This work covers the pathophysiology of cancer, exploring the difficulty of optimal treatment due to the complexity and diversity of cancer types. The search for distinctive molecular biology characteristics of tumor cells is especially relevant in the identification of overexpressed receptors and proteins that can be used as a target for cancer treatment. We highlight the main therapeutic modalities, particularly conventional systemic chemotherapy, addressing its mechanisms of action, therapeutic classes and even the toxic effects. We also describe the main tumor markers, their importance in the diagnosis and treatment of cancer, and the specificity of tumor cells. The first chapters serve as an introduction to the central topic of this book, targeted therapy. Key aspects of target therapy, such as classes of drugs, immunotherapy, monoclonal antibodies, checkpoint inhibitors, cancer vaccines and tyrosine kinase inhibitors are presented, and, for each one, the benefits, as well as the adverse effects are reported. Chapter 6 compares conventional systemic chemotherapy and targeted therapy, identifies the risks and benefits and also the eligibility criteria for patient care. The possibility of targeted therapy replacing conventional chemotherapy is discussed while reviewing studies that demonstrate the benefits of combining both types of treatment. Finally, the introduction of pharmaceutical nanotechnology to improve antineoplastic agents is addressed in the last chapter and sets the direction for future research in cancer treatment. This is a valuable resource for many health professionals including physicians, pharmacists, nurses, researchers and students interested in the field of oncology.

Maintaining quality and improving cancer care does not occur in a vacuum. It requires a coordinated effort among many team members to whom this book is directed. Cancer care in the United States is in crisis as per a recent National Institute of Health publication. Much of this has to do with the complexity of the cancer care, its delivery systems, the aging population and the diminishing workforce. We need to be smarter and more efficient to de-escalate this crisis and improve the survival and survivorship of our cancer patients. Improved survivorship of families and caregivers will be included as well. The book will follow the continuum of cancer care model as its outline vide infra. It will provide many concrete instances of successful practices and programs which improve survivorship. Initially it will discuss the current crisis on a global and then national platform. There will be a discussion about disability adjusted life years lost, lost productivity, loss of life and its impact upon the nation and communities. The financial impact of cancer on society and government will be included in this. Population health management as regards cancer will then look at communities served, community health needs assessments and social determinants of health. How prevention and screening programs can be formulated from the above will be illustrated. Compliance with treatments as promulgated by the Commission on Cancer’s Cancer Program Practice Performance Reports (CP3R) will be reviewed. The relationship between compliance and improved survival will be highlighted. Navigation and distress management to assure patients complete planned treatments will be included in this section. Quality of survivorship will review the four domains of life- spiritual, social, psychological and physical. How these can be maximized through system improvement and program development will be illustrated. Financial issues and legal protections will also be included in this section. Survivorship care planning i.e. surveillance for recurrent cancer, prevention of related and new cancers will be an integral part of this section. Palliative, end of life care and bereavement care will complete the continuum cycle. Identifying hospitalized patients in need of palliative needs will be refreshed. How to establish an in-patient palliative care team and creating a seamless transition from in-patient to out-patient palliative care will be presented. Intended AudienceAdministrative and clinical staff involved in the delivery of cancer care including: hospital executives, physicians, nurses, radiation therapists, psychology counselors, social workers, physical therapists, occupation therapists, nutritionists, government, healthcare insurance representatives, etc.

Optimal Impulsive Control For Cancer Therapy written by João P. Belfo and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020-06-19 with Technology & Engineering categories.

This Springer brief discusses the use of control engineering methods to plan a cancer therapy which tends to reduce tumour size in patients, striking a balance that minimizes the toxic effects of the treatment. The authors address the design and computation of impulsive control therapies, a methodology previously underexplored in the application of control methods to medical modelling. This allows simulation of such discrete events as taking a pill rather than relying on the supply of therapy being continuous and steady. The book begins with an introduction to the topic, before moving onto pharmacokinetic, pharmacodynamical and tumour-growth models and explaining how they describe the relationship between a certain therapy plan and the evolution of cancer. This is placed firmly in the context of work introducing impulsive differential equations. The final chapter summarizes the research presented and suggests future areas of research to encourage readers in taking the subject forward. This book is of interest to biomedical engineers, researchers and students, particularly those with a background in systems and control engineering.

Curing Cancer With Carrots written by Ann Cameron and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2015-10-18 with categories.

In 2013, Ann Cameron cured Stage 4 colon cancer without chemotherapy or radiation, by drinking carrot juice. Since then, others with a variety of cancers have reported similar successes. Cameron wanted to find out why such an apparently simple cancer cure--just carrots--works. Based on her extensive reading in scientific journals focused on nutrition and cancer, her ground-breaking book describes the details of the carrot treatment and the scientific evidence for its power. In this book, she shares little-known research that is revolutionizing scientific thinking about cancer and how to treat it. The research comes from the exciting new field of epigenetics--the study of how chemical switching mechanisms in our bodies change the expression of our genes. Our environment, the foods we eat, and the way we live can silence pro-cancer genes or turn them on, set anti-cancer genes on alert or turn them off. Genes aren't our destiny. Neither is cancer. Cancer develops when the body loses its ability to recognize and eliminate rogue cells--cells that take over the body if they don't quit dividing. In some cases--probably many--carrots can restore the body's natural power to regulate growth and kill defective cells. The scientific information in this book could be a life-saver and a beacon of hope for you or someone you know. Equally helpful, it offers the practical knowledge Cameron gained from her journey through cancer and back to health--how to use the internet to research proposed treatments and the quality of hospitals and doctors; how to reduce the cost of cancer care; and how to arrive at individual treatment decisions that are best for you.
