Totuus teki vapaaksi on kolmiosainen dokumentti jälleenrakennusajan maalaistytöstä, josta tuli kristittyjen homoseksuaalien esitaistelija. Uskovaisen kodin tyttärellä Ritva Kurjella oli rakkaustarina toisen tytön kanssa. Kirjeisiin ja päiväkirjaan hän purki salaiset tuskat ja ilot. Vasta 60-luvulla Ritva ymmärsi ja hyväksyi olevansa lesbo. Kirjeiden ja päiväkirjojen pohjalta hän kirjoitti nuoruusvuosiensa elämäkerran Puu ei kaatunut. Nouse, ole kirkas on edelläkävijän raportti taisteluvuosilta 1979-2002. Homoseksuaalisuus oli kirkossa ja useimpien uskovaisten mielessä synti. Moni homo joutui elämään kaksoiselämää. Ritvan päiväkirjamerkinnät kertovat kristillisen piirin, Malkuksen, perustamisesta homoseksuaaleille. Ritvan kasvot ja yksityisyys menivät, kun hän puolusti kristittyjen homojen oikeuksia mediassa, kirkon toimikunnissa ja omassa lähipiirissään. Päiväkirja kertoo kohtaamisista kristillisen elämän eri puolilla: piispoista, rivikristityistä, TV- ja lehtihaastatteluista, ahdistuneiden homojen puheluista. Kirjan kolmas osio on Setan entisen puheenjohtajan, toimittaja Jorma Hentilän kirjoittama artikkeli. Hentilä tarkastelee Ritvan edelläkävijyyden merkitystä koko sateenkaariväen näkökulmasta. [Elib].

As a meaningful manifestation of how institutionalized the discipline has become, the new Handbook of Translation Studies is most welcome. Moreover, The HTS offers added value. First of all, it is the first Handbook with this scope in Translation Studies that has both a print edition and an online version. The advantages of an online version are obvious: it is more flexible and accessible, and in addition, the entries can be regularly revised and updated. The Handbook is variously searchable: by article, by author, by subject. A second benefit is the interconnection with the selection and organization principles of the online Translation Studies Bibliography (TSB). The taxonomy of the TSB has been partly applied to the selection of entries for the HTS. Moreover, many items in the reference lists are hyperlinked to the TSB, where the user can find an abstract of a publication. All articles (between 500 and 6000 words) are written by specialists in the different subfields and are peer-reviewed. Last but not least, the usability, accessibility and flexibility of the HTS depend on the commitment of people who agree that Translation Studies does matter. Theodor Adorno once wrote an essay to "defend Bach against his devotees." In this book Dana Villa does the same for Hannah Arendt, whose sweeping reconceptualization of the nature and value of political action, he argues, has been covered over and domesticated by admirers (including critical theorists, communitarians, and participatory democrats) who had hoped to enlist her in their less radical philosophical or political projects. Against the prevailing "Aristotelian" interpretation of her work, Villa explores Arendt's modernity, and indeed her postmodernity, through the Heideggerian and Nietzschean theme of a break with tradition at the closure of metaphysics. Villa's book, however, is much more than a mere correction of misinterpretations of a major thinker's work. Rather, he makes a persuasive case for Arendt as the postmodern or postmetaphysical political theorist, the first political theorist to think through the nature of political action after Nietzsche's exposition of the death of God (i.e., the collapse of objective correlates to our ideals, ends, and purposes). After giving an account of Arendt's theory of action and Heidegger's influence on it, Villa shows how Arendt did justice to the Heideggerian and Nietzschean criticism of the metaphysical tradition while avoiding the political conclusions they drew from their critiques. The result is a wide-ranging discussion not only of Arendt and Heidegger, but of Aristotle, Kant, Nietzsche, Habermas, and the entire question of politics after metaphysics.
