than a speaking acquaintance of the Carl Rogers that is going out. As long as I have a will of my own, I guess it is up to me whether the trip changes me for better or for worse. Complete with maps, photographs, historical context, phenomenological analysis, and a Forward by his daughter, Natalie, The China Diaries provides a window into the origins of Carl, the person, and Rogers, the founder of person-centered therapy.

RongRong's Diary: Beijing East Village presents a selection of images and diary entries made by Chinese photographer RongRong (born 1968) between 1993 and 1998, within the artistic community known as Beijing East Village--now poignantly described as "a meteor in the history of contemporary Chinese art." RongRong's acutely composed, richly expressive images captured scenes of daily life among fellow young, aspiring artists, and created definitive documents of iconic performance works by Zhang Huan and Ma Liuming, among others. Often highly challenging works, their performances and photographs would send an instant shockwave throughout the Chinese avant-garde, and later the global art scene. Revisiting these texts and images anew for this publication, RongRong has composed a personal narrative of an artist coming into his own. Beijing East Village also serves as an invaluable firsthand record of a burgeoning artistic community, its precarious political context and the real lives behind a pivotal moment in Chinese contemporary art.

The Hostage Handbook written by Anthony Grey and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2009-11 with British categories.

The Thoughts of Chairman Grey present the highly charge verbatim transcription of the text of the author?s secret shorthand diaries which he wrote and kept hidden during his period of two years and two months solitary confinement as a hostage in China. The reader receives a powerful sense of feeling what it was like, moment by moment, to be held hostage in isolation in a hostile land. He says he now sees the two harrowing years held in a slogan daubed house in the heart of Beijing as ? a huge delayed action privilege? and realises, more than three decades later, how the insights provided by that experience - and the very act of keeping those secret diaries themselves - helped shape his life positively after his release. He has been an avid journal keeper ever since and in an accompanying commentary he extols the virtues of that reflective discipline.
