The book of Ezekiel has long astonished its readership. In the history of exegesis, the book's (supposed) author has often been regarded as mad or ill, or as suffering from "Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder" according to a recent diagnosis. The present study radicalizes this approach by investigating the book of Ezekiel as trauma literature. On the basis of a multi-faceted trauma hermeneutics the peculiarities as well as the inconsistencies of the book are shown to be material aspects of a fictionalised trauma process in the context of Israel's experiences of siege warfare and mass deportation in the early 6th century bce. The analysis demonstrates that the potential for violence inherent in the catastrophe has created not only an intense discourse about blame and punishment but also a theologically disturbing picture of a traumatized deity; in both cases the purpose is to assure the survival of Yhwh and the people. Das Ezechielbuch hat seine Leserschaft seit jeher verwundert und verwirrt. Den vermeintlichen Autor des Buches hat man im Laufe der Auslegungsgeschichte immer wieder pathologisiert – zuletzt ist Ezechiel mehrfach die Diagnose „Posttraumatische Belastungsstörung“ attestiert worden. Die vorliegende Studie nimmt diesen Krankheitsansatz auf und radikalisiert ihn, indem sie das Ezechielbuch konsequent als fiktionale Trauma-Literatur analysiert. Vor dem Hintergrund einer mehrdimensionalen Trauma-Hermeneutik erschließt sie die Ezechielprophetie neu als literarisch-theologische Auseinandersetzung mit den traumatisierenden Kriegsereignissen, die Juda und Jerusalem zu Beginn des 6. Jh.s v.u.Z. getroffen haben. Es zeigt sich, dass die ungeheure Gewaltfülle der Exilskatastrophe nicht nur einen massiven Schuld-Strafe-Diskurs, sondern auch das theologisch erschütternde Bild einer traumatisierten Gottheit aus sich herausgesetzt hat – beides mit dem Ziel, das Überleben JHWHs und des Volkes zu sichern.

Examensarbeit aus dem Jahr 2001 im Fachbereich Französische Philologie - Literatur, Note: 1,3, Heinrich-Heine-Universität Düsseldorf (Romanisches Seminar), Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: [...] Diese Arbeit knüpft im wesentlichen an die genannten psychoanalytischen und autobiographischen Studien zu Georges Perec an und stellt dar, wie im Werk Perecs das durch den Verlust der Eltern erlebte Trauma zum Ausdruck kommt und welche Auswirkungen es auf das Gedächtnis sowie Perecs autobiographisches Schreiben hat. Es sollen zudem neuere Forschungsergebnisse zu Trauma, Gedächtnis und Identität berücksichtigt werden, die als wichtige Hilfsmittel für die nachfolgenden Analysen dienen. Der Schwerpunkt liegt jedoch auf der literaturwissenschaftlichen Untersuchung der Texte von Georges Perec. Da in dieser Arbeit nicht das gesamte Werk Perecs analysiert werden kann, müssen wir uns auf eine Auswahl von Texten beschränken. Es handelt sich hierbei vorwiegend um seine zwischen 1968 und 1978 veröffentlichten Werke La Disparition (1969), Espèces d’espaces (1974), W ou le souvenir d’enfance (1975), Je me souviens (1978) und La Vie mode d’emploi (1978). Wenn vor allem zwischen 1968 und 1978 erschienene Texte berücksichtigt werden, so liegt dies nicht nur an der symbolischen Bedeutung des Jahres 1968, das auch als Wendepunkt für den Umgang mit der nationalsozialistischen Vergangenheit in der Gesellschaft gilt. 1969 erscheint nämlich auch Perecs erster Roman nach seinem Eintritt in die Gruppe OuLiPo im Jahre 1967, welche Perecs Schreiben in höchstem Maße beeinflußt hat. Des weiteren wurde der Zeitraum von 1968 bis 1978 gewählt, weil die meisten der oben genannten Texte (bis auf La Disparition) unter dem Einfluß einer von 1971 bis 1975 dauernden Psychoanalyse Perecs mit J.-B. Pontalis geschrieben wurden. Ziel dieser Arbeit ist es, anhand der genannten Auswahl von Texten die literarische Verarbeitung des Traumas und die Gedächtnisthematik bei Perec zu untersuchen. Vor der Analyse der Werke Perecs muß zunächst geklärt werden, was wir unter Trauma verstehen und weshalb das Trauma für Georges Perec und sein Werk eine zentrale Rolle spielt. Der erste Teil der Arbeit widmet sich daher Perecs Biographie, die bei den anschließenden Untersuchungen berücksichtigt werden muß. Zu Beginn des zweiten Teiles wird dann der Begriff Trauma definiert und auf die Charakteristika der durch den Holocaust ausgelösten individuellen und kollektiven Traumata eingegangen. [...]

In German Cinema – Terror and Trauma Since 1945, Thomas Elsaesser reevaluates the meaning of the Holocaust for postwar German films and culture, while offering a reconsideration of trauma theory today. Elsaesser argues that Germany's attempts at "mastering the past" can be seen as both a failure and an achievement, making it appropriate to speak of an ongoing 'guilt management' that includes not only Germany, but Europe as a whole. In a series of case studies, which consider the work of Konrad Wolf, Alexander Kluge, Rainer Werner Fassbinder, Herbert Achterbusch and Harun Farocki, as well as films made in the new century, Elsaesser tracks the different ways the Holocaust is present in German cinema from the 1950s onwards, even when it is absent, or referenced in oblique and hyperbolic ways. Its most emphatically "absent presence" might turn out to be the compulsive afterlife of the Red Army Faction, whose acts of terror in the 1970s were a response to—as well as a reminder of—Nazism’s hold on the national imaginary. Since the end of the Cold War and 9/11, the terms of the debate around terror and trauma have shifted also in Germany, where generational memory now distributes the roles of historical agency and accountability differently. Against the background of universalized victimhood, a cinema of commemoration has, if anything, confirmed the violence that the past continues to exert on the present, in the form of missed encounters, retroactive incidents, unintended slippages and uncanny parallels, which Elsaesser—reviving the full meaning of Freud’s Fehlleistung—calls the parapractic performativity of cultural memory.
