Developed for the "transition" course for mathematics majors moving beyond the primarily procedural methods of their calculus courses toward a more abstract and conceptual environment found in more advanced courses, A Transition to Mathematics with Proofs emphasizes mathematical rigor and helps students learn how to develop and write mathematical proofs. The author takes great care to develop a text that is accessible and readable for students at all levels. It addresses standard topics such as set theory, number system, logic, relations, functions, and induction in at a pace appropriate for a wide range of readers. Throughout early chapters students gradually become aware of the need for rigor, proof, and precision, and mathematical ideas are motivated through examples.

Count, color, and write toward better math skills! Prepare your child for future math challenges by introducing and reinforcing important beginning math skills, such as counting money, telling time, identifying shapes, and more. The Transition Math K-1 workbook is aligned with the Common Core State Standards for Mathematics, a comprehensive and progressive set of learning objectives created to help students succeed in math. At the bottom of each workbook page is a cross-reference to the Common Core grade level and "domain" or skill area that the activity practices. The workbook is also consistent with Principles and Standards for School Mathematics, a publication by the National Council for Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM), and it is compatible with Singapore math pedagogy. The lessons are planned in learning sequence; skills introduced in one lesson build on those taught in previous lessons. It's a perfect way to introduce, review, and maintain essential math skills. This workbook will help your child transition from kindergarten to first grade math in a fun, friendly, and creative way.

Transitions In Mathematics Education written by Ghislaine Gueudet and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016-07-07 with Education categories.

This book examines the kinds of transitions that have been studied in mathematics education research. It defines transition as a process of change, and describes learning in an educational context as a transition process. The book focuses on research in the area of mathematics education, and starts out with a literature review, describing the epistemological, cognitive, institutional and sociocultural perspectives on transition. It then looks at the research questions posed in the studies and their link with transition, and examines the theoretical approaches and methods used. It explores whether the research conducted has led to the identification of continuous processes, successive steps, or discontinuities. It answers the question of whether there are difficulties attached to the discontinuities identified, and if so, whether the research proposes means to reduce the gap – to create a transition. The book concludes with directions for future research on transitions in mathematics education.

A Transition to Proof: An Introduction to Advanced Mathematics describes writing proofs as a creative process. There is a lot that goes into creating a mathematical proof before writing it. Ample discussion of how to figure out the "nuts and bolts'" of the proof takes place: thought processes, scratch work and ways to attack problems. Readers will learn not just how to write mathematics but also how to do mathematics. They will then learn to communicate mathematics effectively. The text emphasizes the creativity, intuition, and correct mathematical exposition as it prepares students for courses beyond the calculus sequence. The author urges readers to work to define their mathematical voices. This is done with style tips and strict "mathematical do’s and don’ts", which are presented in eye-catching "text-boxes" throughout the text. The end result enables readers to fully understand the fundamentals of proof. Features: The text is aimed at transition courses preparing students to take analysis Promotes creativity, intuition, and accuracy in exposition The language of proof is established in the first two chapters, which cover logic and set theory Includes chapters on cardinality and introductory topology

More and more students are moving into the upper elementary classroom without having achieved abstraction in multiplication and as a result, are not introduced to the whole number division sequence. Furthermore, we found that students continue to be weak in their multiplication facts, particularly those facts pertaining to 6s, 7s, 8s, and 9s. This lack of achievement in abstraction and consequential weakness in understanding, results in the inability of children to participate in more advanced multiplication presentations. Our findings are particularly problematic since the mathematical sequence for both the advanced fractions and decimals assumes mastery of all whole number operations. Having taken all of these facts into consideration, we designed the Transition Math Task Cards for Level 9-12. With the understanding that teachers must bridge these gaps, while meeting math standards, we believe that this program is a viable sequence to help children move forward. The task cards provide ample opportunities for fact acquisition, and pertinent mathematical comprehension of what happens when multiplying by factors of ten. Children are also introduced to single and double digit division, allowing them to understand the relationship that exists between the two operations.
