El presente libro, en su segunda edición, es la continuación de "Transformación, Cinco países... un enigma", publicado en el año 2000, en el que se analizó la evolución económica de Argentina Brasil, Chile, México y Venezuela de 1983 a 1999. Aquí se muestra la evolución económica en el periodo 1999-2013 de esos mismos cinco países siguiendo la innovadora metodología del anterior, usando diversos indicadores para observar su transformación en los últimos 14 años. Los autores, como bien afirma Don Enrique V. Iglesias en el prólogo, " han seguido una innovadora metodología en ambos períodos y ello es lo que hace particularmente interesante la empresa que se han propuesto".En el libro anterior se presentaban las razones del atraso que en el periodo 1983-1999 registró Venezuela en transformación y progreso frente a los países mencionados. En este nuevo periodo el Gobierno contó con más recursos y mayor poder que en periodo anterior pero en lugar de progreso en la transformación económica hay un retroceso en los principales indicadores, claramente responsabilidad de la ineficiencia del modelo económico populista de control gubernamental de la economía y del Capitalismo de Estado.Tres datos reflejan claramente el deterioro económico: reducción del número de empresas, emigración calificada y devaluación. De las 600.000 empresas operativas que existían en 1999 según el Instituto Nacional de Estadística, 107.000 han desaparecido, una reduccion del 18%, y en la industria pasaron de 11.000 a 7.000 en 2011 , una reduccion del 36%. Se estima que alrededor de 1 millón 200 mil venezolanos han abandonado el país en busca de mejores condiciones de vida" y según una investigación del profesor Iván De La Vega, 48% de los emigrantes son calificados; la tasa de venezolanos sin trabajo en EEUU es solo de 8%. La devaluación es extraordinaria pues hoy en el mercado paralelo se necesitan 1230 veces más bolívares que en el año 2000.Este libro narra con claridad los aspectos con impacto económico más resaltantes del periodo de 15 años, documentando y analizado los hechos que desembocaron en la critica situación económica de 2013, luego del periodo más largo de altos precios del petróleo disfrutado por Venezuela.

En todos los períodos de la larga era revolucionaria –los utópicos sesenta, los soviéticos setenta y ochenta, y finalmente el momento post-comunista que dura ya más de dos décadas– el autor rastrea cómo esta pasión por lo real desemboca fatalmente en espectáculo revolucionario. Por esta cooptación de la fuerza de las masas en dictadura revolucionaria, la revolución cubana resulta, como la francesa y la rusa, una revolución congelada. Pero también lo es en un segundo sentido, el que comportan sus paradójicos efectos conservadores, particularmente manifiestos tras la caída del muro de Berlín. Allí donde, forzando el libreto pautado por la propia Unión Soviética, una vez se pretendió construir simultáneamente el socialismo y el comunismo, viejos edificios y carros americanos nos devuelven a los años anteriores al parteaguas de 1959. Es justo la pasión de lo real, ese radicalismo que en los sesenta se manifestó en la voluntad de abolir por igual el mercado capitalista y la autonomía burguesa del arte, lo que desemboca en la profunda melancolía de unas ruinas “artizadas”, auráticas, tan fotogénicas como las propias multitudes enardecidas de 1959 y 1960. La ruina habanera no tipifica, entonces, el momento posterior a la revolución, sino que viene a ser, en otra peripecia dialéctica, la revolución misma. Revolución no traicionada, sino más bien congelada, que aún no termina.

Zarathustra was Nietzsche's masterpiece, the first comprehensive statement of his mature philosophy, and the introduction of his influential and well-known (and misunderstood) ideas including the "overman" or "superman" and the "will to power." It is also the source of Nietzsche's famous (and much misconstrued) statement that "God is dead." Though this is essentially a work of philosophy, it is also a masterpiece of literature, a cross between prose and poetry. A considerable part and parcel of Nietzsche's genius is his ability to make his language dance, and this is what becomes extraordinarily difficult to translate. It has been almost 40 years since Hollingdale's version for Penguin and almost 50 since Kaufmann's. However, anyone who appreciates the German original knows that these translations are merely adequate. While earlier translators have smoothed out the rough edges, cut corners and sometimes omitted troublesome passages outright, this one honors and respects the original as no other. Kaufmann and others are guilty of the deplorable tendency to "improve" on the original. Much is lost by this means, to say nothing of the interior rhythms, the grace notes, the not always graceful but omnipresent and striking puns and wordplays. And in not a few instances the current translation improves on Kaufmann's use of English or otherwise clarifies what Nietzsche is really saying
