In this PhD a method was developed to identify systematic patterns of change in visual attention allocation (change patterns). The change patterns were then integrated into the Functional Resonance Analysis Method (FRAM) for the generation of models of work-as-done. The change patterns were validated against known changes in visual attention allocation due to shifts in functions of work-as-done in several eye-tracking studies: three simulator studies, one field study and one experimental study. In total approx. 50 hours of eye-tracking data was analyzed. The results of the method were validated quantitatively and qualitatively. In the quantitative validation, the changes in visual attention allocation due to changes in functions were covered with a mean deviation of approx. 13 seconds averaged over all datasets (2% deviation relative to the recording lengths). In the qualitative validation, the change patterns produced were found to be plausible for the evaluated studies. Finally, it was demonstrated how the change patterns can be integrated into FRAM and potentially contribute to the understanding of emergent effects in industries with high levels of automation.

As the title suggests, and unlike other existing books on sleep medicine, Neuroendocrine Correlates of Sleep/Wakefulness will be devoted primarily to endocrine regulation of the behavioral state control. It will address a wide spectrum of sleep./wakefulness phenomena (both animals and humans), including pathogenesis, diagnosis, and management. From molecular biology to applied clinical therapy, sleep research has been transformed in the last few years from a research backwater to an important interdisciplinary field. This publication contains proceedings of the 32nd Biennial Session of the International Committee for Animal Recording (ICAR) held 14-19 May 2000, Bled, Slovenia. It contains scientific contributions focused on improvements in the quality of existing recording practices, on the use of records for breeding and management purposes and on new technologies for enlarging animal recording to cover more species and more economic important traits. Experiences in recording in automatic milking systems, beef recording, recording of sheep, goat and buffalo milk and genetic evaluation for additional traits are presented in these proceedings. Papers on new methods of animal identification, milk analysis for management purposes, including pregnancy tests, and possible developments of records in new fields such as indicators of the status of the farming operations show the direction of further research work. The exchange of experiences in managing a recording business and in the marketing and promotion of recordings illustrate ways and means of how to provide adequate services to clients by enlarging the scope of recording practices as well as by offering to farmers additional information for farm management purposes. Two international workshops followed: one on recording for improved breeding and management of buffalo and the second one on the role of the state and breeders' associations in animal identification and recording in CEE countries. The proceedings of both workshops will be published separately as special ICAR publications. The reports presented by the three sub-committees, the working groups and the development task force illustrate the general trend towards the quality and standards of the process of animal recording approval as a whole.
