Cultural/heritage tourism is the fastest growing segment of the tourism industry because there is a trend toward an increased specialization among tourists. This trend is evident in the rise in the volume of tourists who seek adventure, culture, history, archaeology and interaction with local people (Hollinshead, 1993). Especially, Americans' interest in traveling to cultural/ heritage destinations has increased recently and is expected to continue. For example, cultural/heritage sites are among the most preferred tourism experiences in America. (Virginia Department of Historic Resources, 1998) The recent studies about cultural/heritage tourism focused on the characteristics of tourists who visited cultural/heritage destinations. The study attempts to investigate the relationship between cultural/heritage destination attributes and tourist satisfaction, and to identify the relationship between cultural/heritage destination attributes and tourist satisfaction in terms of selected tourists' demographic characteristics and travel behavior characteristics. The expectancy-disconfirmation theory provided a conceptual framework for this study. The expectancy-disconfirmation theory holds that consumers first form expectations of products or service performance prior to purchasing or use. Subsequently, purchasing and use convey to the consumer beliefs about the actual or perceived performance of the product(s) or service(s).

Cultural heritage tourism has a number of objectives that must be met within the context of sustainable development such as; the conservation of cultural resources, accurate interpretation of resources, authentic visitors experience, and the stimulation of the earned revenues of cultural resources. Tourism is an important issue at world heritage sites. Most managers at natural sites regard it as a key issue. Heritage tourism is tied to myth making and stories; creative content that can be shared, stored, combined and manipulated, but that depends on a unique cultural or natural history. A significant section of the wider phenomenon that is cultural tourism, heritage tourism is a demand-driven industry that continues to be a subject of heated debate in academic circles. Beginning with an overview of the subject, this book considers the conservation and revitalization of heritage destinations, as well as the role local communities have in supporting an attraction. It then discusses product development and communication around the world, using new techniques such as social media and examples from food tourism and sporting events, before a final section reviews the planning and institutionalisation of heritage spaces. A timely conclusion subsequently considers the implications of developments such as globalisation, technological improvement and climate change upon these unique destinations. A valuable addition to the literature, this book is the first to bridge the gap between theory and practice, including the latest research and international case studies for researchers and practitioners in tourism and destination management.

In the highly competitive tourism industry, improving service quality to gain competitive advantages is one of the keys to sustainable management of tourism destination. Tourist satisfaction is recognized as one of the key judgments that tourists use to measure tourism service, while future behavior intentions are very closely connected with satisfaction. The expression of satisfaction will result in behavioral responses to recommend, say positive things about and revisit the destinations. Research is conducted by examined the influence of service quality and tourist satisfaction on the future behavioral intentions of domestic local tourists in Borobudur Temple, Magelang using SERVQUAL model and analyzed with multiple regression analysis. The model was successfully tested using data collected from 200 local tourists from 28-31 May 2012. It is expected that such studies would eventually revealed the level of tourist satisfaction on service quality as well as the predicted future behavioral intentions such as recommend, say positive things and revisit the destination on local domestic tourist perspective. The results also expected to provide a guideline for Borobudur Temple Management to be able to retain the quality of service that is considered very satisfactory by the tourists and will improve the quality of services that are deemed unsatisfactory by the tourists, in relation to the development of Indonesia culture heritage destination.

According to the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), international tourists engaging in cultural activities accounted for more than 500 million of international tourist numbers in 2017. City tourism relies on culture as a major product, providing benefits not only for interested visitors, but also for the local resident population. New trends in tourism include "experiential tourism", where the interactions between tourists and residents become a key part of the tourism experience and overall customer satisfaction. New technologies and IT applications allow tourists to design their own trip, given the presence of global companies like Trip Advisor, Booking.com and AirBnB. This comprehensive volume explores new trends in cultural tourism, demonstrating how and why culture has become a central factor in tourism. The authors analyse a wide range of relevant issues, including: how heritage-based and cultural tourism could contribute to the sustainability of destinations; the increase of religious travels to and within Arab countries; and how cultural tourism fosters understanding among people and cultures, and could even potentially help to consolidate peace at a regional level. The book also analyses interactions between hosts (the local residents) and guests (the cultural visitors), revisiting the pioneer hippy travelling experiences in Turkey of the 1960s and how they shaped youth culture. This book will be of great interest to students and researchers of cultural tourism. The chapters were originally published in the journal Anatolia.

In line with the exponential growth of global tourism, Vietnam has been an emerging tourist attraction in recent years. Renowned as a nation with a several thousand-year history and an abundance of cultural/heritage values, heritage tourism in Vietnam is one of the most fast-growing and prevalent aspects of modern times. Unfortunately, few studies taking heed of this increasingly important sector have been reported so far. This study endeavors to fill academic gaps by scrutinizing and comparing heritage visitors at two World Heritage Sites of Vietnam called the Thang Long Imperial Citadel and the Citadel for Ho dynasty. The fundamental objectives are to classify visitors based on their depth of heritage experience and their cultural motives for visiting; and to measure visitor's satisfaction in relation to the selected heritage attributes. Visitors to the Thang Long Imperial Citadel and the Ho Citadel were identified as participants of this research. Primary data was collected through the use of selfadministered questionnaires, in total a sample of 195 respondents. Statistical analysis was then applied to shed light on these results. The findings reveal that there were disparities in the classification of heritage tourists, leading to the diversity of heritage experiences. Through examining specific hypotheses, this study investigated relationships among the satisfaction of tourists, the heritage selected attributes, intentions to revisit, demographic characteristics and heritage tourist groups. The research findings have implications for services for tourists at each heritage sites. Acknowledgement of this study's limitations and a call for future studies are noted in the concluding chapter.
