Too Small to Ignore will encourage you to turn your good, loving intentions into strategic actions and empower you to help change the world–and the future–forever, one child at a time. The time has come for a major paradigm shift: Children are too important and too intensely loved by God to be left behind or left to chance. Children belong to all of us and we are compelled to intervene on their behalf. We must invest in children all across the world. In Too Small to Ignore, Dr. Stafford issues an urgent call for change. His adventures as a boy raised in a West African village provide an often-humorous and always-captivating backdrop to his profound and inspiring challenges. Wess lived the reality of “it takes a village to raise a child” and calls us to “be that loving village for children everywhere.”

The time has come, argues Dr. Wess Stafford, for a major paradigm shift: Children are too important and too intensely loved by God to be left behind or left to chance. Children belong to all of us and we are compelled to intervene on their behalf. We must invest in children–all across the world. There are strategic, persuasive reasons–beyond love and kindness–to invest in children. Today they may snuggle into your lap, if you let them. But tomorrow you may not have access to them in the corridors of power they might occupy. Now is the time to shape the future. Dr. Stafford issues an urgent call for change. His adventures as a boy raised in a West African village provide an often-humorous and always-captivating backdrop to his profound and inspiring challenges. Wess lived the reality of “it takes a village to raise a child” and calls us to “be that loving village for children everywhere.” This book will encourage you to turn your good, loving intentions into strategic actions and empower you to help change the world–and the future–forever: one child at a time.

Modern Classical Optics written by Geoffrey Brooker and has been published by Oxford University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2003-07-24 with Science categories.

The book gives accounts of non-quantum optical phenomena and of instruments and technology based on them, at a level suitable for the last two years of an honours degree in physics and for graduates starting out. Topics covered include the conventional (diffraction, coherence, thin films, holography...) but also the less conventional (étendue, Gaussian beams, laser cavities, cd reader, confocal microscope...) which belong in today's university courses, for example, to support laser physics. Even the conventional material has frequently been given a fresh presentation by giving a tidier-than-usual route through a calculation, or finding insightful connections with other parts of physics, or simply avoiding common errors. Problems offer opportunities for checking the reader's basic understanding, or for taking a careful route through reasoning, or for checking orders of magnitude. But most problems contain exploratory and critical material: investigating possible alternative approaches, asking searching questions about fundamentals, or solving apparent paradoxes.

Elderly Lives Matter Too written by John C. Walshe and has been published by iUniverse this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2022-03-07 with Biography & Autobiography categories.

One of the main points of this book is to question should we incarcerate the elderly especially who suffer from a mental illness? If we incarcerate the elderly how should they be treated? Our prisons are full of elderly people who have suffered a mental breakdown and are presently suffering from a mental illness. Also can we treat a 70-year-old as we do a 20-year-old while incarcerated? The obvious answer to that question is no but yet we do treat them the same. I wish to demonstrate that incarceration time for the elderly is much worse than it is for the young or middle age and even worse yet for the mentally ill. This should be taken into consideration when prosecuting and sentencing the elderly or mentally ill. Can you treat a mentally ill person the same as a person who is not suffering from a mental illness? I would like to believe that most Americans would answer the previous two question with a big “No” Yes, I will agree there are a minority who are still so dangerous to their fellow man even at a late age that they have to be incarcerated but again I believe it is a small minority. How should we treat elderly who have mental breakdowns as so many will? In the United States if a person has a mental breakdown they are three times as likely to wind up in a prison than an appropriate hospital or mental institution. Should our prisons be filled with the mentally ill as they now are? The older we get the more susceptible we are to a mental breakdown as the incidence of dementia substantiates. As an example consider how vulnerable the elderly are to Alzheimer’s disease the largest form of dementia as we age. The incidence of Alzheimer’s disease is 17% for the age group of 65 to 74 years and 47% for 75 to 84 years. It almost triples in just a decade. Before we prosecute do we make the proper effort to diagnose to find out why the elderly and people as a whole commit crimes? In my case why does a man in his so-called golden years become a criminal after living a productive, law abiding and good life? Did I just repress my criminal instincts and desires for six decades or did I repress my feelings from traumatic events which could lead to mental illness?

The Black Lives Matter movement evolved as a protest against police brutality against unarmed black men. This book extends beyond police brutality to revolutionize the national conversation about racial injustice and inequality and advocate for freedom and justice for all black Americans. We are the voices for equality. Recognizing that the fight for social justice and equality is bigger than any one person and that there is room for diverse talents and expertise of anyone who is committed to freedom, this multicontributor anthology addresses a range of hot-button issues and racial disparities that disproportionately impact the black community. This is a call to action that will challenge you to confront your long-held values and beliefs about black lives and confront your own white privilege and fragility as you examine racial justice and equality in a revolutionary way.

Gravity A Very Short Introduction written by Timothy Clifton and has been published by Oxford University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017-02-10 with Science categories.

Gravity is one of the four fundamental interactions that exist in nature. It also has the distinction of being the oldest, weakest, and most difficult force to quantize. Understanding gravity is not only essential for understanding the motion of objects on Earth, but also the motion of all celestial objects, and even the expansion of the Universe itself. It was the study of gravity that led Einstein to his profound realisations about the nature of space and time. Gravity is not only universal, it is also essential for understanding the behaviour of the Universe, and all astrophysical bodies within it. In this Very Short Introduction Timothy Clifton looks at the development of our understanding of gravity since the early observations of Kepler and Newtonian theory. He discusses Einstein's theory of gravity, which now supplants Newton's, showing how it allows us to understand why the frequency of light changes as it passes through a gravitational field, why GPS satellites need their clocks corrected as they orbit the Earth, and why the orbits of distant neutron stars speed up. Today, almost 100 years after Einstein published his theory of gravity, we have even detected the waves of gravitational radiation that he predicted. Clifton concludes by considering the testing and application of general relativity in astrophysics and cosmology, and looks at dark energy and efforts such as string theory to combine gravity with quantum mechanics. ABOUT THE SERIES: The Very Short Introductions series from Oxford University Press contains hundreds of titles in almost every subject area. These pocket-sized books are the perfect way to get ahead in a new subject quickly. Our expert authors combine facts, analysis, perspective, new ideas, and enthusiasm to make interesting and challenging topics highly readable.
