Over the last decade workforce diversity has attracted much scientific attention. Given the shortage of literature on issues related to homosexual, bisexual and transgender employees, compared to other facets of workforce diversity, this book opens up new perspectives on this issue. Emphasis is placed on the equal consideration of gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender issues. Thus the predominance of lesbian and gay issues in LGBT research (and practice), will be contrasted by an explicit consideration of the unique experiences, stressors and related needs of bisexual and transgender employees. Contributions provide deeper insights into the differing experiences the whole spectrum of LGBT employees make in the workplace in different national and occupational contexts. Furthermore, the collection offers contextualized insights for evaluating and conceptualizing organizational initiatives aiming at a higher level of inclusion for LGBT employees.

A Passion For Difference written by Henrietta L. Moore and has been published by John Wiley & Sons this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-05-13 with Social Science categories.

In this new book Henrietta Moore examines the nature and limitations of the theoretical languages used by anthropologists and others to write about sex, gender and sexuality. Moore begins by discussing recent feminist debates on the body and the notion of the non-universal human subject. She then considers why anthropologists have contributed relatively little to these debates, and suggests that this has much to do with the history of anthropological thought with regard to the conceptualization of "persons" and "selves" cross-culturally. Moore develops a specific anthropological approach to feminist post-structuralist and psychoanalytic theory. In subsequent chapters Moore pursues a series of related themes including the links between gender, identity and violence; questions of gender and identity in the context of intra-household resource allocation; the construction of domestic space and its relationship to bodily practices and the internationalization of relations of difference; and the links between the gender of the anthropologist and the writing of anthropology. This volume demonstrates anthropology's contribution to current debates in feminist theory.

Transgender studies is a heterogeneous site of debate that is marked by tensions, border wars, and rifts both within the field and among feminist and queer theorists. Intersecting the domains of women’s studies, sexuality, gender and transgender studies, Debates in Transgender, Queer, and Feminist Theory provides a critical analysis of key texts and theories, engaging in a dialogue with prominent theorists of transgendered identity, embodiment and sexual politics, and intervening in various aspects of a conceptually and politically difficult terrain. A central concern is the question of whether the theories and practices needed to foster and secure the lives of transsexuals and transgendered persons will be promoted or undermined - a concern that raises broader social, political, and ethical questions surrounding assumptions about gender, sexuality, and sexual difference; perceptions of transgendered embodiments and identities; and conceptions of divergent desires, goals and visions.

Discover the influence of controversial writer Virginia Prince—friend, counselor, philosopher, and publicist for the cross-dressing community Virginia Prince: Pioneer of Transgendering documents the life and work of Virginia Prince, whose writings on transvestites and transsexuals influenced the thinking of an entire generation. This unique book gathers and updates her most important—and hard-to-find—articles that chronicle the development of her philosophy over a twenty-year period and provide insight into her role in the creation of a transgender community. The book includes a photo essay by acclaimed photographer Mariette Pathy Allen, a portrait of Virginia at age 92 from Richard F. Docter, and a foreword by celebrated transgender activist, historian, and scholar Susan Stryker. A staunch promoter of heterosexual transvestism since the late 1950s, Virginia Prince has had a powerful impact on the transgender community. She was the first person to establish a systematic organizational structure that provided a safe setting for transvestites and transsexuals to “come out,” and her advocacy of a “transgenderist” position since the late 1960s constituted a major conceptual and identity innovation. These articles focus on issues of sex, sexuality, and gender and serve as a foundation for what later became “transgender studies” in the 1990s. “The world that we live in is highly polarized and highly stereotyped into femininity and masculinity. What I would like to have you think about is the word in the middle-humanity. A man who wants to look after babies is only being a human being in dealing with young offspring. It has nothing to do with his being a male and not a female, and that is the problem in this area of sex and gender. This high degree of polarization in our society leads to all kinds of confusion in our culture. We must learn that being a person is more important than being either man or woman, male or female.” —Virginia Prince, “Sex vs. Gender” Virginia Prince: Pioneer of Transgendering is an invaluable resource for academics working in the field of transgender studies and an important historical document for members of the transgender community.

Power And Difference written by Joint Committee on Southeast Asia and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1990 with Social Science categories.

Although the societies of island Southeast Asia(Malaysia, Indonesia, and the Philippines, plus Brunei and Singapore) are known for their egalitarian relations between men and women, subtle differences in power and status do exist. These differences are often difficult to conceptualize, and, consequently, the theoretical issues posed by such relatively egalitarian gender systems have been largely unexamined in Western scholarship, even thought these issues are of great importance to feminists and others interested in culture and power. This book is about difference and power as they relate to men and women in island Southeast Asia. It examines how differences between 'male' and 'female' (as gendered concepts of the person) and between men and women (as living beings engaged in activities) are constituted there in assumptions and through practices, and how power is envisioned and distributed among men and women. The book begins with a substantial theoretical essay on gender, power, and the body, which is followed by eleven studies of aspects of gender in various parts of island Southeast Asia.

'Transgender Jurisprudence: Dysphoric Bodies of Lawis an important book. … Sharpe’s discussion [of trangender jurisprudence]… is convincing and thought-provoking, … his observations incisive and legally persuasive … [and] his examination of the fundamental heterosexism and phallocentricity of "reform" jurisprudence is brilliant.' -Queen’s Law Journal (Vol 28(1) 2002 pp 363-369 at pp 365, 366, 368 and 369), Professor Bruce MacDougall of the Faculty of Law, University of British Columbia, Vancouver 'Transgender Jurisprudenceis a work of the most careful and comprehensive scholarship … [and] … will, I have no doubt, be a standard resource to all those who have reason to work in the area, both as practicing lawyers, activists, or academics, in years to come.' -Sydney Law Review (Vol 24 2002 pp 442-448 at p 443), Professor Desmond Manderson, Canada Research Chair in Law & Discourse, McGill University, Montreal 'Transgender Jurisprudenceprovides an excellent, well-researched contribution to the fields of transgender studies and jurisprudence concerning gender and sexuality. … It is also a valuable contribution to wider discussions concerning feminism, poststructuralism and queer studies.' -Res Publica (Vol 8(3) 2002 pp 275-283 at pp 282-283), Dr Surya Munro of the Department of Law, Keele University '[Sharpe] expresses the hope that the book has made an important contribution ... That it has done so is beyond doubt. Indeed more than a contribution, Sharpe has comprehensively reshaped and redefined the field of transgender jurisprudence. … [T]he end result is a book which is not only sustained, integrated and comparative, but which introduces a set of original and sophisticated arguments that will provide an indispensable grounding for subsequent work in the field for some time to come.' -Griffith Law Review (Vol 12(2) 2003 pp 387-390 at p 390), Professor Rosemary Hunter, Dean of the Faculty of Law, Griffith University [Transgender Jurisprudence] has already become a foundational work by which others will be measured. … [It] sets a high bar … As one who litigates cases on behalf of transgender people as well as those involving same-sex couples seeking marriage rights, I think Sharpe has done an incredible job identifying [homophobia as] the source of the tension in such cases.' - Adelaide Law Review Vol 24(2) 2003 pp 99-104 at 104.

Transgender studies is the latest area of academic inquiry to grow out of the exciting nexus of queer theory, feminist studies, and the history of sexuality. Because transpeople challenge our most fundamental assumptions about the relationship between bodies, desire, and identity, the field is both fascinating and contentious. The Transgender Studies Reader puts between two covers fifty influential texts with new introductions by the editors that, taken together, document the evolution of transgender studies in the English-speaking world. By bringing together the voices and experience of transgender individuals, doctors, psychologists and academically-based theorists, this volume will be a foundational text for the transgender community, transgender studies, and related queer theory.
