Distributed by the University of Nebraska Press for Caxton Press The seven years from 1853 to 1859 are probably more important to the Pacific Northwest than any period of its recorded history. It was in the 1850s that officials began carving the Oregon Territory into the states. It was the period when most Native American tribes signed treaties that were supposed to protect their future. It was also when the natives of the region learned that no matter what the treaties promised, they would have little control over their destiny. So they fought a hopeless battle to preserve their way of life. Both settlers and Natives Americans believed they were God’s chosen people. With hindsight, we can see with clarity the injustices done. But neither side can claim purity of action. Atrocities were committed by both. For almost every major tribe of the Northwest, the 1850s marked the end of their way of life. This is the story of how cultures clashed. This is the story of one corner of our country, and how its history shapes its course today.

Towards World Constitutionalism written by Ronald St. John Macdonald and has been published by BRILL this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2005-11-01 with Law categories.

The world in which we find ourselves today is no longer governable entirely by resort to the classical system of international law. Even more seriously, it would seem that the purposes and principles of the United Nations Charter are no longer being served sufficiently in light of new concerns. The text adopted in 1945 does not convey the image of a world tormented by terrorists. Nor does it reflect the most pressing commitments of our time: to democratic governance, to environmental responsibility, and to a freer and more equitable system of world trade. Increasingly, the international law community acknowledges the need to set new priorities in the development of international law. To that end it seems timely to reconsider the case for strengthening the constitutional framework of norms and institutions that seemed to offer the promise of fulfillment in the second half of the 20th century. The post-Cold War euphoria of the 1990s has virtually evaporated under the stress of new concerns at a time when states comprising the UN system are no longer capable of addressing these challenges. Towards World Constitutionalism argues the case for a more ‘constitutionalized’ system of international law and diplomacy. It is published at a time that the call for reform of the United Nations has become more insistent than at any time in its 60-year history. Even those most faithful to the purposes and principles enunciated in the Charter have had to admit to concerns about the management of certain sectors of the organization; and most concede the unrepresentative character of the powerful Security Council granted legal supremacy as the enforcer of international peace and security. Many go further and complain of unconscionable political bias in the General Assembly and in certain, over politicized, agencies. This collection of essays, by a selection of distinguished scholars representing various traditions of international law, constitutes a major contribution to this debate. It is an important resource for scholars and practitioners, and for all those concerned with the future of international law, and the world community.

The purpose of this book is to describe how Euro-Americans achieved their “Manifest Destiny” by any means necessary at the expense of Native Americans and those of indigenous ancestry. These invaders primarily used treachery and deceit, herein. The instrument utilized was the numerous treaties, all of which were broken with the Native Americans. In addition, they used their superior guns, artillery and munitions, as well as spread diseases (smallpox), encouraged alcoholism, hypocritical assimilation, racial quotas to minimize identity, deracinated native cultures and languages, among other genocidal means to eliminate the indigent population. The book reveals the dual meaning of Thanksgiving and Columbus Day holidays. Neither historic event is as portrayed. Both led to the mass extermination of the native population that greeted them. Their lands were stolen. The book describes how this tragic legacy was established in the Europeans' quest for a “Manifest Destiny” or “Kingdom of Heaven” where they reign absolutely. In effect, Christianity, humanity and nature were violated. History became a public relations vehicle for the invaders to “whitewash” the true accounts of events that have led to the prosperity they enjoy and monopolize.A vivid, truthful and inclusive account of the unofficial and official process of removing Native Americans from their homelands is described. The “Manifest Destiny” followed by European settlers is detailed. Along with removing the native population from the land is a continuous effort to depopulate these “dark-skinned” people. Leaders in this effort, like Andrew Jackson, are examined. The motives behind his efforts to take Indian lands and lives are clarified. The linkage between the “American Dream” of wealth and prosperity resulting from using whatever means to achieve their “Manifest Destiny” is weighed against the harm inflicted on Native Americans and the environment. The “divide and conquer” strategy to further alienate Native Americans from the larger demographic of blacks, whites and Hispanics with indigenous heritage by the government is perused. The crux of the inquiry is the “blood-quorum” used to identify Indians from non-Indians. The book highlights efforts to include those of indigenous ancestry in the circle of humanity and the true majority with Native Americans. Self-improvement and healing throughout all in the circle are offered. The sins of gambling, vice, substance abuse, violence and alcoholism is weeded out as a product of the alienation fostered by the hegemonic strategy of “divide and conquer” by race, ethnicity, class, culture, etc. Holidays like Columbus Day and Thanksgiving that celebrate this strategy should be weighed in light of the truth as revealed.

Treaty Shirts written by Gerald Vizenor and has been published by Wesleyan University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016-05-10 with Fiction categories.

Gerald Vizenor creates masterful, truthful, surreal, and satirical fiction similar to the speculative fiction of Margaret Atwood and Neil Gaiman. In this imagined future, seven natives are exiled from federal sectors that have replaced federal reservations; they pursue the liberty of an egalitarian government on an island in Lake of the Woods. These seven narrators, known only by native nicknames, are related to characters in Vizenor’s other novels and stories. Vizenor was the principal writer of the Constitution of the White Earth Nation, and this novel is a rich and critical commentary on the abrogation of the treaty that established the White Earth Reservation in 1867, and a vivid visualization of the futuristic continuation of the Constitution of the White Earth Nation, in 2034.

This is Part 10 of the 2nd edition of Tafsir Ibn Kathir. The first edition of this book contained many formatting and typing errors. In this new edition, we have corrected all the errors found in the first edition. We have also re-arranged the structure and size of the books. We have devided this tafsir into thirty parts to correspond with the thiry parts of The Glorious Qur'an, and have published each part as a self-contained book. Our aim is to gather in one place, for the English-speaking public, all relevant information needed to make the Qur'an more understandable and easier to study. This book tries to do this by providing the following: 1. The Arabic Text for those who are able to read Arabic 2. Transliteration of the Arabic text for those who are unable to read the Arabic script. This will give them a sample of the sound of the Qur'an, which they could not otherwise comprehend from reading the English meaning. 3. The meaning of the qur'an (translated by Dr. Muhammad Taqi-ud-Din Al-Hilali, Ph.D. and Dr. Muhammad Muhsin Khan) 4. Background introductions by two famous Islamic scholars, Maududi and Ibn Kathir 5. Explanation (abridged Tafsir) by Ibn Kathir (translated by Safi-ur-Rahman al-Mubarakpuri) We hope that by doing this an ordinary English-speaker will be able to pick up a copy of this book and study and comprehend The Glorious Qur'an in a way that is acceptable to the understanding of the Rightly-guided Muslim Ummah (Community). quran english audio, online quran learning, translate to arabic, learn quran online, the holy quran, quran with english translation, quran teaching, quran in english and arabic, quran arabic text, quran arabic english, quran translation in english audio, koran karim, basics of islamquran teacher, translation of quran in english, translate english to arab, quran academy, holy quran arabictafseer ibn kathir, surah of quran, quran english arabic, arabic english
