This unique text develops an original theoretical framework for understanding the relationship between trauma and time by combining phenomenological and psychoanalytical traditions. Moving beyond Western psychoanalytical and phenomenological traditions, this volume presents new perspectives on the assessment and treatment of trauma patients. Powerfully illustrating how the temporal dimension of a patient’s symptoms has until now been overlooked, the text presents a wealth of research literature to deepen our understanding of how trauma disrupts individual temporal experience. Ultimately, the resulting phenomena that occur (including dissociation and cognitive distortions) position time as a transdiagnostic psychological dimension, closely connected to the subject’s sense of self. This text will benefit researchers, academics, and educators with an interest in psychoanalysis, phenomenology, and trauma and dissociation studies more broadly. Those specifically interested in the philosophy of the mind, Freud, and psychotherapy will also benefit from this book.

This volume was first published by Inter-Disciplinary Press in 2014. What emerged from the 3rd Global Conference on Trauma Theory and Practice was a lively and informed view of the different ways our history, personal experiences, education, and forms of entertainment are shaped by trauma and its resultant interpretations. This volume comprises numerous academic papers concerning essential subjects in relation to trauma, from literary representations of and responses to war-related trauma, to the articulating of suffering and other traumatic legacies of colonialism. Key scholars, including Cathy Caruth and Ann E. Kaplan, are employed to develop these important research areas, as conference participants provide new insights into artistic representations of trauma and their subsequent analysis. Significant time is also dedicated to papers concerning post-traumatic growth and the role of psycho-spiritual transformation in the process, outcomes, and management of trauma. Using clinical examples, valuable research concerning the creation of safe learning environments for traumatized children is also discussed, along with additional research concerning Sandplay therapy and the theoretical and empirical aspects of time.

Dying For Time written by Martin Hägglund and has been published by Harvard University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012-10-30 with Literary Criticism categories.

Novels by Proust, Woolf, and Nabokov have been read as expressions of a desire to transcend time. Hägglund gives them another reading entirely: fear of time and death is generated by investment in temporal life. Engaging with Freud and Lacan, he opens a new way of reading the dramas of desire as they are staged in both philosophy and literature.

The Impact Of Complex Trauma On Development written by Cheryl Arnold and has been published by Bloomsbury Publishing PLC this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2011-10-16 with Psychology categories.

The Impact of Complex Trauma on Development describes what happens cognitively and emotionally, behaviorally and relationally, to people who are repeatedly traumatized in childhood. Part One brings together trauma theory with a number of theories of human development. It directly addresses and describes developmental pathology and its origins. Through powerful examples, it conveys to the reader the pain and destruction caused by ongoing trauma, abuse, and continuous stress. Part Two, written from the perspective of a clinician who has worked extensively with traumatized children and adults, is primarily directed to mental health professionals and graduate students. These chapters are devoted to describing how to recognize the pathological consequences of trauma and how to intervene and remediate these developmental deficits. The overarching theory is psychoanalytically-based and developmental, but other treatment approaches are integrated into the therapy when they are developmentally and therapeutically appropriate. The text raises important questions related to the development of the self, its relationship to therapy, and the diagnosis and treatment of complex trauma in children, adolescents, and adults.

Coming Too Late written by Andrew Barnaby and has been published by SUNY Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017-06-29 with Literary Criticism categories.

Rethinks the significance of the son’s relationship to his father for Freud’s psychoanalytic theory. Aiming to reconceptualize some of Freud’s earliest psychoanalytic thinking, Andrew Barnaby’s Coming Too Late argues that what Freud understood as the fundamental psychoanalytic relationship—a son’s ambivalent relationship to his father—is governed not by the sexual rivalry of the Oedipus complex but by the existential predicament of belatedness. Analyzing the rhetorical tensions of Freud’s writing, Barnaby shows that filial ambivalence derives particularly from the son’s vexed relation to a paternal origin he can never claim as his own. Barnaby also demonstrates how Freud at once grasped and failed to grasp the formative nature of the son’s crisis of coming after, a duality marked especially in Freud’s readings and misreadings of a series of precursor texts—the biblical stories of Moses, Shakespeare’s Hamlet, E. T. A. Hoffmann’s “The Sandman”—that often anticipate the very insights that the Oedipal model at once reveals and conceals. Reinterpreting Freudian psychoanalysis through the lens of Freud’s own acts of interpretation, Coming Too Late further aims to consider just what is at stake in the foundational relationship between psychoanalysis and literature.

Trauma And Meaning Making written by Danielle Schaub and has been published by BRILL this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2023-10-20 with Psychology categories.

Trauma and Meaning Making highlights multiple practices of meaning making after traumatic events in the lives of individuals and communities. Meaning making consists both in a personal journey towards a new way to exist and live in a world shattered by trauma and in public politics locating and defining what has happened. In both perspectives, the collection evaluates the impact achieved by naming the victim/s and thus the right of the victim/s to suffer from its aftermath or by refusing to recognise the traumatic event and thus the right of the victim/s to respond to it. A range of paradigms and techniques invite readers to consider anew the specificities of context and relationship while negotiating post-traumatic survival. By delineating how one makes sense of traumatic events, this volume will enable readers to draw links between practices grounded in diverse disciplines encompassing creative arts, textual analysis, public and collective communication, psychology and psychotherapy, memory and memorial.

Critical Resilience And Thriving In Response To Systemic Oppression written by Melissa L. Morgan and has been published by Taylor & Francis this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2023-03-31 with Psychology categories.

This book offers new insight into how individuals utilize resilience in the face of structural and social injustice. By drawing on qualitative research methods to foreground the voices of Holocaust survivors and Latinx immigrants to the United States, Critical Resilience and Thriving in Response to Systematic Oppression illustrates the role of cultural values, spirituality, and perseverance in the face of severe institutionalized oppression. Using this to extend current understandings of resilience, the text posits critical resilience as a response to embedded social inequalities and goes on to offer a nuanced reconceptualization of overcoming such hardship, not only as overcoming adversity but as recognizing strengths despite ongoing injustice. It synthesizes feminist and critical theories to elaborate on the framework of critical resilience and thriving. Highlighting the importance of qualitative research on the strengths and resources of oppressed groups, this volume will be of interest to students, scholars, and researchers with an interest in trauma studies, qualitative methods, and personal development, as well as in mental health research.
