The media industry is undergoing an accelerated pace of change, driven in large part by the proliferation of digital platforms. In many cases, the speed of adoption has exceeded our ability to process the impact of these changes on individuals and society at large. This book provides a “behind-the-scenes” look at the media industry’s transition into the digital era and examines its impact on marketing, advertising, innovation and other economic and social activities. The impact of digital technologies on traditional media sectors, such as advertising, video games, film and television is well-documented. Less understood is its effect on our perceptions, thought processes and inter-personal relationships. Social media, for example, represents a fundamental change in the ways we interact with media, communicate with each other and even present ourselves to the world. This has shaped the way we communicate with institutions and brands. Similar to the first “Transitioned Media” book, Transitioned Media: A Turning Point into the Digital Realm, this book combines media industry leaders and academics to explore various transformative trends and issues. Themes include measuring cross-platform behaviour, artificial intelligence in journalism, the evolution of video games, digital media and physical space, the mobile use trends, social media and the corporate world, the changes in the television and newspaper business and the evolving relationship between advertisers and target audiences. The varied backgrounds of contributors and array of topics make for a unique and insightful point of view.

The media industry is in transition. While some changes are readily apparent, we have not even begun to understand the impact of others. The result is one of the most fascinating times in the history of media. As digital technologies accelerate the pace of change in all facets of our lives, researchers and practitioners are exploring its impact on traditional media and social interaction. Transitioned Media brings together leading academics and media industry executives to identify and analyze the most transformative trends and issues. Themes include the effect of digital technologies on consumer behavior, new approaches to advertising and branding, social networks, the blogosphere and impact of “citizen” journalism, music and intellectual property rights, digital cinema, and video games. Underlying the chapters is an economic perspective, with an emphasis on how new business models are being developed that take the social dimensions of digital technologies into account. The result is a unique perspective on the digital media landscape and the forces that will shape it in the future.

Myanmar Media in Transition: Legacies, Challenges and Change is the first volume to overview the country’s contemporary media landscape, providing a critical assessment of the sector during the complex and controversial political transition. Moving beyond the focus on journalism and freedom of the press that characterizes many media-focused volumes, Myanmar Media in Transition also explores developments in fiction, filmmaking, social movement media and social media. Documenting changes from both academic and practitioner perspectives, the twenty-one chapters reinforce the volume’s theoretical arguments by providing on-the-ground, factual and experiential data intended to open useful dialogue between key stakeholders in the media, government and civil society sectors. Providing an overview of media studies in the country, Myanmar Media in Transition addresses current challenges, such as the use of social media in spreading hate speech and the shifting boundaries of free expression, by placing them within Myanmar’s broader historic social, political and economic context.

Children Young People And The Press In A Transitioning Society written by Faith Gordon and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2018-03-10 with Social Science categories.

This book assesses the implications of how children and young people are represented in print media in Northern Ireland – a post-conflict transitioning society. Gordon analyses how children and young people’s perceived involvement in anti-social and criminal behaviour is constructed and amplified in media, as well as in popular and political discourses. Drawing on deviancy amplification, folk devils and moral panics, this original study specifically addresses the labelling perspective and confirms that young people are convenient scapegoats – where their negative reputation diverts attention from the structural and institutional issues that are inevitable in a post-conflict society. Alongside content analysis from six months of print media and a case study on the representation of youth involvement in ‘sectarian’ rioting, this book also analyses interviews with editors, journalists, politicians, policy makers and a spokesperson for the Police Service of Northern Ireland. Noting the importance of prioritising the experiences of children, young people and their advocates, this timely and engaging research will be of specific interest to scholars and students of criminal justice, criminology, socio-legal studies, sociology, social policy, media studies, politics and law, as well as media professionals and policy makers.

This book explores the impact of, and lessons learned from, media development and training programs sponsored by the US government and non-governmental organizations in countries transitioning to democracy. Recognizing the importance of establishing a free press and a free market economy in newly democratic societies, this book examines the training of journalists and media managers in selected countries in Eastern Europe, Africa, Asia, the Middle East, and South America. Drawing on the author’s and other media trainers’ experiences over a 25-year period, this book provides important insights into tailoring training programs to specific regions and countries. Case studies describe training in radio and television management, broadcasting, and media sustainability, and are contextualized against the cultural and historical backgrounds of each region. Media Training in Transition Countries will be of interest to media trainers, government and nongovernment agencies, and scholars and students of international journalism and development.

A Justice Based Approach For New Media Policy written by Amit M. Schejter and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016-12-04 with Social Science categories.

In this book, distributional justice theories developed by John Rawls and Amartya Sen are applied to the governance of today’s media, proposing a fresh, and innovative assessment of the potential role for media in society. Three case studies describe the utilization of new media by marginalized communities in Israel – Ethiopian immigrants, the Bedouin and Palestinians – and set the stage for media policy scholars, teachers and students to discuss an analytic framework for media policy that is fresh, different, innovative and original. Departing from the utilitarian principles that dominate Western liberal regimes, and that have led to the proliferation of media systems in which control is concentrated in the hands of the few, this work proposes an alternative that focuses on redistributing power and voice.
