Trees Beyond the Wood was written for a conference organised to celebrate twenty years of work since the first major conference on the theme of ancient trees and woodlands held in Sheffield, UK. It was held almost ten years after the landmark 2003 Working and Walking in the Footsteps of Ghosts event which started to raise issues and challenge assumptions about what is 'ancient' or 'natural' and what is meant by the terms 'wood' or 'woodland'. Since then on-going work in a range of disciplines across ecology, biology, landscape history, archaeology, forestry and nature conservation has continued the process of research and evaluation across the subject area. The collection of papers by contributors from across Europe reflects this broad range of interests and disciplines.

This is the story of Mr Vane, an orphan and heir to a large house - in which he has a vision that leads him through an old mirror into another world. In the trips he makes to this other world, he explores the mystery of evil. Mr. Vane owns a library that seems to be haunted by the former librarian, who looks much like a raven. After finally encountering the mysterious Mr. Raven, Vane learns that Raven had known his father; indeed, Vane's father had visited the strange parallel universe from which Raven comes and goes. Vane follows Raven into the world through the mirror. Lilith, written by the father of fantasy literature, George MacDonald, is considered among the darkest of MacDonald's works, and among the most profound. George MacDonald is one of the most severely underrated authors of all time. A contemporary to Lewis Carroll and major influence on C.S. Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkien, this man's imagination apparently knew no bounds and that is incredibly apparent in his masterpiece, Lilith.

Lilith A Romance written by George MacDonald and has been published by Lulu.com this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019-08-06 with Education categories.

MacDonald was one of the first authors to establish fantasy as a literary genre. C.S. Lewis claimed that MacDonald was a mythopoetic genius and W.H. Auden hailed Lilith, published toward the end of MacDonald's career in 1895, as "equal if not superior to the best of Poe." The novel is the story of Mr. Vane, who inherits a large old house with a mysterious library. Through accident or fate, he discovers a mirror that has the ability to transport him to an alternate universe. MacDonald then sends the reader on a layered quest that can be interpreted as an allegory of both individual and social redemption.
