The activities of the Department of Defense (DOD) and its contractors in manufacturing, testing, maintaining, and disposing of military equipment make up a significant portion of the industrial processes conducted in the United States. As is the case with the commercial industries, some of these activities, such as metal plating, have resulted in industrial pollution and environmental contamination. With increasing environmental regulation of such processes in recent decades, defense facilities have been faced with growing compliance issues. Department of Defense efforts to manage, correct, and prevent these problems have included the establishment of the National Defense Center for Environmental Excellence (NDCEE) under the management of the U.S. Army Industrial Ecology Center (IEC). The National Research Council's Committee to Evaluate Transfer of Pollution Prevention Technology for the U.S. Army was formed to identify major barriers to the transfer of pollution prevention technologies and to recommend pathways to success. To address the study objectives, the committee (1) reviewed the NDCEE's technology transfer activities, (2) examined efforts to transfer technology in four areas, two of which were identified at the outset by the NDCEE as successful and two of which were identified as unsuccessful, and (3) identified opportunities for improving the transfer of pollution prevention technologies to maintenance and rework facilities in the Department of Defense and to industrial manufacturing facilities performing defense-related operations.

Pollution Control Technology for Leachate from Municipal Solid Waste explores the physical, chemical and biological factors that produce leachate and technological solutions for its control. The book introduces the integrated and pre-treatment leachate treatment processes that are necessary to deal with the variations of pollutants in leachate. Real world case-studies are provided to illustrate these treatment processes, along with leachate treatment engineering process design and the construction of municipal solid waste incinerator power plants. This book will be of particular interest to Civil, Chemical and Environmental Engineers, but will also be ideal for Environmental Scientists. - Provides quantity and quality prediction models, along with properties of effluent concentrated leachate liquid - Includes physical and chemical treatment processes for leachate, including ammonia nitrogen removal using struvite precipitation, crystal variation and microstructure of the struvite, etc. - Covers leachate treatment engineering processes for design and construction of treatment plants

Development And Transfer Of Pollution Prevention Technology written by Ann Rappaport and has been published by Praeger this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1993-07-30 with Business & Economics categories.

This work explores the promise of pollution prevention in contributing to sustainable development, and acknowledges the difficulty of translating national policy into enterprise-level action. After presenting an overview of pollution prevention theory and practice, other topics (including: innovation, technology transfer, total quality management, corporate culture, and organizational strategy) are explored for pollution prevention implications. Detailed cases of three business units of a U.S.-based multinational corporation are the basis for analyzing what really drives the development and transfer of pollution prevention technology. This book is designed to advance the thinking of decision makers whose primary concern is enhancing companies' environmental performance. The findings and recommendations will be useful to government policy makers, consultants, public interest groups and academics, as well as a wide range of people in companies whose actions can nurture development and transfer of pollution prevention technology.

The Legal Barriers To Technology Transfer Under The Un Framework Convention On Climate Change written by Chen Zhou and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019-03-11 with Law categories.

The book discusses climate technology transfer under the UNFCCC framework, and China’s relevant legislation and practices. It first explores theoretical basis of climate change-related technology transfer, with a particular focus on the differences between climate technology transfer and business-as-usual performance. The book then reviews practices of both technology supplier and user, in order to generally identify potential legal barriers and obstacles. Finally, it sheds light on China, providing a comprehensive assessment on barriers that hinder the trans-boundary transfers of low carbon technologies and need to be overcome in future. The issues concerned involve two of the most dynamic areas in current China’s lawmaking progress: environment laws and Intellectual Property laws. The book provides an in-depth analysis on China’s legislation and practices in this regard. At international level, the legal framework of climate technology transfer is examined in a systematic, prudent and constructive manner. On this basis, the book highlights potential commons, consistency and possible coordination between the UNFCCC and the WTO regime. This book is accessible to both Chinese and international environmental law specialists. It appeals to a broad readership, including environmental scientists, economists concerned with China’s intellectual property law, foreign investment law and anyone interested in the topic: how to green intellectual property rights regime for climate technology transfer in the China context.
