Gynecologists cannot fulfill the commitments of their profession without being psychosomatically oriented. Nevertheless, this field needs methodology and scientific thinking just as does any other subspeciality in clinical medicine. Although practiced by all gyne cologists, creative work is needed in order to develop the various aspects properly and to establish postgraduate training on a firm and sound basis. For this purpuse the European Symposia have been planned by several European Researchers on Psychosomatic Obstetrics and Gynecology in order to stimulate and integrate clinical scientific data and therapeutic skills in the bio-psycho-social field of obstetrics and gynecology. The first European Symposium in Leuven 1985 concentrated on the psychosomatic aspects of infertility and high risk pregnancies. This second European Symposium in Bad Sackingen centered around disturbed body perception, disturbances of the menstrual cycle, climacteric syndrome, and senium. These topics were elaborated in main lectures and workshops held by outstanding researchers in this rapidly expanding field. The second European Symposium on Psychosomatic Obstetrics and Gynecology was organized by the German Society of Psycho somatic Obstetrics and Gynecology, supported by the University Hospital Freiburg/Br., the University Hospital Basel, and the Women's District Hospital in Bad Sackingen.

Somatoform And Other Psychosomatic Disorders written by Christos Charis and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2018-07-23 with Psychology categories.

This intriguing volume presents the most contemporary views on the conceptualization and treatment of somatoform disorders and related conditions from experts in psychodynamic and cognitive behavioral approaches. It does so with respect to both perspectives, without advocating for either approach. By presenting expert views from diverse perspectives, the book raises, what is a central point in most of the chapters, that emotion, its processing and regulation, is a cornerstone of these disorders. The volume also highlights the role of pathogenic coping or defense mechanisms like dysfunctional avoidance (from a CBT perspective) and conversion (from the psychodynamic perspective) in the maintenance of psychosomatic symptoms. The volume’s contents include detailed literature reviews on the most common—and most treatment-resistant—mind/body conditions, including chronic pain, responses to trauma, alexithymia, and the spectrum of health anxiety disorders. Noted experts distinguish between types of medically unexplained symptoms, discuss their complex processes, and provide models for intervention where cognitive-behavioral or psychodynamic approaches may be appropriate or effective. And a fascinating case study of a patient presenting multiple trauma-related disorders explores therapist resourcefulness over a course of shifting symptoms and frustrating setbacks. Among the topics covered: Maintaining mechanisms of health anxiety: current state of knowledge. Negative affect and medically unexplained symptoms. Alexithymia as a core trait in psychosomatic and other psychological disorders. Trauma and its consequences for body and mind. Embodied memories, a new pathway to the unconcious. Psychotherapy among HIV patients: a look at a psychoimmunological research study after 20 years. Health anxiety: a cognitive-behavioral framework. The wealth of options discussed in Somatoform and Psychosomatic Disorders offers health psychologists, psychiatrists, psychotherapists, counselors, and psychoanalysts bold new ideas for case formulation, treatment planning, and intervention with some of their most intractable cases.

Balint Matters written by Jonathan Sklar and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2018-05-08 with Psychology categories.

This book explores the life and theories of Michael Balint, who kept alive Ferenczi's analytic traditions in Budapest and brought them to London, where they became a vital part of the Independent Group's theory and practice. Balint's theoretical understanding of regression, 'new beginnings', 'basic fault', as well as his profound impact on medicine, are all described. The work in the Balint groups by general practitioners, psychiatrists, and physicians are explored. Whole person and psychosomatic medicine, championed by Balint, is contrasted with today's more compartmentalised approach to medicine, including the increasing separation of the GP from the family. In the second part of the book Dr Sklar reflects on the complex tasks involved in psychodynamic assessment. Vignettes illustrate the importance of understanding the forces in family dynamics, the value of an early memory and a dream, and the sexual life of the patient. The author argues that Balint's ideas are of particular significance to us today, in our world of quick fixes and the overspecialisation of medicine.
