Learning and development is essential to organizational success. Training courses were traditionally used as the key method of teaching, but the focus is increasingly shifting to individuals and managers adopting a more flexible approach to learning. Organizations want to ensure that their employees are not just learning new skills, but are using their existing skills to maximum effect. Workplace Learning and Development guides managers and employees through the concept of workplace learning. It identifies the variety of flexible learning strategies and methods, explains how to select the right method for a specific situation, and illustrates how these methods can add value to overall performance. Real-life examples of workplace learning give readers insight into how the process works and how they can use these tools for their specific needs.

Sharpening The Competitive Edge Case Studies written by National Alliance of Business, Inc., Washington, DC. and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1987 with Occupational retraining categories.

This collection of 16 case studies is intended to illustrate how the public and private sectors have managed to collaborate in helping workers adapt to changing employment circumstances. The case studies are grouped into three categories. The first six case studies are examples of programs that have been developed to assist in training for new jobs as a result of business relocation or expansion. They illustrate ways in which state assistance (either alone or coupled with local money) and community and/or regional economic development organizations can create new jobs by attracting business to an area. Next, five case studies show how employer-initiated efforts, in cooperation with local education and training institutions, can help prevent job loss by retraining existing workers so that they can meet changing workplace needs (such as the adoption of new equipment or processes). The five case studies presented in the third chapter, all of which are dislocated worker programs operated under the auspices of the Job Training Partnership Act (JTPA), reflect strategies for retraining workers who have been laid off from their jobs with little or no prospect of ever returning to them. These programs exemplify how employers, unions, local governments, and JTPA Private Industry Councils can join forces to develop dislocated worker programs. (An annotated bibliography of 13 resources dealing with worker dislocation and training and retraining programs for unemployed and/or dislocated workers is appended.) (MN)

Financing The Education Of Health Workers Gaining A Competitive Edge written by Alexander S Preker and has been published by World Scientific this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019-08-27 with Medical categories.

This volume reviews the economic underpinnings (investment and financing) and institutional reforms needed to successfully scale up the education of health workers. In this regard, the book examines five major economic and institutional challenges that policy makers face: (1) governance of health education organizations and systems; (2) approaches to financing the education of health workers; (3) the special nature of capital investment in expanding the capacity of health education institutions; (4) public-private partnerships in health education; and (5) equity in accessing health education, with a special focus on issues that arise from private approaches to the education of health workers.Much of the existing literature focuses on the quality and contents of training health workers, and very little has been written on the institutional dimension of financing their training and education. This book examines the complex institutional and financial models and approaches that can impact the demand and supply of health worker education programs around the world.Building on the findings of the Independent Commission on the Education of Health Professionals for the 21st Century, which published on the foundations and the issues of global postsecondary professional education, this volume brings in new and in-depth aspects such as governance, capital investments, and the role of the private sector in the production of health professionals; thus allowing the reader to understand how the health worker education field has moved from theory to practice.

Strategy And Training written by Philippe Korda and has been published by Strategic Management this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012 with Business & Economics categories.

This book explores corporate training in the context of deploying strategic initiatives within organisations. It goes beyond merely explaining strategy, to investigating how it relates to skills training, and how companies can leverage this to implement their initiatives. Drawing on real-life client examples and the inspirational stories of highly successful individuals, this book highlights approaches that have transformed organisations and re-invented training. It dispels myths that exist around traditional training paradigms and brings to light the effectiveness of new methods and approaches. Social learning, using technologies such as Twitter and video-blogs, is today revolutionising the way training is undertaken. At the same time, the age-old communication technique of storytelling is being reinvented as a way to roll out strategic programs to large multi-cultural groups on a global scale. The author presents key questions that are relevant at project and company level, and provide practical checklists and summaries complementing each chapter of the book. This text highlights how you can develop your team's expertise through systematic coaching when cascading a strategy throughout your organisation, and explains the benefits of reinforcing strengths, identifying weaknesses and correcting failures to build competitive advantage. It also addresses the risk of 'unlearning' post-training, and issues that arise with maintaining performance evaluation and measuring tangible progress. Succinct and pragmatic, the book reveals how strategic projects can be successfully rolled out globally; using cost-effective training that will ensure a return on investment for your organisation.
