Is there any way to be spiritual without denying rationality? This book is an attempt to answer that question. It is a must read for rational Westerners who long for some form of spirituality in their lives. The first half of the book is a critique of current religious and spiritual options. The critique addresses organized religion, the twelve-step program, and the spiritual-but-nonreligious approach, all of which have serious shortcomings. The second half of the book offers a new approach to spirituality; a trans-rational approach. The seeds sown will hopefully fertilize a vigorous discussion about what it means to be spiritual. At the very least, the book will challenge ideas about religion and spirituality and bring the reader closer to a personal approach that includes, but is not limited to, rationality.

Synchronicity As Transpersonal Modality written by Morten Frederiksen and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016-06-08 with Psychology categories.

Morten Frederiksen explores Carl Gustav Jung’s elusive notion of synchronicity from a transrational perspective and relates synchronicity to the transpersonality of the "All-One". This is done by expanding the content and meaning of Wolfgang Dietrich ́s layers of Elicitive Conflict Mapping (ECM) through re-relating them to Ken Wilber ́s model of the structures of consciousness; with synchronicity as the literal connecting principle. The result, then, is an expanded notion of the transrational peace philosophy which includes Wilber ́s model of stages shorn of its evolutionary slant and fathoms synchronicity in its theoretical outlook and practical application.

There is arguably no more critical and pressing topic than the relation of science and religion in the modern world. Science has given us the methods for discovering truth, while religion remains the single greatest force for generating meaning. Yet the two are seen as mutually exclusive, with wrenching consequences for humanity. In The Marriage of Sense and Soul, one of today's most important philosophers brilliantly articulates how we might begin to think about science and religion in ways that allow for their reconciliation and union, on terms that will be acceptable to both camps. Ken Wilber is widely acclaimed as the foremost thinker in integrating Western psychology and the Eastern spiritual traditions. His many books have reached across disciplines and synthesized the teachings of religion, psychology, physics, mysticism, sociology, and anthropology, earning him a devoted international following. The Marriage of Sense and Soul is his most accessible work yet, aimed at guiding a general audience to the mutual accord between the spiritual, subjective world of ancient wisdom and the objective, empirical world of modern knowledge. Wilber clearly and succinctly explores the schism between science and religion, and the impact of this "philosophical Cold War" on the fate of humanity. He systematically reviews previous attempts at integration, explaining why romantic, idealistic, and postmodern theories failed. And he demonstrates how science is compatible with certain deep features common to all of the world's major religious traditions. In pointing the way to a union between truth and meaning, Ken Wilber has created an elegant and accessible book that is breathtaking in its scope.

Integral Spirituality is being widely called the most important book on spirituality in our time. Applying his highly acclaimed integral approach, Ken Wilber formulates a theory of spirituality that honors the truths of modernity and postmodernity—including the revolutions in science and culture—while incorporating the essential insights of the great religions. He shows how spirituality today combines the enlightenment of the East, which excels at cultivating higher states of consciousness, with the enlightenment of the West, which offers developmental and psychodynamic psychology. Each contributes key components to a more integral spirituality. On the basis of this integral framework, a radically new role for the world’s religions is proposed. Because these religions have such a tremendous influence on the worldview of the majority of the earth’s population, they are in a privileged position to address some of the biggest conflicts we face. By adopting a more integral view, the great religions can act as facilitators of human development: from magic to mythic to rational to pluralistic to integral—and to a global society that honors and includes all the stations of life along the way.

In many cultures throughout history, male transgenderism has been valued as a rare qualification for spiritual life. Cross-dressed priests and shamans have been common features in Eastern, ancient Western, and so-called "primitive" societies. This has not been a feature of modern Western traditions, but times are changing. Other cultures are being explored by Westerners and receiving some of the respect they deserve. Many people are recognizing that the presence of crossed-sex tendencies is normal and necessary for emotional and spiritual growth. The principles of yoga stress the importance of engaging all aspects of our personalities in pursuit of peace, knowledge, and fulfillment. This book presents a historical survey of male transgenderism in spiritual life - including biographies of well-known figures who used their crossed-sex identification as vehicles for worship and self-discovery. It also discusses ways for the transgender male to turn his yearning for sexual transformation into a powerful tool for spiritual transformation - to turn what may be seen by some as a curse or abnormality into a blessing.

More Likely To Quote Star Wars Than The Bible written by Gudjon Bergmann and has been published by CreateSpace this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2015-05-04 with categories.

From the introduction: "We are Generation X, born between the mid-sixties and early eighties, raised in the shadow of the Cold War in industrialized Western nations. Underneath our consumer-friendly facade loomed a near-constant fear of nuclear annihilation. Images of disintegrating people and houses that turned instantly to ashes haunted our dreams. We were the first latchkey-kid generation. Our parents believed in free love, and for many of us, that meant broken homes. We are known to be anti-authoritarian, anti-institutional, and notoriously antireligious-more likely to quote Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, Monty Python, or Star Trek than the Bible. We are self-reliant, intellectual, discerning, and postmodern to a fault. Be this as it may, an increasing number of us find that something is missing . . . something vague . . . something-dare I say-spiritual. . ." In utter frustration, Generation X, more than any previous generation, has asked the question: "Isn't there any way to be spiritual without denying rationality?" This book attempts to answer that question. As such, it is a must read for anyone from Generation X who has ever struggled with his or her spiritual identity. More than anything else, this book is an attempt to start an important cultural dialogue. You will want to discuss the ideas it has to offer, as they affect your life directly. The book begins with gusto, offering a sensible critique of current spiritual choices, everything from going to church to practicing twelve step spirituality to becoming spiritual-but-nonreligious, and then moves on to explore what it has meant for us to be the first postmodern generation. Finally, the book ends by demonstrating what a trans-rational approach to spirituality could look like. Written in unapologetic language by a self-described GenX poster child, and riddled with pop culture quotes, this book will spur you to think, and most certainly challenge your ideas about religion and spirituality. By the end, it will bring you closer to a personal approach that includes, but is not limited to, rationality."

A Sociable God written by Ken Wilber and has been published by Shambhala Publications this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2005-02-22 with Philosophy categories.

In one of the first attempts to bring an integral dimension to sociology, Ken Wilber introduces a system of reliable methods by which to make testable judgments of the authenticity of any religious movement. A Sociable God is a concise work based on Wilber's "spectrum of consciousness" theory, which views individual and cultural development as an evolutionary continuum. Here he focuses primarily on worldviews (archaic, magic, mythic, mental, psychic, subtle, causal, nondual) and evaluates various cultural and religious movements on a scale ranging from egocentric to ethnocentric to worldcentric to Kosmic. By using this integral view, Wilber hopes, society would be able to discriminate between dangerous cults and authentic spiritual paths. In addition, he points out why these distinctions are crucial in understanding spiritual experiences and altered states of consciousness. In a lengthy new introduction, the author brings the reader up to date on his latest integral thinking and concludes that, for the succinct and elegant way it argues for a sociology of depth, A Sociable God remains a clarion call for a greater sociology.

Spiritual Crisis written by Fransje de Waard and has been published by Andrews UK Limited this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-07-22 with Religion categories.

The American comedienne Lily Tomlin once observed with surprise that we call it 'praying' when we talk to God and 'schizophrenia' when God talks back to us. In this book people speak about inner experiences in which they perceived themselves and the world so differently that they thought they were going mad. Experiences of existential voids, heights and depths, freezing wastes and silences, of pure energy, love and fear, oneness and chaos. They found no explanation in science or religion; traditional standards of normality and morality brought them no further than 'madness' and 'heresy'. From sheer necessity they learned to steer by a sort of inner compass, and began to tap unconventional resources. This gave their experience on balance the depth and dynamism of a spiritual transformation which they would not have wanted to miss. Since 1994 such spiritual crises have acquired an official place in psychiatric diagnostics, namely as non-pathological episodes. Knowledge and insight fall substantially short, however, both in professional circles and among the public at large. In this book the author shows how transpersonal psychology interprets such crises as the growing pains of human consciousness. This wider perspective transcends the traditional, individual frameworks of the life sciences, parallel to the earlier shift of classical mechanics to quantum physics. At a time that resounds with demands for meaningfulness, and which seems engrossed in a holistic model of reality, this book sets about giving a place within this perspective to the phenomenon of the spiritual crisis.

Volume Eight of The Collected Works of Ken Wilber includes: • In The Marriage of Sense and Soul: Integrating Science and Religion (1998), Wilber takes on the centuries-old problem of the relationship between science and religion. After surveying the world's great wisdom traditions and extracting features they all share, he offers compelling arguments that not only are these compatible with scientific truth, they also share a similar scientific method. • One Taste: The Journals of Ken Wilber (1999) is a lively and entertaining glimpse into a year in the life of Ken Wilber—as well as a thought-provoking series of short essays on current trends in spirituality and psychology, daily reflections, meditation experiences, and advice to spiritual seekers.
