Dialogue can be an effective response to group and community conflict. This book focuses on the many ways of organizing and facilitating transformative dialogue in conflict resolution. Erik Cleven and Judith Saul bring together an international array of experts to provide an introduction to transformative dialogue in conflict resolution work and show its application in a variety of contexts and challenging cases. Transformative dialogue is a process that allows participants to make decisions about the content, process, and outcomes of dialogue, as well as who will participate. It puts the agency and self-determination of participants at the center while allowing facilitators to co-create dialogue with members of organizations and communities. It also centers on the importance of changes in the quality of interaction between participants since these relational changes are at the heart of dialogue. This book articulates core values that guide the practice of a transformative facilitator and shows how transformative dialogue works in a variety of contexts to support peace and justice.

This book explores dialogue as a transformative form of philosophical practice by unveiling the method behind the unique dialogue developed by mystic and thinker Jiddu Krishnamurti (1895–1986). While Krishnamurti himself generally rejected the cultivation of systems and techniques, Shai Tubali argues that there are easily identifiable patterns through which Krishnamurti strove to realize his dialogical aims. For this reason, he refers to this method, whose existence has evaded Krishnamurti’s followers and scholars alike, as the Krishnamurti dialogue. He suggests that these discursive patterns serve to broaden our understanding of the possibilities of philosophical and religious dialogues and further illuminate established forms of dynamic discourse, such as the Socratic method. Inspired by Pierre Hadot’s revolutionary reading of the classical Greco-Roman texts, the author centers his attention on Plato’s Socratic dialogues and the guru–disciple conversations in the Hindu Upanishads, which fall within the scope of what may be termed ‘the transformative dialogue’: dialogues that have been written with the intention of bringing about a transformation in the mind of the interlocutor and reader and reorienting their way of life. This text appeals to students as well as researchers and suggests that the Krishnamurti dialogue is not only a continuation and development of the transformative dialogue, but that it also amalgamates ingredients of classical Western philosophy and South Asian mysticism. Moreover, this type of dialogue encourages readers to revisit the lost practice of transformative philosophy, in that it reveals new pathways of philosophical and religious inquiry that bear thought-provoking practical implications.

This book proposes an integrated constructionist approach for managing diversity. The existing frameworks for diversity management – collectivistic moral framework and individualist utilitarian framework – do not seem to be well grounded in pragmatic theory. As a result, applications and training have often been lacking in substance and relevance. The integrated constructionist approach integrates these two conflicting attitudes towards differences assuming that differences (or diversity) can be unified to minimise their negative and to maximise their positive potential. The constructionist perspective on communication and language use adds an important conceptual framework to this new approach of diversity management.

Transformative Cooperation (TC) presents new ways for individuals and organizations to partner to create a more sustainable future and take people to a higher stage of moral development. This handbook invites readers to consider how businesses can partner with organizations in other sectors of society, including governments and nonprofits, to address global concerns and improve the lives of all. It documents the need for and early examples of cooperative efforts that have transformed the relationships between corporations and the communities in which their employees live and work. The editors begin by issuing a call for TC, explaining the economic and social reasons for working across traditional organization, national, and international boundaries. The book then goes on to explain the dynamics of transformative cooperation, exploring the leadership characteristics that facilitate the transformation and its social benefits. Throughout this handbook, the editors present some of the best designs in transformative cooperation, and conclude by explaining transformative cooperation as a generative possibility. Overall, the editors and contributors argue that TC is about the search for the best in people, their organizations, and the world around them.

Tolerance And Transformation written by Sandra B. Lubarsky and has been published by Hebrew Union College Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1990-12-31 with Religion categories.
In the last twenty-five years, the effort to understand the ways of others has reinvigorated religious discussion on many levels. We have entered what has been described as the "Age of Dialogue." But what should be the nature of such dialogue? And what should be its goal? What exactly is the proper relationship between different communities of faith? In this book, Sandra B. Lubarsky offers some new answers to these timely questions. She begins with an affirmation of "veridical pluralism," the position that more than one tradition "speaks truth" - a "blessed fact" that enables us to enlarge our vision of truth through openness to the perceptions of others. Using the concept of "transformative dialogue" (a term borrowed from the theologian John B. Cobb, Jr.), she presents a method for the encounter of traditions in an age of religious pluralism - one which entails neither a loss of particularity nor a descent into relativism. In a Jewish contexts, Lubarsky argues that the Noachide Covenant, the premodern Jewish approach to non-Jews, is an inadequate framework for today's dialogue since it accords no independent value to any non-Jewish tradition. She then gives serious attention to the interreligious views of four seminal modern Jewish thinkers: Leo Baeck, Franz Rosenzweig, Martin Buber, and Mordecai Kaplan. Acknowledging our tremendous intellectual debt to them, she nevertheless calls for a move beyond tolerance and beyond mutual appreciation toward dialogue that may be transformative of our own traditions.
