Mark introduces to the world the first written gospel. Mark is the first. Matthew, Luke and John come later. They were likely aware of Mark's gospel and drew from it, each with their own emphasis. It is a short gospel, with fewer than 12,000 words. It could almost be read in one sitting. Mark emphasizes more the humanity than the divinity of Christ. Mark tells about Jesus the man.Treasures from Mark seeks to mine for treasures buried within the sixteen chapters of Mark's gospel which speak to your needs and your desire to be faithful to God. Treasures from Mark lifts up gems from each chapter which you can use to inspire you, center your spirituality, strengthen your faith, challenge your thinking, and lead you to some of the highest goals to which a human can aspire. It is well-suited as a daily devotional guide.

"Mark Jones examines the making of a new child’s world in Japan between 1890 and 1930 and focuses on the institutions, groups, and individuals that reshaped both the idea of childhood and the daily life of children. Family reformers, scientific child experts, magazine editors, well-educated mothers, and other prewar urban elites constructed a model of childhood—having one’s own room, devoting time to homework, reading children’s literature, playing with toys—that ultimately became the norm for young Japanese in subsequent decades. This book also places the story of modern childhood within a broader social context—the emergence of a middle class in early twentieth century Japan. The ideal of making the child into a “superior student” (yutosei) appealed to the family seeking upward mobility and to the nation-state that needed disciplined, educated workers able to further Japan’s capitalist and imperialist growth. This view of the middle class as a child-centered, educationally obsessed, socially aspiring stratum survived World War II and prospered into the years beyond."

Treasure in Heaven is a prayer journal designed to help kick start your prayer life. It's perfect for those who have never prayed before and those who have fallen out of the habit of daily prayer. It's 40 days long and the perfect start for a daily prayer life. God is our treasure, and yet few people embark on the adventure of seeking God. I believe that it is because we do not know where to start. Treasure in Heaven is here to do just that: give you the launch point to a deeper relationship with God. Through this simple 40-day, 10 minutes a day prayer and journal guide, my hope is that you will acquire the discipline of daily prayer, gain a deeper understanding of who God is, and invite Jesus to be at the centre of your life. Are you ready? "For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also." -Matthew 6:21. This newly designed version includes the basic Gospel Message with illustrations and related bible verses, followed by a prayer of surrender. This makes it a simple way to share Jesus with others (a tool to help you evangelize). Smaller pocket-sized versions of Treasure in Heaven are available by contacting the Companions of the Cross main office. Visit us at www.companionscross.org (Fr. Mark Goring, CC is a priest of the Companions of the Cross)

Essays represent a range of contemporary redaction-critical studies on the Gospel of Matthew. They deal with the Gospel as a whole and specific passages, and major issues that have occupied redaction critics for the past several decades, such as the community of Matthew and the relationship of that community to the law and the synagogue. Other topics include the literary and theological function of the genealogy in Matthew's Gospel, and its wisdom passages. No index. Annotation c. by Book News, Inc., Portland, Or.

What is the role of the museum in contemporary society? Using the Oakland Museum of California as a case study, artist Mark Dion examines how museum practices have shifted over time, what these changes mean for objects in museum collections, and what we can learn about our culture from what's included and what's abandoned. Enclosed in a clamshell case and featuring fourteen specimen cards, this deluxe volume brings the reader into Dion's process and reveals how the order of images can change one's perception of objects. Contributions from celebrated writers, including Lawrence Weschler and D. Graham Burnett, articulate Dion's unique power of examination.
