. . . that is what learning is. You suddenly understand something you've un derstood all your life, but in a new way. Various transforms have been widely used in diverse applications of science, engineering and technology. New transforms are emerging to solve many problems, which may have been left unsolved in the past, or newly created by modern science or technologies. Various meth ods have been continuously reported to improve the implementation of these transforms. Early developments of fast algorithms for discrete transforms have significantly stimulated the advance of digital signal processing technologies. More than 40 years after fast Fourier transform algorithms became known, several discrete transforms, including the discrete Hart ley transform and discrete cosine transform, were proposed and widely used for numerous applications. Although they all are related to the discrete Fourier transform, different fast algorithms and their implementations have to be separately developed to minimize compu tational complexity and implementation costs. In spite of the tremendous increase in the speed of computers or processors, the demands for higher processing throughout seemingly never ends. Fast algorithms have become more important than ever for modern applications to become a reality. Many new algorithms recently reported in the literature have led to important improvements upon a number of issues, which will be addressed in this book. Some discrete transforms are not suitable for signals that have time-varying frequency components. Although several approaches are available for such applications, various inher ent problems still remain unsolved.

Convergence And Summability Of Fourier Transforms And Hardy Spaces

Convergence And Summability Of Fourier Transforms And Hardy Spaces written by Ferenc Weisz and has been published by Birkhäuser this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017-12-27 with Mathematics categories.

This book investigates the convergence and summability of both one-dimensional and multi-dimensional Fourier transforms, as well as the theory of Hardy spaces. To do so, it studies a general summability method known as theta-summation, which encompasses all the well-known summability methods, such as the Fejér, Riesz, Weierstrass, Abel, Picard, Bessel and Rogosinski summations. Following on the classic books by Bary (1964) and Zygmund (1968), this is the first book that considers strong summability introduced by current methodology. A further unique aspect is that the Lebesgue points are also studied in the theory of multi-dimensional summability. In addition to classical results, results from the past 20-30 years – normally only found in scattered research papers – are also gathered and discussed, offering readers a convenient “one-stop” source to support their work. As such, the book will be useful for researchers, graduate and postgraduate students alike.

Many new DCT-like transforms have been proposed since the first edition of this book. For example, the integer DCT that yields integer transform coefficients, the directional DCT to take advantage of several directions of the image and the steerable DCT. The advent of higher dimensional frames such as UHDTV and 4K-TV demand for small and large transform blocks to encode small or large similar areas respectively in an efficient way. Therefore, a new updated book on DCT, adapted to the modern days, considering the new advances in this area and targeted for students, researchers and the industry is a necessity.

Over the course of the last century, the systematic exploration of the relationship between Fourier analysis and other branches of mathematics has lead to important advances in geometry, number theory, and analysis, stimulated in part by Hurwitz’s proof of the isoperimetric inequality using Fourier series. This unified, self-contained book presents both a broad overview of Fourier analysis and convexity, as well as an intricate look at applications in some specific settings; it will be useful to graduate students and researchers in harmonic analysis, convex geometry, functional analysis, number theory, computer science, and combinatorial analysis. A wide audience will benefit from the careful demonstration of how Fourier analysis is used to distill the essence of many mathematical problems in a natural and elegant way.

Wavelets And Multiscale Analysis written by Jonathan Cohen and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2011-03-01 with Mathematics categories.

Since its emergence as an important research area in the early 1980s, the topic of wavelets has undergone tremendous development on both theoretical and applied fronts. Myriad research and survey papers and monographs have been published on the subject, documenting different areas of applications such as sound and image processing, denoising, data compression, tomography, and medical imaging. The study of wavelets remains a very active field of research, and many of its central techniques and ideas have evolved into new and promising research areas. This volume, a collection of invited contributions developed from talks at an international conference on wavelets, is divided into three parts: Part I is devoted to the mathematical theory of wavelets and features several papers on wavelet sets and the construction of wavelet bases in different settings. Part II looks at the use of multiscale harmonic analysis for understanding the geometry of large data sets and extracting information from them. Part III focuses on applications of wavelet theory to the study of several real-world problems. Overall, the book is an excellent reference for graduate students, researchers, and practitioners in theoretical and applied mathematics, or in engineering.
