Why would a Western woman who is free to dress and behave as she pleases convert to a religion immersed in a culture that requires her to cover her hair, dress modestly and reassess her fundamental beliefs? These are personal accounts of eight Western women who radically changed their lives by converting to Islam or marrying a Muslim man. Some women assigned deep meaning to the headscarf, while others found dressing hijab to be freeing. In every case, however, peer pressure, social pressure and male pressure bore profoundly on their decisions, perhaps overpowering their ability to practice hijab purely from their hearts. Again, the dichotomy between voluntary, genuine devotion and conforming behavior influenced on the women’s actions and thoughts.

Transparent made history as the first television show to feature a transgender character in the main role, as the first streaming series to win the Golden Globe for Best Television Series, and as, in the words of journalist Debra Nussbaum Cohen, “the Jewiest show ever.” No television show in history has depicted the lives of American Jews with as much attention to Jewish rituals, quirks, or culture. And no series has portrayed issues of gender and sexuality alongside Judaism with such nuance and depth, making Transparent a landmark series in the history of television. Blessings beyond the Binary brings together leading scholars to analyze and offer commentary on what scholar Josh Lambert calls “the most important work of Jewish culture of the century so far.” The book explores the show’s depiction of Jewish life, religion, and history, as well as Transparent’s scandals and criticisms and how it fits into and diverges from today’s transgender and queer politics. The first book to focus on Transparent, Blessings beyond the Binary offers a rich analysis of the groundbreaking series and its connections to contemporary queer, trans, and Jewish life.

Genesis is the book of beginnings in more than one way. The word itself is a Greek word which means ‘In the beginning.’ It was first used when the Greek translation of the Old Testament, the Septuagint, was finished somewhere around 247BC. There are fifty chapters that range from creation to Joseph’s death. The book is, of course, attributed to Moses, as are all the first five books also called the Pentateuch. It is estimated that he wrote it around 1500BC. Genesis Outline I. History of Humanity in General (1-11) A. Creation of the heavens and earth (1-2) B. Adam and his family (3-5) 1. The Fall of Man (3:1-24) C. Noah and his family (6-11) 1. The Flood (6-10) 2. The Babel Rebellion (11:1-32) II. History of Israel in Particular (12-50) A. Abraham – The father who gave his son (12:1-25-18) B. Isaac – The son who took a bride (25:19 - 26:35) C. Joseph – The providence of God (37:1-60:26 Notice that the outline breaks Genesis into two parts. The first part is the history of man before God called Israel into being, and the second part is all about Israel after that. The reason for that is very clear. After what God had to deal with in the first half, He gave mankind another chance to do it right. He gave them all the things they needed and even told them they were His chosen children. But as we all know, they blew it!

The Transformations of Tragedy: Christian Influences from Early Modern to Modern explores the influence of Christian theology and culture upon the development of post-classical Western tragedy. The volume is divided into three parts: early modern, modern, and contemporary. This series of essays by established and emergent scholars offers a sustained study of Christianity’s creative influence upon experimental forms of Western tragic drama. Both early modern and modern tragedy emerged within periods of remarkable upheaval in Church history, yet Christianity’s diverse influence upon tragedy has too often been either ignored or denounced by major tragic theorists. This book contends instead that the history of tragedy cannot be sufficiently theorised without fully registering the impact of Christianity in transition towards modernity.

A Transformative Reading Of The Bible written by Yung Suk Kim and has been published by Wipf and Stock Publishers this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-04-17 with Religion categories.

In A Transformative Reading of the Bible Yung Suk Kim raises critical questions about human transformation in biblical studies. What is transformation? How are we transformed when we read biblical stories? Are all transformative aspects equally valid? What kind of relationships exists between self, neighbor, and God if transformation is involved in these three? Who or what is being changed, or who or what are we changing? What degree of change might be considered "transformative"? Kim explores a dynamic, cyclical process of human transformation and argues that healthy transformation involves three kinds of transformation: psycho-theological, ontological-theological, and political-theological transformation. With insights gained from phenomenological studies, political theology, and psychotheology, Kim proposes a new model for how to read the Bible transformatively, as he dares to read Hannah, Psalm 13, the Gospel of Mark, and Paul as stories of transformation. The author invites Christian readers, theological educators, and scholars to reexamine the idea of transformation and to engage biblical stories from the perspective of holistic human transformation.
