L’autore è stato testimone diretto di fatti salienti che hanno inciso sulla geopolitica mondiale: la Rivoluzione iraniana, gli attacchi alle Ambasciate occidentali, il personale dell’Ambasciata degli Stati Uniti a Teheran preso in ostaggio, i drammatici tentativi americani di liberarli, le Rivoluzioni delle “Primavere Arabe” in Egitto, Libia, Siria, Iraq. Tra le due, le sanguinose guerre civili in Somalia e in Sudan, gli anni in Libia e il difficile rapporto con Gheddafi, le guerre di indipendenza dei Peshmerga sulle montagne del Kurdistan e dei Tuareg nei deserti del Sahara. La storia personale che si intreccia con la grande Storia in un groviglio di sentimenti quasi mai netti, dove a volte è difficile distinguere il bene dal male, perché i popoli non sono mai entità astratte, ma composti da individui con le loro vite da portare avanti anche nelle situazioni più tragiche. E in quest’ottica a volte si scoprono le vere ragioni che stanno dietro al malcontento di un paese, la rabbia, la delusione e la lotta per la sopravvivenza. Claudio Pacifico è un diplomatico italiano, scrittore e saggista. È nato a Roma nel 1947. Ha conseguito il Diploma di Maturità Classica al Liceo ”Ennio Quirino Visconti” di Roma (1965). La Laurea in Giurisprudenza, con la massima votazione di 110 e lode, all’Università “La Sapienza” di Roma (1971). Si è specializzato in discipline internazionali studiando alla Johns Hopkins University, University of Baltimore, Bologna Center (1971-72) e al Winston Churchill College di Cambridge, University of Cambridge nel Regno Unito (1972). Nel 1974 è entrato nella carriera diplomatica italiana dove ha servito sino al suo collocamento a riposo, il 1° gennaio 2013. Nella sua lunga carriera, l’Ambasciatore Pacifico ha svolto il suo servizio in sedi di particolare rilevanza per gli interessi italiani (a cominciare dall’Ambasciata d’Italia a Washington) e anche di “prima linea”, in contesti di pericolo, talvolta veri e propri teatri di guerra, come l’Iran della Rivoluzione iraniana; la Somalia della guerra tribale e civile; il Sudan, allora rifugio di Osama Bin Laden e obiettivo dei bombardamenti americani; la Libia di Gheddafi, o anche il Bangladesh dei cicloni e delle peggiori pandemie; e infine l’Egitto della “Rivoluzione di Piazza Tahrir”, epicentro e simbolo delle cosiddette “Primavere Arabe”, dove è stato fortemente impegnato nella tutela dei nostri connazionali e degli importanti interessi delle società italiane sino alla fine della sua carriera.

La Rivista di Studi Politici Internazionali è una rivista scientifica, interdisciplinare, che ha una lunga tradizione. Essa è stata fondata a Firenze nel 1934 dai Professori Giacinto Bosco e Jacopo Mazzei e dagli Ambasciatori Amedeo Giannini e Cesare Majoni nello Studio di politica estera del Regio Istituto "Cesare Alfieri", allo scopo di promuovere gli studi politici internazionali e di contribuire alla formazione dei giovani destinati alla carriera politica, diplomatica o ad operare in altro modo in campo internazionale. E' stata diretta ininterrottamente dal Professore Giuseppe Vedovato dal 1947 al 2005 e a partire dal 2006 ne è direttore la Professoressa Maria Grazia Melchionni".
