[T]he book is splendid. Wortzel combines his expertise in Sinology with his meticulous attention to epistemology and methodology in studying the class structure and stratification in Maoist China, accomplishing the rare feat of freeing himself from ideological bias and parochial ethnic subjectivity. . . . It is indeed refreshing to read Wortzel's realistic book. Journal of Third World Studies Although the hierarchy of class is said to have been replaced with distinctions between the friends and enemies of Communism, Larry Wortzel argues that the Chinese Communist Party has in reality evolved into a ruling class which serves its own interests. Drawing on literature from dissident Marxists and using analyses of writings from underground journals and the Beijing publication People's Literature, the author examines perceptions of social stratification and finds that the determinants of social and economic standing now appear to depend on lines of management and authority, residence in urban or rural areas, and Party membership, especially when combined with positions of authority This work presents one of the first comprehensive analyses of the class system in socialist China as it exists in practice rather as conceived in theory.

The Radical Novel and the Classless Society analyzes utopian and proletarian novels as a single socialist tradition in U.S. literature. Utopian novels by such writers as Edward Bellamy, William Dean Howells, Charlotte Perkins Gilman, and Sutton E. Griggs and proletarian novels by such writers as Robert Cantwell, John Steinbeck, Richard Wright, Meridel Le Sueur, Claude McKay, and Ralph Ellison can help us conceive of a unity of utopian and Marxist socialisms. We can combine the imagination of the future classless society with present-day socialist strategy. Utopian and proletarian novels help us to imagine—and realize—the classless society as achieving the utopian goal of recognizing race and gender and the Marxist goal of overcoming social class.

The Death Of Class written by Jan Pakulski and has been published by SAGE this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1996-02-27 with Social Science categories.

Traditionally class has been the key concept for understanding society, enabling analysts to interpret social conflict and predict the course of social development. Critics argue that it is too crude and incapable of handling the nuances of the new identity politics. Jan Pakulski and Malcolm Waters take the radical position within the current debates that class is a purely historical phenomenon. This stimulating book argues that concentration on class actually diverts attention from other more central and more morally problematic inequalities. The class perspective has become a political straitjacket which obstructs an accurate understanding of contemporary social, cultural and political processes.

Theology Of A Classless Society written by Geevarghese Mar Osthathios and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1979-01-01 with Religion categories.

In Theology of a Classless Society Metropolitan Mar Osthathios is very anxious not to be thought of as a communist or a revolutionary. So why not change the title' Because the author firmly believes it is wrong to leave the idea of a classless society to the communists. It is a Christian concept, quite capable of defeating the atheism of communism if applied with courage and vision. Metropolitan Osthathios has both. He tells us at the beginning that "any true Christian theology is a theology of a classless society". The Lord's Prayer is the model prayer of the classless society. The ethics of the Sermon on the Mount are the ethical standards of a classless society. Poverty is a spiritual as well as a material condition, and poverty anywhere is a threat to prosperity everywhere. The perfection of such a society may be impossible in practice, but that makes it all the more important to pray for it and to work for it. So we have a plea for all religions to be more tolerant, for a one-world family and a one-world government, since there is no salvation for us apart from our brethren. But behind every chapter of this book the doctrine of the Trinity is central and all-controlling. The Trinity is a classless society of perfect equality, and the author goes on to show that if we are to express God and his love in life, we must see to it that the classless society of state, nation or world is modelled on the life of the Holy Trinity.
