Each of the eleven essays is at once a fresh contribution to the study of Gogol and an example of one major school of criticism cultivated in contemporary Russia.

Gregory Rabassa S Latin American Literature written by María Constanza Guzmán and has been published by Bucknell University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2011-03-14 with Literary Criticism categories.

This book is a critical study of the work of Gregory Rabassa, translator of such canonical novels as Gabriel Garcìa Márquez's Cien años de soledad, José Lezama Lima's Paradiso, and Julio Cortàzar's Rayuela. During the past five decades, Rabassa has translated over fifty Latin American novels and to this day he is one of the most prominent English translators of literature from Spanish and Portuguese. Rabassa's role was pivotal in the internationalization of several Latin American writers; it led to the formation of a canon and, significantly, to the most prevalent image of Latin American literature in the world. Even though Rabassa's legacy has been widely recognized, the extent of his work's influence and the complexity of the sociocultural circumstances surrounding his practice have remained largely unexamined. In Gregory Rabassa's Latin American Literature: A Translator's Visible Legacy, María Constanza Guzmán examines the translator's conceptions about language, contextualizes his work in terms of the structures and conditions that have surrounded his practice, and investigates the role his translations have played in constructing collective narratives of Latin American literature in the global imaginary. By revisiting and historicizing the translator's practice, this book reveals the scale of Rabassa's legacy. The translator emerges as an active subject in the inter-American literary exchange, an agent bound to history and to the forces involved in the production of culture.

"We’re mad as heck and we’re not going to take it anymore!" This is the rallying cry heard all over America! Yes, these are the words of protest voiced by irate Americans as they join or form unorganized militias from Florida to Oregon and California to Maine. It’s time to get angry! It’s time to get involved in the battle for America’s survival. Yes it’s time—unless, that is, you’d rather live and die as a slave under an iron-fisted New World Order dictatorship! A tyranny policed by the rabidly anti-American UN! The choice is yours!

On The Rim Of Empire written by Philip Peter Russo and has been published by iUniverse this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2002-12 with Fiction categories.

Though taking place against the background of the colorful and turbulent years of the American Revolution, this is primarily a tale of espionage and betrayal. Within the fabric of the earth-shaking events of those times, the author has interwoven a set of characters who could have credibly existed, but who are, of course, pure fiction. What is not fiction was George Washington's shrewd, efficient, and amazingly effective use of his secret service during the long struggle for American independence. Even so, events were to prove that at times mere chance weighed in at the right time and place to aid in the birth of this new and very different nation; one that a future great president would call "the last best hope of mankind".

Written in the late sixteenth century, at the pinnacle of the English Renaissance, the rich and ingenious works of Thomas Nashe uniquely reveal the ambivant nature of the Elizabethan era. Mingling the devout and the bawdy, scholarship and slang, they express throughout an irrepressible, inexhaustible wit and an astonishing command of language. This collection of Nashe's finest works includes The Unfortunate Traveller, the sharp and grotesque tale of Jack Wilton, an Englishman travelling through Europe; Pierce Penniless, a biting satire on the society of his age; Terrors of the Night; Lenten Stuff; the sensual poem The Choice of Valentines; and extracts from Christ's Tears over Jerusalem and other works. Wide-ranging in subject, all capture the unique voice and fantastic ingenuity of one of the most entertaining Elizabethan writers - a man regarded by his contemporaries as the 'English Juvenal'.

A treacherous journey, a band of desperate rogues, a shocking, hidden truth. When Nicholas Elyot and his friends set out to spend the Christmas season in the country, they are prepared for a hard journey in winter weather. They are also wary of violence on the road, for these are troubled times after the Great Pestilence, when bands of dispossessed and desolate men roam the countryside of England. It is not surprising, therefore, when troubadours hired to provide entertainment at Leighton Manor are attacked in Wychwood. Yet why should this insignificant group draw the attention of outlaws... what could they be searching for? Is one of the troubadours not quite what he seems? A thrilling addition to the pulse-pounding medieval mystery series, perfect for fans of C. J. Sansom, Edward Marston and Paul Doherty.
