This volume addresses trauma not only from a theoretical, descriptive and therapeutic perspective, but also through the survivor as narrator, meaning maker, and presenter. By conceptualising different outlooks on trauma, exploring transfigurations in writing and art, and engaging trauma through scriptotherapy, dharma art, autoethnography, photovoice and choreography, the interdisciplinary dialogue highlights the need for rethinking and re-examining trauma, as classical treatments geared towards healing do not recognise the potential for transfiguration inherent in the trauma itself. The investigation of the fissures, disruptions and shifts after punctual traumatic events or prolonged exposure to verbal and physical abuse, illness, war, captivity, incarceration, and chemical exposure, amongst others, leads to a new understanding of the transformed self and empowering post-traumatic developments. Contributors are Peter Bray, Francesca Brencio, Mark Callaghan, M. Candace Christensen, Diedra L. Clay, Leanne Dodd, Marie France Forcier, Gen’ichiro Itakura, Jacqueline Linder, Elwin Susan John, Kori D. Novak, Cassie Pedersen, Danielle Schaub, Nicholas Quin Serenati, Aslı Tekinay, Tony M. Catastrophic Grief Trauma And Resilience In Child Concentration Camp Survivors written by Tracey Rori Farber and has been published by Academic Studies PRess this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2023-06-20 with History categories.
This volume comprehensively explores the life trajectories of nine child/adolescent Holocaust concentration camp survivors as recollected when the subjects were elders. Based on extensive face to face interview material, enduring psychological and symptomatic effects were evident. Survivors retained vivid recollections of the horror of internment and expressed ongoing grief for the multiple losses they had experienced. Unresolved grief contributed to a sense of existential loneliness, particularly prominent in their late life reflections. Despite indications of resilience and life productivity, a ‘Trauma Trilogy’ of inter-linked catastrophic grief, anger, and survivor guilt contributed to a sense of pain and struggle in negotiating Erikson’s final life task of Integrity versus Despair.

This volume addresses cultural and literary narratives of trauma in South Asian literature. Presenting a novel cross-cultural perspective on trauma theory, the essays within this volume study the divergent cultural responses to trauma and violence in various parts of South Asia, including Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Nepal, and Afghanistan, which have received little attention in literary writings on trauma in their specific circumstances. Through comprehensive sociocultural understanding of the region, this book creates an approachable space where trauma engages with themes like racial identity, ethnicity, nationality, religious dogma, and cultural environment. With case studies from Kashmir, the 1971 liberation war of Bangladesh, and armed conflict in Nepal and Afghanistan, the volume will be of interest to scholars, students and researchers of literature, history, politics, conflict studies, and South Asian studies.

Global Literatures and Cultures of Modernity: Critical Perspectives from India brings together essays written by academicians and scholars from India to scrutinize how global modernities have been shaped since World War II, from the Indian perspective. It examines the literary musings of Anglophone writers hailing from various parts of the globe whose diverse voices present compelling narratives on modernity vis-à-vis the human condition. This volume brings together critical essays on writers such as Girish Karnad, Anita Desai, Anita Nair, and Jean Arasanayagam to examine the South Asian experience; by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie and Naguib Mahfouz to explore the African and Arabic world order; by Jane Harrison and Wesley Enoch to address the Australian aboriginal condition; by William Golding, Kazuo Ishiguro, and Sarah Kane to scrutinize British cultural politics; by Jamaica Kincaid and Elizabeth Acevedo to highlight Latin American and Caribbean modernity, and last but not the least, by John Updike, Cormac McCarthy, and Mary Gordon to analyze North American politico-religious experiences of modernity. The diverse themes in this book therefore touch upon historical trauma, religious revisioning, masculinity, feminist debates, gender studies, ethnic discrimination and diversity, and caste and class politics, among many others. The book’s varied themes are united by the fact that they all converse with global and transnational dynamics shaped by post-war modernity that define our world today. The book crafts narratives on contemporary global literatures and the modern conditions they represent and does so from the vantage point of postmillennial Indian literary scholarship.

Drawing on archival research, oral history collection, and textual and critical analysis, the book endeavours to reconstruct Indian experiences in all their richness and diversity, while challenging dominant paradigms and expanding the boundaries of collective memory. Creativity and Sociology: Doing Social Research with and on Artistic Sources explores the relationship between artistic and sociological narratives, considering the ways in which artistic narratives in their different forms can be both subjects of sociological observation and tools for the sociological analysis of reality. Thematically divided into sections that focus on “doing sociology on art” ’ and “doing sociology with art”, it observes the major forms of art – including literature, music, theatre, painting, photography, cinematography, and interactive arts such as videogames – examining each as objects and instruments of sociological analysis: as narratives that can offer new perspectives on the world. Bringing together under a single epistemological framework area of research that frequently remains separate, or beyond sociological framing, this book will appeal to scholars of sociology, social theory, and social science methodology with interests in media and artistic narratives.

Strained Peace Northern Ireland From Good Friday To Brexit written by Amanda Hall and has been published by Liverpool University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2024-09-30 with Political Science categories.
As the United Kingdom continues to grapple with the aftermath of Brexit, one corner of the Union has remained caught in the crosshairs. Northern Ireland has been the subject of renewed scrutiny since 2016, as efforts to leave the European Union come up against the terms of the Good Friday Agreement and threaten the region’s hard-won peace. The reasons for these challenges can be traced back to the Agreement itself, as the negotiated settlement and its immediate aftermath set in place a strained peace. This book examines the function – and dysfunction – of peace after 1998 to explain why its endurance cannot be taken for granted. Strained peace stands apart from the traditional peace/violence binary. Structures of conflict and patterns of division are reiterated in the structures of peace. Tensions might relax just as they might be inflamed by new challenges, but the threat of a return to violence is never fully gone. This book explores how such a condition developed between Good Friday and Brexit, addressing variations in the quality of peace in the insecurity of official structures at Stormont, the shifting role of community groups and the third sector, and the adaptation of culture as a “culture war” replaced physical violence on the streets.

Between Unknown Change And Familiar Retreat written by Robert Waska and has been published by BRILL this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017-11-13 with Psychology categories.
The theme of Dr. Robert Waska’s new book involves how all patients, whether neurotic, borderline, or psychotic, want their problems to ease and their stress to stop but unconsciously they avoid any real psychological change. They strive to maintain their psychic equilibrium regardless of how destructive it may be, in an effort to avoid the loss of what is known and to avoid the unknown pain or punishment that change might bring. Each chapter provides the reader with a contemporary Kleinian focus on central theoretical and clinical concepts such as projective identification, enactment, transference, pathological organizations, and depressive or paranoid acting out. The reader then is shown the careful and thoughtful interpretive work necessary in these complex clinical situations.
