Aus der Einleitung: Wir brauchen eine neue weltpolitische Konstellation, in der die Macht nach neuen Verhältnissen auszurichten ist. China steigt als wirtschaftliche Supermacht auf, Russland besinnt sich und stellt sich militärisch hinter China, und der Iran als das Land mit dem größten Gasvorkommen der Welt mit seiner Führungsposition in der Region bilden ein Dreieck der Macht, das erfordert, dem westlichen Unilateralismus ein Ende zu bereiten. Der Säkularismus hat seine Möglichkeiten, eine dialogische Demokratisierung in der Welt herbeizuführen, verspielt. Die Spanne der Gewalt erstreckt sich vom 18. Jahrhundert bis zur Post-Postmoderne. Alle Ziele in diesem Zeitraum wurden und werden durch militärische und wirtschaftliche Gewalt errungen. Diese immanente Ideologie des Säkularismus ist unerträglich und teilweise menschenverachtend, weil jener sich zu sich selbst kannibalistisch verhält. Er steht – seit Bonhoeffer und anderen vom deskriptiven Befund der Säkularisierung zu unterscheiden Strömungen – im Zentrum der liberalistischen bzw. neoliberalistischen politischen Leitideologie im 21. Jahrhundert. Im Kern geht es um eine strikte Trennung zwischen Staat und Religion, die sich oft militant gegenüber anderen Staatsformen ins Verhältnis setzt. Dem Säkularismus ist ein Wahrheits- und Alleingeltungsanspruch inhärent, der sich jederzeit zu verabsolutieren sucht.

Toleration and Tolerance in Medieval European Literature aims to examine and unearth the critical investigations of toleration and tolerance presented in literary texts of the Middle Ages. In contrast to previous approaches, this volume identifies new methods of interpreting conventional classifications of toleration and tolerance through the emergence of multi-level voices in literary, religious, and philosophical discourses of authorities in medieval literature. Accordingly, this volume identifies two separate definitions of toleration and tolerance, the former as a representative of a majority group accepts a member of the minority group but still holds firmly to the believe that s/he is right and the other entirely wrong, and tolerance meaning that all faiths, convictions, and ideologies are treated equally, and the majority speaker is ready to accept that potentially his/her position is wrong. Applying these distinct differences in the critical investigation of interaction and representation in context, this book offers new insight into the tolerant attitudes portrayed in medieval literature of which regularly appealed, influenced and shaped popular opinions of the period.

Islamic theology had to wait a long time before being granted a place in the European universities. That happened above all in German-speaking areas, and this led to the development of new theological and religious pedagogical approaches. The primary focus is on contemporary challenges and possible answers from the perspective of Islamic theology and religious pedagogy. Michael Oakshott described conservatism as a non-ideological preference for the familiar, tried, actual, limited, near, sufficient, convenient and present. Historically, conservatives have been associated with attempts to sustain social harmony between classes and groups within an organic, hierarchical order grounded in collective history and cultural values. Yet, in recent decades, conservatism throughout the English-speaking world has been associated with radical social and economic policy, often championing free-market models which substitute the free movement of labour and forms of competition and social mobility for organic hierarchy and noblesse oblige. The radical changes associated with such policies call into question the extent to which contemporary conservatism is conservative, rather than ideological.
