"This book gathers theoretical propositions about space into a conception of dynamic space - space that is complex, interrelated, transcendent, and multi-centered. The polyvalent quality of space that we desire is anticipated and envisioned by American writers, writing out of a pervasive, transcendentalist mode. Works by three authors - Henry David Theoreau, E. E. Cummings, and John Barth - serve as case studies for the consideration of the influence and adaptation of a dynamic strain of transcendentalism in American literature. The envisioning of space as dynamic, as changeable, as mobile, challenges common conceptions of built space as static."--BOOK JACKET.Title Summary field provided by Blackwell North America, Inc. All objective sciences deal with the objectifiable entities and ignore in the process the very subject, who is doing the analysis. This book deals with the limitations of the objective sciences and also discusses how to prepare the mind so that it can see the truth. Transcending Science, therefore, involves how to transcend the subject-object duality, using the Yoga-Sastra discussed in the Gita and the Upanishads, and how to abide in the knowledge by overcoming all the mental obstacles that arise in the process. This forms the very purpose of life itself.

It's easy to focus on the forest and not see the trees of meditation. In this case, following the Buddhist concept of skandhas, there are five of them: the trees of thought, feelings, images, sensations, and states. Together, they constitute the entirety of your identity and experience. This little book is not your typical how-to guide to meditation. It does not provide practical instruction about how to sit or where to look when you meditate, and it does not require that you believe in anything or follow any particular spiritual practice. Transcending Your Monkey Mind offers a deeper understanding of what happens in your mind when you meditate. You can learn to transcend both mind and self without needing to subscribe to any particular type of meditation. By using the tools offered in this book, you can be more successful in meditation no matter what approach you use.

As humans, it is our trust in something larger than ourselves that invests our lives with meaning and value. We hope that outside the boundaries of everyday living there lies something greater. As Doug Cowan argues, science fiction is the genre of possibility and hope, a principal canvas on which writers, artists, and filmmakers have sketched their visions of this transcendent potential for generations. In Sacred Space, he leads readers in a compelling exploration of how this transcendence is manifested in science-fiction cinema and television of today. From the millennial dreams of a future bright with potential to the promise of evolution from some as-yet-undreamed engine of creation, science fiction's visions of transcendence animate the pages of Sacred Space. Drawing on the most popular examples-- Star Wars, Star Trek, Battlestar Galactica, Babylon 5, and Stargate SG-1--as well as the lesser known but no less important, Cowan reveals the multivalent religious ideas present in this media. Why do these themes that consistently appear in science fiction matter? What do they reveal about the often ambivalent relationship between outer space and our spirits? Cowan insightfully shows how these films and shows express and reinforce culturally constructed conceptions of transcendent hope, and along the way provides a provocative reflection on what this ultimately says about our culture's worldviews, hopes, and fears.

Transcending The Speed Of Light written by Marc Seifer and has been published by Simon and Schuster this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2008-08-13 with Body, Mind & Spirit categories.

A study of the new scientific understanding of consciousness and the mind as a fifth dimension of reality • Introduces the existence of a fifth dimension--one of mind--an inner- or hyperspace where time is transcended • Shows how the barrier of the speed of light is actually a gateway demarking the fifth dimension Since the introduction of Descartes’ dualism in the seventeenth century, the mind and the physical world have been viewed as disconnected entities. Yet qualities of mind such as awareness, purposeful action, organization, design, and even decision-making are present within the structure of matter and within the dimensions of space and time. The space-time continuum of scientists generally ignores the realm of the mind, though phenomena such as imaginary numbers, used by Einstein to combine space with time, are concepts that only exist in the mind. Marc Seifer contends that the inadequacy of four-dimensional models to account for our experience of mental phenomena points to the consciousness of the mind as a higher organizing principle, a fifth dimension where thoughts are as real and quantifiable as our familiar physical world. He shows that because thought enables us to move backward and forward through time--reflecting on the past and making plans for the future--this fifth dimension of mind breaks the laws of relativity, thereby transcending the speed of light. His extensive study of this fifth dimension ranges from relativity and ether theory to precognition, telepathy, and synchronicity, all from the perspective of the conscious universe.

Cyberspace is composed of a multitude of different spaces where users can represent themselves in many divergent ways. Why in a video game, is it more acceptable to murder or maim than rape? After all, in each case, it is only pixels that are being assaulted. This book avoids wrestling with the common question of whether the virtual violation of real-world taboos is right or wrong, and instead provides a theoretical framework that helps us understand why such distinctions are typically made, and explores the psychological impact of violating offline taboos within cyberspace. The authors discuss such online areas as: ‘Reality’ sites depicting taboo images Social networking websites and online chatrooms Online dating websites Video game content. This book considers whether there are some interactions that should not be permissible even virtually. It also examines how we might be able to cope with the potential moral freedoms afforded by cyberspace, and who might be vulnerable to such freedoms of action and representation within this virtual space. This book is ideal for researchers and students of internet psychology, philosophy and social policy, as well as therapists, those interested in computer science, law, media and communication studies

Architecture Space And Memory Of Resurrection In Northern Ireland written by Mohamed Gamal Abdelmonem and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019-04-25 with Architecture categories.

Northern Ireland has a complex urbanism with multilayered socio-spatial politics. In this environment, issues of communication, self-representation and expression of identity are central to the experience of urban space and architecture where the dichotomy of division and shared living are spatially exercised in everyday life. Unlike other studies in the area, this book focuses on the everyday experiences of local communities in both public and private spheres - issues of ‘shareness’ - challenging conventional approaches to divided cities. The book aims to layer its narratives of architectural and social developments as an urban experience in post-conflict settings over the past two decades.
