Teaching The Latin American Boom written by Lucille Kerr and has been published by Modern Language Association this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2015-08-01 with Language Arts & Disciplines categories.

In the decade from the early 1960s to the early 1970s, Latin American authors found themselves writing for a new audience in both Latin America and Spain and in an ideologically charged climate as the Cold War found another focus in the Cuban Revolution. The writers who emerged in this energized cultural moment--among others, Julio Cortázar (Argentina), Guillermo Cabrera Infante (Cuba), José Donoso (Chile), Carlos Fuentes (Mexico), Gabriel García Márquez (Colombia), Manuel Puig (Argentina), and Mario Varas Llosa (Peru)--experimented with narrative forms that sometimes bore a vexed relation to the changing political situations of Latin America. This volume provides a wide range of options for teaching the complexities of the Boom, explores the influence of Boom works and authors, presents different frameworks for thinking about the Boom, proposes ways to approach it in the classroom, and provides resources for selecting materials for courses.

States Of Grace written by Patrícia I. Vieira and has been published by SUNY Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2018-04-01 with Literary Criticism categories.

Provides in-depth analyses of key moments in Brazilian utopianism, including theological-political, matriarchal, environmental, and work-free utopias. States of Grace offers a novel approach to the study of Brazilian culture through the lens of utopianism. Patrícia I. Vieira explores religious and political writings, journalistic texts, sociological studies, and literary works that portray Brazil as a utopian “land of the future,” where dreams of a coming messianic age and of social and political emancipation would come true. The book discusses crucial utopian moments such as the theological-political utopia proposed by Jesuit Priest Antônio Vieira; matriarchal utopias, like the egalitarian society of the Amazons; work-free utopias that abolished the boundaries separating toil and play; and ecological utopias, where humans and nonhumans coexist harmoniously. The uniqueness of the book’s approach lies in rethinking the link between messianic and utopian texts, as well as the alliances forged between progressive religious, socioeconomic, political, and ecological ideas.

Festina Lente Make Haste Slowly written by Ana Cristina Leonardos and has been published by Editora Autografia this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021-12-01 with Psychology categories.

Not all hurry leads to hastiness. Not all slowness is synonymous with tardiness. Because of all the hustle and bustle, sometimes we pass through life without even looking it in the face. And sometimes if we don’t hurry we let life pass by, and we get stuck on the treadmill, among abandoned dreams, renounced potential, desires swallowed by time. It’s what Ana Cristina Leonardos and Martha Estima Scodro show with great sensitivity in Festina Lente — Make Haste Slowly. More than crafting a beautiful study of the female soul, Martha and Ana Cristina reveal here that which is most human on the surface of finiteness, in the construction of identities, and in the transience of feelings. With provocations that generate conversations, and conversations that generate still more provocations, Ana Cristina and Martha invite their interviewees to dive into a delicate process of intimate excavation, and they inquire of them: “What is the most important question you have asked yourself over the last year, and why is it important?”. Inspired by this and other doubts of growing importance, the authors move through desires, fears, guilt, and obligations that fill the thoughts of these women. Thus, Ana Cristina Leonardos and Martha Estima Scodro have written a book that is critically urgent, and they open windows that give us glimpses of amazing discoveries, dormant vigor, unspeakable losses, delays transformed into steps, and invitations to soar amongst our widest horizons within. The Aesthetic Clinic written by Fernanda Negrete and has been published by State University of New York Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020-10-01 with Philosophy categories.

In The Aesthetic Clinic, Fernanda Negrete brings together contemporary women writers and artists well known for their formal experimentation—Louise Bourgeois, Sophie Calle, Lygia Clark, Marguerite Duras, Roni Horn, and Clarice Lispector—to argue that the aesthetic experiences afforded by their work are underwritten by a tenacious and uniquely feminine ethics of desire. To elaborate this ethics, Negrete looks to notions of sublimation and feminine sexuality developed by Freud, Baudelaire, Mallarmé, and Nietzsche, and their reinvention with and after Jacques Lacan, including in the schizoanalysis of Gilles Deleuze and Félix Guattari. But she also highlights how psychoanalytic theory draws on writing and other creative practices to conceive of unconscious processes and the transformation sought through analysis. Thus, the "aesthetic clinic" of the book's title (a term Negrete adopts from Deleuze) is not an applied psychoanalysis or schizoanalysis. Rather, The Aesthetic Clinic privileges the call and constraints issued by each woman's individual work. Engaging an artwork here is less about retrieving a hidden meaning through interpretation than about receiving a precise transmission of sensation, a jouissance irreducible to meaning. Not only do art and literature serve an urgent clinical function in Negrete's reading but sublimation itself requires an embrace of femininity.
