Transformed by the Grace of Jesus is an interactive study that will take you on a journey of Biblical and modern day life transformations. The power of Jesus in a life that is surrendered to His will and purpose is one that can be transformed and turned around to something completely different than what it was. In this interactive study, you will meet women who have experienced that transformative power and be challenged to grow and be transformed yourself. What people are saying about "Transformed by the Grace of Jesus":"Rev. Gidney has blessed the church with an excellent discipleship resource for women of all ages. She is transparent, relevant, and Biblical in the stories told and the questions asked. This is a book for anyone who is willing to risk being challenged through truth-fueled reflection to become more like Jesus.Rev. Peter Moore - D.S., The Atlantic District of The Wesleyan Church"Natalie Gidney has woven together a powerfully meaningful study for all types of women. With thought-provoking questions and insightful narrative, she engages women who are longing for a deeper walk with Jesus, those who are not sure they're yet ready to be transformed, and those who are questioning what a transformed life is all about and if it's even possible. Using stories of women in the Bible and women's lives today, Gidney weaves a witness to the transforming power of Jesus which every woman can easily understand and generously embrace if she so chooses." Dr. Betty Johnson - Retired Wesleyan Pastor"Natalie has given us the gift of this Bible Study guide so we can walk through Scripture and experience how the Holy Spirit can transform every part of our lives. For some of us, transformation will come quickly and for others, it will be a longer journey. But no matter what our experience with transformation, we can be assured that through Bible study and in community we can better see God's purpose for our lives and how we can live out a transformed testimony to everyone we meet. We can be freed from bondage; we can live into our identity as a Child of God and we can release our burdens to God as He alone can transform us from the inside out."Rev. Tanya Nace - Executive Director, World Hope International (Canada)

Several features of the story of the encounter between Jesus and a Syrophoenician woman (Mk 7,24-30) are unique within the Second Gospel: the stress on the woman's identity, Jesus' first refusal to help her, the woman's answer recorded in direct speech, and the fact that Jesus does not seem to expel the demon. This monograph seeks to cast light on the pericope by taking recourse to both diachronic and synchronic methods. It begins with the history of the interpretation of Mk 7,24-30 par. Mt 15,21-28, starting from the patristic period. The ensuing historical-critical study of the Markan text includes an examination of the literary relationship with the Matthean parallel and paves the way for an analysis of Matthew's redaction and his position vis-a-vis Judaism and the Gentile world. The book ends with a synchronic and contextual reading of Mk 7,24-30 attentive to its placement in the Gospel in order to reach the final stage of interpretation.

Winner of a 2020 Catholic Press Association book award (third place, scripture-popular studies). The women God called to bring his chosen people into the world were ordinary women who struggled with emptiness, oppression, infertility, and loss—yet who found strength and hope in God. In her first book, Sarah Christmyer—codeveloper of The Great Adventure Catholic Bible study program—pairs the stories of key Old Testament women with stories of women she has known to show us how we can hear God, say yes to his call, and share him with the world just as they did. Breaking open the scriptures to reveal the historical, cultural, and biblical context in which Old Testament women lived, Sarah Christmyer breathes new life into their stories and makes their lives surprisingly relatable. In the process, she shares stories from her own faith journey and the lives of family and friends to show how the same principles that turned ordinary women into heroines of the faith are true for our lives today. Each chapter of Becoming Women of the Word highlights the spiritual legacy of one or more women in the Old Testament. Their world was vastly different from ours, yet they faced the same questions we do: when we can’t feel God’s presence, where do we find help? When our world is collapsing, where is God? Why should we trust him? How can we trust him? Christmyer simply and clearly draws from the lives of these women important principles that help us to trust—even as we struggle with doubt. For example: Through Eve, we learn to hold on to God’s promise even when we fail. Sarah reminds us to wait on God’s timing to make us fruitful. Miriam, the sister of Moses, shows how to lead by example. Ruth and Esther challenge us to see womanhood as a gift. Hannah and Judith inspire us to trust God even in matters of life and death. These unforgettable portraits create a colorful mosaic of faith, encouraging us to mine God’s Word for spiritual treasure and to pass on the gift.
