Que ya no vendría de ningún exterior, sino del efectivo cumplimiento de lo peor de nosotros mismos. Los autores analizan desde puntos de vista de la filosofía política y social moderna y contemporánea las profundas paradojas que plantea el ideal de tolerancia, asociado a la pretensión universal de libertad e igualdad. Una verdadera convivencia universal entre «buenos vecinos» requiere una radicalización, pero también una diferenciación de los planteamientos. La creciente complejidad de la vida en las grandes urbes, que se han convertido en el entorno humano natural, exige enjuiciamientos y decisiones bien contextualizados y operativos. Para seguir avanzando en el proyecto ilustrado de una convivencia planetaria civilizada queda mucho por hacer.
